Manny Machado underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a partially-torn ligament in his right knee.

Doctors said nothing unusual was found and that the procedure went according to plan. Machado is hoping to be ready for the start of spring training next year, though that's not necessarily guaranteed to happen. This is the second season in a row he's been shut down early by a major knee injury.
Aug 27 - 4:41 PM

Manny Machado is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery on his right knee on Wednesday.

The procedure is to repair a partially torn ligament. He's hoping to be ready for spring training, but it's not a given since his timetable is expected to be similar to last year's ACL repair.
Aug 24 - 12:40 PM

Manny Machado said he opted for surgery on his right knee because the injury wasn't getting any better.

Machado said he has abnormal knees, which would be a contributing factor to him injuring the same ligament in different knees in back-to-back years. He hopes to have the surgery to repair a partially torn ligament next week and be ready for spring training. It's no given that he'll be ready then, but this year's tear isn't as bad as the one in his other knee that caused him to miss the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014.

A source tells Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports that Manny Machado is expected to have season-ending knee surgery within a week.

Machado has been on the disabled list since August 12 with a sprained ligament in his right knee, and Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Friday that the third baseman had no timetable for resuming baseball activities. It's a huge loss for the first-place Orioles, who will now have to rely more heavily on Chris Davis and others to fill the position. Machado's season got off to a late start after left knee surgery last season, playing in just 82 games this year.
Aug 22 - 6:10 PM

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Friday that there's no timetable for when Manny Machado (knee) will resume baseball activities.

That means he's obviously not going to be ready for activation when first eligible on August 27, and in all likelihood it sounds like it will be a while before he returns. Showalter added that he should know more about Machado's status on Saturday. The star third baseman has been out since mid-August with a sprained right knee.
Aug 22 - 12:59 PM

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said that he hopes Manny Machado (knee) will be ready to return when first eligible on August 27 or shortly after.

Machado has a sprained right knee, but overall the O's have to feel pretty lucky that the injury wasn't more serious. "We’ve got a pretty good feel," Showalter said. "We’ve got our arms around it. Hopefully, it will manage itself during [the DL] period, and he will be back there or close to it." Showalter said Machado would have to begin baseball activities by around August 24 in order to return when first eligible.
Aug 15 - 8:59 AM

Orioles placed 3B Manny Machado on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 12, with a sprained ligament in his right knee.

The O's have yet to give an update on how much time Machado will miss, but obviously he'll be out for at least the next couple weeks. The club is expected to eventually provide more clarity on his timetable later Wednesday. Cord Phelps has been promoted to take Machado's spot on the roster.
Aug 13 - 3:10 PM

Manny Machado has been diagnosed with a sprained ligament in his right knee.

The Orioles are expected to provide a more detailed update on his condition Wednesday, at which point we should have a better idea about a potential timetable. It's not the worst news Machado could receive, and for now the club is not even sure he'll need a stint on the disabled list. That said, any kind of ligament damage in his knee certainly raises a red flag. The picture should be clearer Wednesday.
Aug 12 - 6:22 PM

An X-ray on Manny Machado's right knee didn't reveal any ligament damage.

It doesn't mean much, as an MRI (which he'll undergo Tuesday) is the real test. Machado hurt the knee Monday when his knee buckled on a swing. He was using crutches in the clubhouse after the game and could wind up going on the DL even if the MRI doesn't reveal anything serious.
Aug 11 - 11:26 PM

Manny Machado has been diagnosed with a right knee sprain.

The diagnosis doesn't necessarily mean a lot right now, as he will undergo further testing Tuesday -- which will include an MRI -- and it's possible something worse will be found. Machado injured his knee when it buckled on him during a swing Monday. The Orioles and Machado's fantasy owners will be crossing their fingers in hopes of getting good news Tuesday.
Aug 11 - 9:16 PM

Manny Machado left Monday's game versus the Yankees with a right knee injury.

It was an odd looking injury, as Machado's knee seemed to buckle as he fouled off a pitch, causing him to immediately fall to the ground in pain. He was able to limp off but had to be assisted. It was Machado's left knee that was operated on last season, but this is nevertheless a troubling development. The Orioles will provide an update on his status shortly.
Aug 11 - 8:22 PM

Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in Friday's blowout win over the Cardinals.

It was his 12th home run of the season and his fifth since returning from his five-game suspension in early July. The 22-year-old got off to a very slow start this season, but he's hitting .315 over his last 42 games.
Aug 8 - 10:53 PM

Manny Machado went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Friday, leading the Orioles to a 2-1 victory over the Mariners in the opener of a three-game weekend series in Baltimore.

Machado plated Delmon Young with an RBI single off Roenis Elias to get the O's on the board in the third inning. He also scored the game-winning run on a J.J. Hardy single in the sixth inning. He's now hitting .269/.313/.427 with 11 homers and 28 RBI in 286 at-bats on the year.
Aug 1 - 10:02 PM

Manny Machado sent the Orioles home winners, belting a walk-off solo home run to left field in the 12th inning on Tuesday against the Angels.

Machado went into the at-bat 1-for-5 with an RBI double, and wasted no time ending the ballgame as he was the first batter reliever Cory Rasmus faced in the 12th. The third baseman has a respectable .268/.314/.430 slash line with 11 home runs and 27 RBI this season.
