Christian Colon played the role of the unlikely hero for the Royals in an unbelievable come-from-behind 7-2 victory in Game 5 of the World Series on Sunday, delivering a pinch-hit RBI single in the 12th inning.
It was the first at-bat of the postseason for the 26-year-old infielder, and he quickly fell behind 0-2 against Addison Reed before battling back and lining the go-ahead single into left field, plating pinch-runner Jarrod Dyson who had swiped second base and advanced on a ground ball. Royals optioned INF Christian Colon to Triple-A Omaha.

Colon hasn't been playing much of late and has picked up just one hit in 16 plate appearances since the beginning of June. Dusty Coleman has replaced him on the roster.

Christian Colon went 2-for-4 with two RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Twins.

Colon hit an RBI double in the sixth inning -- consequently stealing third base for his first steal of the year -- before driving in another run with a groundout in the eighth. A couple of two-hit games have raised Colon's average to .235, but he's not much of an offensive option for the Royals at this point.

Christian Colon went 2-for-2 with a two-run double and a run scored as the Royals bested the White Sox 6-4 Sunday.

Colon was brought in as a replacement mid-game, and he came through with a big two-run double in the sixth inning to tie the score. He later scored the game-winning run. The Royals will host the Athletics in the American League Wild Card game Wednesday.

Christian Colon (finger) played six innings and had two hits in an instructional league game Thursday.

Colon has a broken bone in the tip of his right middle finger but isn't giving up hope of making it back this season. It's possible if he can convince the Royals he's healthy that they'll carry him on their postseason roster.

Royals placed INF Christian Colon on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to September 7, with a fractured right middle finger.

Colon had been holding out hope that he could play through the injury, but the Royals obviously decided against it. He hit .302/.348/.442 over 20 games across a few stints with the big club this season.

Christian Colon will test out his broken right middle finger with some throwing drills on Thursday.

Colon suffered the injury just a week ago, but the swelling has gone down and he's hoping to play through it. He doesn't expected hitting to be an issue, but throwing could. Even if he's cleared to play, don't expect Colon to have much of a role down the stretch.

Christian Colon left Tuesday's game versus the Rangers with a broken middle finger.

Colon suffered the injury while trying to field a ground ball. A Royals official would say only that he'll be out "a while," but the probability would seem to be high that his season is over.

Royals recalled INF Christian Colon from Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Colon was sent out last week following the acquisition of Jayson Nix, but he's back now that rosters have expanded. The 25-year-old is hitting .302 (13-for-43) over 19 games with the Royals this season and provides some infield versatility.

Royals optioned INF Christian Colon to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Colon was sent back out to make room on the active roster for Jayson Nix who was claimed off waivers from the Pirates. He's expected to rejoin the Royals at some point in early September.

Christian Colon went 3-for-4 with a double and a steal Thursday in the Royals' 7-3 victory over the A's.

Of course, even Christian Colon is contributing as the Royals take three out of four from baseball's best team. Colon went eight straight days without playing from Aug. 4-11, so, dating back to Aug. 2, his last five appearances have all come against Oakland, and he's gone 6-for-14 in those five games. The steal was his first as a major leaguer. His start today came at second base, but the Royals will primarily use him at third base against left-handers going forward.

Royals recalled INF Christian Colon from Triple-A Omaha.

Colon was up for a cup of coffee earlier this month, picking up four hits in 12 at-bats. He can play all over the infield and should see some starts at third base against left-handed pitching.

Royals prospect INF Christian Colon went 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs on Thursday for Triple-A Omaha.

He also tallied three RBI and scored two runs. The game was Colon's second since returning from a brief stint in the major leagues, where he batted .333 with three extra-base hits in six games. On the season, the 25-year-old has batted .297/.358/.403 with 20 extra-base hits (six home runs), 50 runs scored and 14 stolen bases in 76 games at Triple-A. He's likely to return to the major leagues at some point during the second half of the season.
