Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Sunday's win over the Mariners.
Machado had an RBI single in the eighth inning to give the O's the lead and drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning. He's now got 25 RBI in 68 games to go with a .267/.314/.417 line. Machado has played two straight games since being sidelined due to lower back pain, and owners should start him with confidence in the days ahead. Jul 27 - 8:46 PM

Date:

Manny Machado (back) has returned to the Orioles starting lineup on Saturday.

He's manning his regular position defensively and hitting seventh for the Orioles against Chris Young and the Mariners. He missed the previous four games due to pain in his lower back.

Manny Machado (back) remains out of the Orioles starting lineup for the fourth consecutive game on Friday.

The annoying pain in his lower back continues to linger, and it remains unclear when exactly he will be able to rejoin the O's lineup. Ryan Flaherty will get the start at the hot corner in his absence.
Jul 25 - 7:11 PM

Manny Machado (back) is hoping to return to action sometime over the weekend.

Machado is missing a third straight contest Thursday with what he calls annoying pain" in his lower back, but he's expected to take batting practice and field grounders prior to the game. Ryan Flaherty is getting a third straight start at third base Thursday.
Jul 24 - 7:32 PM

Manny Machado (back) remained out of the Orioles' lineup Thursday.

It's the third straight contest he's missed with tightness in his lower back. Machado received an anti-inflammatory injection on Tuesday, so hopefully the shot just needed a couple days to take effect. The third baseman remains day-to-day for the time being.
Jul 24 - 6:51 PM

Manny Machado (back) is not in the Orioles' lineup on Wednesday.

Machado received an anti-inflammatory injection for his back after Tuesday's game, so it's no surprise that he's getting the day off Wednesday. He's still considered day-to-day for now, but if he misses too many more games it might make sense for the Orioles to shut him down for a few weeks. Ryan Flaherty started at third base in his absence.
Jul 23 - 6:30 PM

Manny Machado (back) received an anti-inflammatory injection after Tuesday's game.

Machado was a late scratch Tuesday after his lower back tightened up on him. He's never had back issues before and will be re-evaluated Wednesday to see how much progress he's made. Consider the third baseman day-to-day.
Jul 23 - 1:52 AM

Manny Machado was scratched from Tuesday's lineup with lower back tightness.

It's probably safe to call him day-to-day, but the Orioles don't want to take any chances with their stud young third baseman. Machado was replaced at third base by Ryan Flaherty.
Jul 22 - 10:19 PM

Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer Friday against the A's.

It's nice to see the All-Star break didn't half Machado's homer binge; he now has six in 13 games after hitting a total of four in his first 50.
Jul 19 - 12:49 AM

Manny Machado had three hits in four at-bats, including a solo home run, in Wednesday's defeat at the hands of the Nationals.

The Orioles didn't have a whole lot going for them offensively against Doug Fister. Machado's fourth-inning solo homer brought the Orioles back to 4-2, but that was the extent of their offense. The 21-year-old third baseman has homered in five out of his last eight games and is on a six-game hitting streak. Machado owns a .269/.315/.423 slash line with nine home runs and 20 RBI.
Jul 9 - 10:30 PM

Manny Machado went 5-for-6 with his eighth homer and ninth double Monday as the Orioles beat the Nationals 8-2 in 11 innings.

The Orioles went homerless for 10 innings before Chris Davis, J.J. Hardy and Machado all went deep in the six-run 11th. It was Machado's first career five-hit game. He's 9-for-17 in three games since returning from a five-game suspension, and he has four homers in his last seven games overall.
Jul 7 - 11:38 PM

MLB has upheld Manny Machado's five-game suspension and he will begin serving it on Monday night.

Machado was issued the five-game punishment for intentionally throwing his bat in the direction of A's third baseman Alberto Callaspo back on June 8. He appealed it this past Friday but with no luck. The 21-year-old will be out until Saturday's game at Fenway Park.
Jun 30 - 11:48 AM

Manny Machado went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's loss to the Rays.

Machado has now homered on back-to-back days, and in three out of his last four games. The third baseman has started to heat up after a sluggish start to the season following his debut on May 1. Machado is slashing .239/.291/.371 with seven home runs and 17 RBI in 232 plate appearances.
Jun 29 - 5:34 PM

Manny Machado singled and launched a solo homer in Friday's loss to the Rays.

Machado took Brad Boxberger way out to left field in the seventh inning for his fifth longball of the season. It cut the Rays' lead to 5-2, but that's as close as the Orioles got. Machado has been moved down in the lineup until his bat heats up, and it's started to with eight hits over his last five games.
Jun 27 - 4:35 PM

Manny Machado will have his five-game suspension appeal heard Wednesday in Baltimore.

And a ruling should be made by Friday. Machado was handed the five-game punishment and fined an undisclosed amount on June 10 after throwing his bat in the direction of A's third baseman Josh Donaldson on June 8.
