Manny Machado (knee) wants to get extra at-bats this spring.
Machado underwent surgery last August to repair a partially-torn ligament in his right knee, but he hasn't had any setbacks in his rehab. Manny Machado (knee) expects to be ready for spring training.

Machado underwent surgery last August to repair a partially-torn ligament in his right knee, but hasn't encountered any setbacks in his rehab and worked out at the Orioles' minicamp on Tuesday. The only thing he hasn't done is fielding grounders side-to-side, but that should happen soon enough. He still has one check-up scheduled with Dr. Neal ElAttrache prior to spring training, but it appears that he is on track for the start of the 2015 season.

Manny Machado will attend Baltimore's Jan. 14 minicamp so that the club can examine his knee.

Machado's 2014 season ended prematurely when he underwent surgery in late August to repair a partially-torn ligament in his right knee. Both the organization and the 22-year-old are optimistic about Machado's odds of being ready for spring training, but that's no sure thing.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Manny Machado (knee) is taking ground balls in Sarasota, Florida, in his rehab process.

Machado had season-ending surgery to repair a partially-torn ligament in his right knee in August, and it's a nice sign that he's already back to doing some baseball activities. Showalter also said Machado is "moving around." Machado is hoping to be ready to roll come spring training.

Orioles activated 3B Manny Machado from the 60-day disabled list.

Machado underwent season-ending surgery in late August to repair a partially-torn ligament in his right knee. The 22-year-old hopes to be ready for spring training, though that's obviously no guarantee.

Manny Machado (knee) could begin jogging in a pool next week at the team's complex in Sarasota, Florida.

Machado underwent season-ending surgery in late August to repair a partially-torn ligament in his right knee, but he already has full range of motion. His goal is to be ready for spring training, but he still has plenty of hurdles to cross.

Orioles transferred 3B Manny Machado from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot for Quintin Berry on the 40-man roster. Machado underwent season-ending surgery last week to repair a partially-torn ligament in his right knee.

Manny Machado underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a partially-torn ligament in his right knee.

Doctors said nothing unusual was found and that the procedure went according to plan. Machado is hoping to be ready for the start of spring training next year, though that's not necessarily guaranteed to happen. This is the second season in a row he's been shut down early by a major knee injury.

Manny Machado is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery on his right knee on Wednesday.

The procedure is to repair a partially torn ligament. He's hoping to be ready for spring training, but it's not a given since his timetable is expected to be similar to last year's ACL repair.

Manny Machado said he opted for surgery on his right knee because the injury wasn't getting any better.

Machado said he has abnormal knees, which would be a contributing factor to him injuring the same ligament in different knees in back-to-back years. He hopes to have the surgery to repair a partially torn ligament next week and be ready for spring training. It's no given that he'll be ready then, but this year's tear isn't as bad as the one in his other knee that caused him to miss the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014.

A source tells Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports that Manny Machado is expected to have season-ending knee surgery within a week.

Machado has been on the disabled list since August 12 with a sprained ligament in his right knee, and Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Friday that the third baseman had no timetable for resuming baseball activities. It's a huge loss for the first-place Orioles, who will now have to rely more heavily on Chris Davis and others to fill the position. Machado's season got off to a late start after left knee surgery last season, playing in just 82 games this year.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Friday that there's no timetable for when Manny Machado (knee) will resume baseball activities.

That means he's obviously not going to be ready for activation when first eligible on August 27, and in all likelihood it sounds like it will be a while before he returns. Showalter added that he should know more about Machado's status on Saturday. The star third baseman has been out since mid-August with a sprained right knee.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said that he hopes Manny Machado (knee) will be ready to return when first eligible on August 27 or shortly after.

Machado has a sprained right knee, but overall the O's have to feel pretty lucky that the injury wasn't more serious. "We’ve got a pretty good feel," Showalter said. "We’ve got our arms around it. Hopefully, it will manage itself during [the DL] period, and he will be back there or close to it." Showalter said Machado would have to begin baseball activities by around August 24 in order to return when first eligible.

Orioles placed 3B Manny Machado on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 12, with a sprained ligament in his right knee.

The O's have yet to give an update on how much time Machado will miss, but obviously he'll be out for at least the next couple weeks. The club is expected to eventually provide more clarity on his timetable later Wednesday. Cord Phelps has been promoted to take Machado's spot on the roster.
Wed, Aug 13, 2014 03:10:00 PM

Manny Machado has been diagnosed with a sprained ligament in his right knee.

The Orioles are expected to provide a more detailed update on his condition Wednesday, at which point we should have a better idea about a potential timetable. It's not the worst news Machado could receive, and for now the club is not even sure he'll need a stint on the disabled list. That said, any kind of ligament damage in his knee certainly raises a red flag. The picture should be clearer Wednesday.
