According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Padres have checked in on the trade market for Manny Machado.
The Padres have played better ball lately, but they look highly doubtful to earn a spot in the 2018 postseason and Machado is due to become a free agent in November, so this doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Heyman heard from a Padres source that the interest is merely "due diligence" -- possibly setting up for a more intense pursuit of the 25-year-old superstar once he hits the open market. Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Diamondbacks "have been in contact" with the Orioles about a possible Manny Machado trade.

Morosi notes, however, that "this is viewed as due diligence on Arizona’s part" for the time being. You can bet that just about every contending team will reach out to the O's about Machado, who's batting .310/.377/.567 with 18 home runs and 53 RBI in 69 games this season for a Baltimore team that will carry a 20-50 record into play Tuesday. The 25-year-old superstar is scheduled to become a free agent this winter.

Manny Machado went 2-for-5 and drove in two runs during Saturday's loss to the Marlins.

His third-inning single plated both Austin Wynns and Adam Jones but his squad ultimately fell short in the contest. The young shortstop has a monster .308/.377/.570 slash line with 18 home runs, 52 RBI and 32 runs scored in 68 games. He is tied for third in the majors in RBI, trailing only J.D. Martinez and Mitch Haniger.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Orioles have interviewed former Dodgers' general manager Ned Colletti for an executive position.

The team is also believed to be interviewing other candidates as well. It's unclear what hiring a new executive would mean for the future of current general manager Dan Duquette and manager Buck Showalter. The Orioles currently own a 19-49 record, the worst in baseball, and sit 28 games behind the Yankees in the American League East.

Manny Machado (illness) has returned to the Orioles' lineup Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Machado was held out of Monday's lineup due to illness, but he's already feeling better. He's batting third against lefty Eduardo Rodriguez.
Jun 12 - 3:07 PM

Manny Machado is not in Monday's lineup against the Red Sox due to illness.

The hope is that he'll be ready to go Tuesday. Jace Peterson will make the start at shortstop and bat ninth. Jonathan Schoop will hit third while Danny Valencia bats cleanup.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Phillies have "reached out" to the Orioles about a Manny Machado trade.

The Phillies also expressed serious interest in Machado over the winter, so this isn't a huge surprise, but they might make even more sense now as a trade partner because of how things have gone over the first 10 weeks of the season. Philly is just three games back of first place in the National League East standings with a record of 32-28 and currently getting next to nothing out of the shortstop position. Heyman hears from sources that the Phillies "are planning to be big players for Machado as a free agent," so this could turn into more than a rental situation. The 25-year-old impending free agent is batting .323/.391/.617 with 18 home runs and 50 RBI in 61 games this season for the last-place O's.
Jun 7 - 9:57 PM

Manny Machado drove in the Orioles’ lone run Wednesday in a 1-0 win over the Mets.

Machado plated Craig Gentry with a sac fly in the eighth inning. He grounded into a double play, walked and flew out to center field in his other three plate appearances. Machado ranks second in the majors with 49 RBI and is also tied for fourth in home runs (18) behind only J.D. Martinez, Jose Ramirez and Mike Trout. He's going to make a contending team very happy at the trade deadline.
Jun 6 - 4:58 PM

Manny Machado went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two strikeouts in Saturday's loss to the Yankees.

Machado was one of three Orioles batters to hit home runs in the contest, but those dingers were all solo shots and carried relatively little heft. His came off Masahiro Tanaka in the sixth inning. It was his 18th long ball of the season and his third in the last four games. He's up to 47 RBI for the campaign, now. In addition, the star shortstop owns a beautiful .327/.398/.633 triple-slash across 226 at-bats.
Jun 2 - 9:37 PM

Manny Machado blasted his 17th home run of the season as the Orioles fell to the Yankees on Friday night in Baltimore.

His solo shot off of Sonny Gray opened the game's scoring in the first inning, but would wind up being the extent of the Orioles' offensive output in the ballgame. Machado also singled and drew a walk in the game, finishing the night 2-for-3. He's hitting a phenomenal .329/.398/.626 on the season with 17 homers and 46 RBI.
Jun 1 - 10:16 PM

Manny Machado went 1-for-4 with a double during Wednesday's loss to the Nationals.

His double was one of only four hits his club could manage in the ballgame and the only one that went for extra bases as they got shut out by Max Scherzer and Sean Doolittle. The star shortstop is a man among boys in an Orioles' lineup that ranks near the bottom of the major leagues in scoring runs. He has a .324 batting average with 16 longballs, 45 RBI and 30 runs scored. His numbers would look even better if he had some support in the batting order.
May 30 - 10:00 PM

Manny Machado launched a solo home run and added a single Tuesday versus the Nationals.

Bryce Harper belted his 17th home run in the top of the first inning and Machado followed him with a solo shot of his own in the bottom of the frame. The longball was the first in eight games for Machado, who also added a single. He's tied for fourth in the American League with his 16 bombs.
May 29 - 10:50 PM

Manny Machado went 1-for-4 with a double in Saturday's loss to the Rays.

Machado picked up double No. 14 on Saturday, but it came in an offensively inept showing by his team. The much-coveted free-agent-to-be and potential summer trade chip owns a gorgeous .327/.399/.619 batting line with 15 home runs and 44 RBI in 52 games this season. He's tracking toward a career year. Whether the season ends in a Baltimore uniform remains to be seen.
May 26 - 7:20 PM

Manny Machado clubbed his 15th home run of the season Monday in the Orioles' 3-2 defeat of the White Sox.

It was a fourth-inning solo shot off White Sox left-hander Hector Santiago. Machado also drew a walk in the victory, finishing 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. The 25-year-old impending free agent superstar is batting .343/.420/.663 with the 15 dingers and 43 RBI in 47 total games this season.
May 21 - 11:21 PM

Manny Machado went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two RBI on Friday as the Orioles dispatched of the Red Sox.

Machado delivered a two-run single as part of a four-run uprising in the fourth inning. He's completely locked in at the plate at the moment, slashing .347/.423/.671 with 14 homers, 42 RBI and a pair of stolen bases.
