MLB.com's Jon Morosi reports that the Indians and Orioles discussed a potential Manny Machado trade last month, but "the sides aren't actively discussing him now."
Morosi notes that "many in the industry" believe the Indians are open to trading Danny Salazar, and he would certainly seem like a fit with the pitching-starved Orioles. However, it's unclear whether Salazar was involved in talks and it doesn't appear the two clubs have been in touch lately. Machado is not looking like a great bet to be traded before Opening Day at this point. Jan 19 - 5:00 PM

Orioles and INF Manny Machado avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $16 million contract.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand says the deal also includes awards bonuses. Machado, who was arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter, has seen his name pop up in plenty of trade rumors. He's set to strike it rich as part of the monster free agent class next offseason.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Diamondbacks "remain engaged" with the Orioles on Manny Machado and have been the "most persistent" of the teams interested.

Rosenthal cautions that a trade isn't close and he expresses doubt that the Orioles will wind up dealing their star infielder to anyone. However, it sounds like the D'Backs might be the most likely landing spot if a trade does ultimately go down. Machado would take over as the Diamondbacks' shortstop, likely shifting Ketel Marte to second base and Chris Owings to a super utility role.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter told Roch Kubatko of MASN that there has been progress made on what the left side of the infield will look like in 2018.

Kubatko says that it's a "delicate situation" as to who will play third base and who will play shortstop. Manny Machado has reportedly asked to move from third to short, but short is the current position of Tim Beckham, who had a breakout second half after being acquired from Tampa Bay in 2017. There's a chance this delicateness could be avoided altogether if the Orioles trade Machado, but reports indicate that Baltimore hasn't received desirable trade offers. Machado's fantasy value is set no matter what position he's playing. A move to the hot corner or possibly a utility role for Beckham could see his value drop precipitously.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Yankees were in contact with the Orioles regarding Manny Machado again this week.

Heyman believes that the likelihood of Machado being traded anywhere "still seems less than great," as the Orioles haven't come close to jumping on any offer they've received so far. There is also a big hurdle to clear in dealing Machado to the Yankees, as Orioles owner Peter Angelos isn't keen on trading his team's best player to a division rival. However, the Yanks certainly have the prospects to get something done, and they also believe they'd have a good shot to sign Machado long-term. Machado is set to hit free agency after the 2018 season.
Jan 5 - 10:12 AM

According to Tony Massarotti of 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston, the Orioles "aren't getting close to what they want" in Manny Machado trade offers.

Jon Morosi of MLB.com reported last week that the Red Sox were showing continued interest in Machado and teams like the Cubs, Cardinals, White Sox, Giants, Phillies, and Yankees might also still be in the hunt, but Baltimore's asking price apparently remains sky-high. What the Orioles really desire for Machado is multiple young starting pitching prospects. It appears the 25-year-old superstar is going to enter his walk year in the same uniform he has worn since breaking into the major leagues as a 19-year-old in 2012.
Jan 4 - 1:39 PM

Jon Morosi of MLB.com reports that the Red Sox are showing continued interest in acquiring Manny Machado from the Orioles.

The Orioles have received a massive amount of interest in the 25-year-old superstar who is set to hit free agency following the 2018 season. The Red Sox are intent on adding a big bat or two to their lineup this winter, and Machado would certainly fit the bill. Their interest could be overstated though, as it seems they would prefer to add via free agency rather than having to surrender valuable prospects. The Cubs, Cardinals, White Sox, Yankees, Giants, Phillies and Diamondbacks are also known to be interested suitors.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, "it does not appear" the Orioles have a firm deadline on trade negotiations involving Manny Machado.

Baltimore's front office put out word last week that Machado might soon be pulled off the trade block if the offers for him did not improve, but that ultimatum has rung pretty hollow. Morosi says the Orioles "continue to hear from multiple teams" about the 25-year-old superstar, who is due to become a free agent next winter. There is known to be serious interest from the Cubs, Cardinals, White Sox, Yankees, Giants, Phillies, and Diamondbacks. This saga continues.

Orioles sources tell Bob Nightengale of USA Today that Manny Machado is "staying put for now" unless some team "drastically changes their offer."

This ultimatum was initially laid down Wednesday via a report from Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports and now it appears the O's are prepared to follow through. It could also be viewed as a desperate call for final, best proposals from the clubs that have been in the running -- a list that includes the Cubs, Cardinals, White Sox, Yankees, Giants, Phillies, and Diamondbacks. Machado is scheduled to become a free agent next winter and his price tag will likely climb out of the Orioles' comfort zone, so they'd be wise to get something for him at some point. That point could be the summer instead of this winter.

According to MASN's Roch Kubatko, the Cubs' discussions with the Orioles on a potential Manny Machado trade included Addison Russell, Albert Almora, and Mike Montgomery.

It's unclear whether all three players were involved in the same package -- that seems unlikely -- but it probably doesn't matter anyway because Kubatko says "two starting pitchers are a necessity" in any return for Machado. Kubatko then echoes a report from Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports that the Orioles may be ready to pull their 25-year-old superstar off the trade block and try to deal him again over the summer. Machado is scheduled to become a free agent next winter and will likely be seeking a contract worth more than $300 million on the open market. He has also drawn serious interest this offseason from the Cardinals, White Sox, Yankees, Giants, Phillies, and Diamondbacks.
Thu, Dec 21, 2017 11:15:00 AM

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Orioles are "dissatisfied with the trade offers" for Manny Machado and may pull him off the market soon.

This pull-back could happen "as soon as today or tomorrow," Heyman writes Wednesday morning, citing someone familiar with the Orioles' thinking. Machado is scheduled to become a free agent next winter and is believed to want a contract worth more than $300 million, so teams are balking at the idea of giving up top-tier prospects for what could very well be a one-year rental. Heyman notes that the Cardinals, Cubs, White Sox, Yankees, Giants, Phillies, and Diamondbacks have all made inquiries about Machado this winter.

According to Bruce Levine of 670 The Score, the White Sox and Cubs are both "still in on conversations" about Orioles infielder Manny Machado.

Levine is a Chicago-based baseball analyst, which is why this report is centered on the two Chicago teams. There are believed to be at least six other clubs trying to land Machado, including the Cardinals, Red Sox, Phillies, Yankees, and Diamondbacks. Jim Bowden of The Athletic and Sirius XM has heard from sources that there is doubt as to whether Orioles owner Peter Angelos would approve any trade involving his 25-year-old superstar, but Baltimore's front office has apparently kept the phone lines open. Machado is scheduled to hit the open market next winter and will almost certainly climb out of the O's price range as a free agent.

Jim Bowden of Sirius XM and The Athletic hears from sources that there's doubt that Orioles' ownership will sign off on trading Manny Machado even if it's recommended by executive vice president Dan Duquette.

It was previously reported that Peter Angelos wouldn't trade Machado to the Yankees, but it turns out that he might be hesitant about dealing him anywhere. It's widely-believed that the Orioles won't be able to keep Machado when he becomes a free agent next winter, so they'd only have a draft pick to show for it rather than an impressive haul of prospects. According to Bowden, eight teams have made trade offers for Machado thus far. Something will have to give soon.
Tue, Dec 19, 2017 12:29:00 PM

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that trade offers for Manny Machado "improved over the weekend" and that a decision about a trade likely will come this week.

The idea of a Machado trade is moving closer to reality, with Buster Olney of ESPN reporting that the Diamondbacks and White Sox were showing the most interest in a deal as of Saturday morning. Of course, it's possible other teams have moved to the forefront since then. The Cardinals are a logical fit, but it's unclear whether they'd give up the pieces necessary for someone who is one year away from free agency. Either way, with this much interest, the Orioles should soon find something they are satisfied with here.

Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports that it's "highly unlikely" Manny Machado is traded Friday and will "probably not" be dealt over weekend.

Kubatko notes that the interested teams are trying to determine how they would replace the players they'd have to give up for Machado. He also adds that the Diamondbacks "did double back" to speak with the Orioles after having preliminary discussions on Machado earlier this week. It's looking very likely at this point that Machado is traded, but nothing is imminent.
