Paders transferred LHP Robbie Erlin from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Erlin began feeling discomfort in his throwing elbow in late April. Further tests revealed a partial UCL tear. He will be undergoing Tommy John surgery. Wednesday's move to the 60-day disabled list was made for roster flexibility.

Robbie Erlin needs Tommy John surgery.

Erlin was placed on the disabled list on April 21 with discomfort in his left elbow and further testing revealed a partial UCL tear. He's going to miss the rest of the 2016 season and the early part of 2017. Erlin, a 25-year-old former top prospect, holds a 4.54 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 109/35 K/BB ratio in 148 2/3 career major league frames.
May 3 - 7:13 PM

Robbie Erlin (elbow) underwent an MRI on Monday.

Erlin landed on the disabled list late last month with a left elbow strain and recently had a setback. The results of the MRI aren't yet known, but he's obviously not close to returning.
May 2 - 7:18 PM

Robbie Erlin (elbow) will not play catch Sunday as hoped.

Erlin had a setback with his elbow last week and isn't ready to throw yet. He'll be re-evaluated early this week, at which point more should be known about his potential timetable.
May 1 - 2:29 PM

Robbie Erlin (elbow) could play catch on Sunday.

Erlin was shut down last week after feeling some soreness in his elbow. He's not close to a return, and with Cesar Vargas pitching well the Padres can afford to take their time with the left-hander.
May 1 - 10:48 AM

Robbie Erlin (elbow) is being backed off his rehab.

It's not clear if he's had a big setback. The hope is he can resume throwing this weekend in Los Angeles. Erlin was placed on the 15-day disabled list April 21 with a left elbow strain and has no clear timetable for returning to the Padres' active roster. It could be a while.
Apr 27 - 2:44 PM

Robbie Erlin (elbow) played catch Sunday.

Erlin was placed on the disabled list last week with a left elbow strain. He's traveling with the team for now and it's unclear when he'll be ready for a minor league rehab assignment.
Apr 25 - 9:07 PM

Padres placed LHP Robbie Erlin on the 15-day disabled list with a left elbow strain.

Leonel Campos was called up from Triple-A El Paso in the corresponding roster move. Erlin looked out of sorts in his last start, allowing six runs and eight hits over six innings Sunday in a loss to Arizona. To this point, Erlin has not undergone an MRI. It's been a nightmare injury month for the Padres, who have already lost Tyson Ross (shoulder), Yangervis Solarte (hamstring) and Cory Spangenberg (quad).
Apr 21 - 4:40 PM

Robbie Erlin struggled in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks, giving up six runs on eight hits over his six innings.

Erlin walked one and struck out four on the afternoon. His biggest downfall was the long ball in this one as Yasmany Tomas launched a pair of home runs against him and Brandon Drury also left the yard. Even with the rough outing, he still sports a respectable 4.02 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 13/3 K/BB ratio through 15 2/3 innings on the season. He'll look to get back on track against the Cardinals at home on Saturday.
Apr 17 - 7:23 PM

Robbie Erlin was a tough-luck loser Tuesday, tossing six frames of one-run ball in a loss to the Phillies.

The left-hander struck out seven on the night, and Philly didn't collect their first hit of the night until two outs in the fifth inning. Erlin's effort was nice to see but ultimately not enough, as his counterpart Charlie Morton was just a bit better. However, the southpaw has certainly earned at least one more start while Tyson Ross (shoulder) is out, and it will come this weekend versus the Diamondbacks at home.
Apr 12 - 10:28 PM

Robbie Erlin will start Tuesday against the Phillies.

He'll be pitching on three days' rest after throwing 41 pitches in a relief appearance Friday against Colorado. Tyson Ross (shoulder) was just placed on the disabled list, which has forced the Padres to shift their rotation around. Erlin collected a 4.76 ERA in three starts for San Diego last season.
Apr 9 - 7:33 PM

Padres recalled LHP Robbie Erlin from Triple-A El Paso.

He's replacing Matt Thornton (Achilles) on the roster. Erlin will give the bullpen some length, which is needed as the club plays at Coors Field this weekend.
Apr 8 - 12:57 PM

Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Padres are expected to recall Robbie Erlin.

It presumably will be to reinforce the club's bullpen after the Padres were battered for 25 runs while being swept by the Dodgers. Erlin competed for a spot in San Diego's rotation in spring training but lost out to Drew Pomeranz and Colin Rea.
Apr 8 - 11:42 AM

Padres optioned LHP Robbie Erlin to Triple-A El Paso.

Colin Rea has officially won the fifth spot in the Padres' rotation. Erlin will be the "sixth" starter for now, although he could eventually get passed by a healthy Brandon Morrow.
