Jerry Sands has been suspended for one game for entering the stands during a confrontation with fans in a game in Toledo.
A fan was reportedly heckling and throwing peanuts at Brandon Inge, who is on a rehab assignment. Sands and Felix Pie were at least two of Inge's teammates that came to his defense, though it sounds like Sands went a little over the line. Still, it's no big deal. Apr 17 - 6:28 PM

Pirates optioned OF/1B Jerry Sands, INF Clint Robinson and RHPs Vic Black, Stolmy Pimentel, Hunter Strickland and Duke Welker to Triple-A Indianapolis.

No surprises in this bunch. The Pirates have a log jam at first base and their corner outfield spots right now, but we wouldn't rule out Sands making an impact at some point this season.

Pirates acquired OF/1B Jerry Sands, RHPs Stolmy Pimentel and Mark Melancon and INF Ivan DeJesus, Jr. from the Pirates for RHP Joel Hanrahan and INF Brock Holt.

Sands has posted some huge numbers in the Pacific Coast League, but owns a .244/.325/.376 batting line through 251 plate appearances in the majors. However, it's worth taking a flier on power potential. The Pirates already have a bit of a log jam between first base and the corner outfield spots, so it's not clear how he'll fit in.

ESPN's Jim Bowden reports that Jerry Sands is involved in the Joel Hanrahan trade.

Sands is the only confirmed player that's involved so far. He was acquired from the Dodgers as the player-to-be-named later in the Adrian Gonzalez deal, and has a .244/.325/.376 batting line through 251 plate appearances in the majors. According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, Jose Iglesias is not currently being offered by the Red Sox.

Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said at last week's General Manager Meetings that Jerry Sands could be a platoon option at first base.

The Red Sox are looking at high-profile free agents like Adam LaRoche and Mike Napoli, so Sands would be more of a fallback option. The 25-year-old was acquired from the Dodgers as a player-to-be-named later in the Adrian Gonzalez. He has posted impressive numbers in the minors, but owns a lousy 244/.325/.376 batting line through 251 plate appearances in the majors. Given his contact issues and platoon splits, he's best utilized as a right-handed bat off the bench.

Red Sox acquired 1B/OF Jerry Sands from the Dodgers to complete the Adrian Gonzalez trade.

The Red Sox also got right-handers Allen Webster and Rubby De La Rosa, first baseman James Loney and infielder Ivan De Jesus in the mega-deal. Loney is due to hit free agency this offseason. Sands has posted some big numbers in the minors, but owns a .244/.325/.376 batting line through 251 plate appearances in the majors. However, there's a chance he could turn into a useful right-handed bat off the bench at the very least.

Jerry Sands is one of the PTBNLs in the nine-player trade between the Red Sox and Dodgers.

Sands will join up with the Red Sox once the regular season is over. The 24-year-old outfielder has posted some gaudy power numbers in the Dodgers' system and should be eventually be an everyday contributor in Boston.

Dodgers optioned OF Jerry Sands to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Sands has hit just .174/.208/.261 in nine games this season in the major leagues. The 24-year-old should be given another shot when rosters expand in September.

Dodgers recalled OF/1B Jerry Sands from Triple-A Albuquerque.

He'll replace Tony Gwynn Jr. on the active roster. Sands, 24, posted a .931 OPS in 418 plate appearances for the Isotopes last year and is currently rocking a .286/.367/.518 slash line for the same team over 95 games in 2012. He's proven to have mastered minor league pitching and the Dodgers will now give him an extended look in the bigs. Sands figures to get most of his at-bats against left-handed pitchers, possibly in place of James Loney at first base, which limits his fantasy value.

Dodgers optioned OF Jerry Sands to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Sands gets the boot to clear a 25-man roster spot for Matt Kemp. He was 4-for-20 in eight big league games.

Dodgers recalled OF/1B Jerry Sands from Triple-A Albuquerque.

He'll replace the injured Matt Kemp (hamstring) on the active roster. Sands, 24, was hitting .257/.348/.485 with seven homers, 28 RBI and an .833 OPS in 161 plate appearances with the Isotopes last year. He figures to get most of his at-bats against left-handed pitchers, possibly in place of James Loney at first base, which limits his fantasy value.

Dodgers reassigned OF Jerry Sands to minor league camp.

Sands failed to impress this spring, batting just .158/.256/.184 in 17 Cactus League games. The 24-year-old has a future in the Dodgers' outfield, but it'll take a few injuries for him to secure an everyday role this year. He will kick off the 2012 campaign at Triple-A Albuquerque.

Jerry Sands is batting just .154/.290/.192 through his first 26 at-bats in the Cactus League.

Sands has drawn five walks but has struck out eight times. The promising 24-year-old was expected to have a part-time role in the Dodgers' outfield to open the 2012 season, but he will likely be sent down to Triple-A Albuquerque in two weeks if the cold streak continues.

Jerry Sands hit a solo homer off Tim Lincecum Tuesday to help push the Dodgers to a 2-1 victory.

Sands is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak -- which has blown his average from .187 to .249 -- and has piled up eight hits over his last three games. Sands hit just .200/.294/.328 in 144 plate appearances with the Dodgers prior to his September 6 recall from the minors. Since that time, he's hit just under .400 with an OPS above 1.000.

Jerry Sands went 4-for-5 with a homer and four RBI in Sunday's skunking of the Pirates.

The Dodgers had an offensive explosion at the expense of the Buccos, pounding out 15 runs on 23 hits. James Loney (five hits), Juan Rivera (four RBI) and Matt Kemp (three hits, home run) also had big days. As for Sands, he's currently riding a modest seven-game hitting streak and has piled up seven hits over his last two games.
