Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored, but the Orioles lost to the Red Sox on Saturday.
In other news, the sun rose in the east today. Machado's double was his 31st of the season, which is a full year's worth of two-baggers for most players. The third baseman now is hitting .324/.357/.492 on the season. Still just 20, Machado should only get better going forward. Jun 15 - 7:13 PM

Manny Machado had an RBI single in a loss to the Rays on Friday.

It was one of just two hits for the Orioles on the night. Machado has hit safely in each of his last five games, but his batting average has dropped from .336 to .319 over the past eight days. The 20-year-old set the bar pretty high with his red-hot May.
Jun 7 - 9:50 PM

Manny Machado finished 3-for-5 with a double and a stolen base in Monday's 6-2 defeat of the Nationals.

Machado singled in the third inning, doubled in the fourth, drew a walk in the sixth and singled again in the eighth. The 20-year-old infielder is already a hugely impactful player and currently boasts a .335/.366/.522 batting line in 51 games. He's on pace for 238 hits.
May 27 - 4:26 PM

Manny Machado went 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI in a loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday.

With his 20th multi-hit game of the season, his batting line now sits at .330/.362/.527 on the year. Machado leads the majors with 21 doubles through 47 games. At this rate, he could become the first player since 1936 to make it to 60 doubles in a season. Colorado's Todd Helton had 59 in 2000 while teammate Brian Roberts had 56 in 2009. Earl Webb set the all-time record with 67 back in 1931.
May 23 - 10:41 PM

Manny Machado went 4-for-5 with three doubles Wednesday against the Padres.

Machado had a remarkable 14 hits in his last five games, pushing his average up to .343. He had a .255 average and a .657 OPS on this day a month ago. Since then, he's racked up 15 multihit games.
May 15 - 3:57 PM

Manny Machado went 3-for-6 with a go-ahead RBI single in a 9-6 win over the Twins in 10 innings on Friday night.

Machado's RBI single was followed by a sacrifice fly from Nick Markakis and an RBI single by Adam Jones. The rookie third baseman has exceeded expectations in the early part of the season, as he owns a fine .314/.356/.503 batting line to go along with five home runs, 23 RBI, four stolen bases and an .859 OPS. He's already a top-12 third baseman in mixed fantasy leagues.
May 11 - 12:39 AM

Manny Machado went 1-for-4 with a home run in Sunday's win over the Angels.

Machado had a two-run shot off Jerome Williams in the fifth inning and scored two runs. He continues to be as hot as any hitter in baseball. Machado is batting .390 with seven doubles, three home runs and 10 RBIs over his last 14 games.
May 5 - 7:24 PM

Manny Machado collected his third homer and his 12th double Wednesday against the Mariners.

With six doubles in his last six games, Machado now ranks second in the AL in the category, trailing only Mike Napoli. With 20 doubles, four triples and 10 homers in 310 major league at-bats since being called up last year, he's displayed very impressive pop for a 20-year-old infielder.
May 2 - 1:15 AM

Manny Machado went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in the Orioles' win over the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old phenom came up in the second inning with the bases loaded and came through with a two-run single, as the Orioles did all their damage against R.A. Dickey in the second inning. Machado is hitting .268 with 13 RBI after the night, and he bats near the top of a surprisingly potent Orioles lineup. He should only continue to get better.
Apr 23 - 9:54 PM

Manny Machado capped off a five-run ninth inning with a three-run homer off Joel Hanrahan as the Orioles defeated the Red Sox 8-5 on Wednesday.

Machado has had a rough season, so maybe Wednesday night will serve as a turning point for the 20-year-old. The home run, his first of 2013, broke a 5-5 tie and was Machado's only hit on the night. The third baseman is still batting just .200, but he's got potential for much more.
Apr 10 - 11:01 PM

Manny Machado will bat second in Tuesday's season opener against the Rays.

Machado didn't bat higher than sixth in the order in any game last season, but Orioles manager Buck Showalter is giving him a shot against left-hander David Price. The 20-year-old is expected to move back down to the bottom-third of the order against right-handers, but it's still a nice sign for his fantasy value.
Apr 2 - 9:22 AM

Manny Machado is scheduled to have a root canal on Thursday.

Machado probably won't play again until Saturday, but it's not a big deal. The 20-year-old batted .262/.294/.445 with seven home runs, 26 RBI and two stolen bases over 51 games in his first taste of the majors last season and should be relevant in mixed fantasy leagues in 2013.
Mar 7 - 11:14 AM

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Friday that Manny Machado will exclusively play third base during the spring and is not considered the backup at shortstop should anything happen to J.J. Hardy.

A shortstop by trade, Machado made an impact as a 20-year-old rookie while manning the hot corner in 2012. While he's still getting acclimated at the position, Machado has been working hard to improve his overall defense. Expectations should be tempered from a fantasy perspective for 2012, but Machado has the potential to be one the bright young stars in the game.
Feb 15 - 8:33 PM

Manny Machado spent more than 24 hours in a hospital last month due to a case of meningitis.

Machado has since made a full recovery and should be perfectly fine for the start of spring training next February. The 20-year-old batted .262/.294/.445 with seven home runs and 26 RBI over his first 202 major-league plate appearances. He'll start at third base in 2013.
Tue, Dec 4, 2012 04:32:00 PM

Manny Machado became the second-youngest player in postseason history to hit a home run when he took Hiroki Kuroda deep in the fifth inning Wednesday.

Only Andruw Jones at 19 back in 1996 was younger than the 20-year-old. Kuroda hung a slider to Machado, and he deposited it over the left-center field fence for his first hit of the series. Ryan Flaherty also hit a solo blast, but that's all the Orioles could come up with in the extra innings loss.
