Robbie Erlin was tagged for six runs in four innings by the Nationals in a loss Monday.
Erlin was making just his second start to go along with 13 relief appearances this season. Relief work might suit him a little better, as he's been showing extra velocity out of the pen of late. It's never going to be easy for him to get through major league lineups three times when he's throwing 87-91 mph. May 21 - 10:23 PM

Robbie Erlin will start for the Padres on Monday versus the Nationals.

He's taking the rotation spot of Joey Lucceshi (hip) and could net additional starts if he pitches well. Erlin has posted a 3.60 ERA and 24/4 K/BB ratio over 25 innings this season across 12 relief appearances and one start. Jordan Lyles will move up a day to start Sunday in Pittsburgh.

Robbie Erlin gave up six runs over three innings on Monday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Erlin was given his first start of the season, and if it was an audition, he probably didn't get the part. He's been much more effective out of the bullpen, and there's a strong chance he'll be moved back into that role after his struggles against the Dodgers on Monday.
Apr 17 - 1:27 AM

Padres manager Andy Green confirmed Sunday that Robbie Erlin will start on Monday against the Dodgers.

The 27-year-old has pitched well out of the bullpen in five appearances this season, compiling a 2.38 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 9/2 K/BB ratio. Still, he has more value to the team as a starter if he can succeed there, so he'll get every opportunity to start until he proves he can't do it.
Apr 15 - 7:42 PM

Robbie Erlin hurled 3 2/3 innings of one-run ball in Saturday's Cactus League tie with the Diamondbacks.

Erlin struck out four while walking one and allowing two hits on the afternoon. The lone run he surrendered came in the second inning, though that was merely on a sacrifice fly. Erlin, 27, is trying for a rotation spot after coming back from Tommy John surgery. He's appeared in just six major league games since the start of the 2015 campaign.
Mar 17 - 7:08 PM

Robbie Erlin (elbow) is throwing bullpen sessions in anticipation of vying for a rotation spot this spring.

"Both of those guys, we like where they are right now," Padres manager Andy Green said of Erlin and Colin Rea. "And we like that they're heading back to pitching for us on, hopefully, a consistent basis. They're in the hunt for rotation spots right now." Erlin has made just six major league appearances since the start of the 2015 season and is currently recovering from Tommy John surgery. He's one of 10 pitchers in the hunt for five rotation spots this spring.

Padres and LHP Robbie Erlin avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $650,000 contract.

Erlin hasn't pitched in a game since undergoing Tommy John surgery in May of 2016. He is expected to be ready for spring training. He carries a career 4.54 ERA in 30 career games, including 25 starts. The former top prospect's career has been derailed by injuries but the low-budget Padres must believe he is ready to contribute.

Robbie Erlin is throwing bullpens at the Padres' complex in Arizona, but he appears unlikely to pitch in the majors this year after May 2016 Tommy John surgery.

Erlin's original hope was to complete his rehab around the All-Star break, but it hasn't gone that smoothly. Now it looks like he could pitch in games in the instructional league in October and compete for a rotation spot next spring.

Robbie Erlin (elbow) has started to throw off a mound at 45 feet.

It's a big step as the left-hander works his way back from Tommy John surgery. Erlin is hoping to be an option for the Padres around midseason.

Robbie Erlin (elbow) is hoping to return around midseason.

Erlin underwent Tommy John surgery last May. He's been taking part in fielding and bunting practice and hopes to begin throwing off a mound before the end of spring training. "I don't think there's really like a set date," Erlin said. "We kind of stay away from that so you don't get too jumpy. We just go based on feel. Right now, late June, early July is kind of what we're eyeballing, if everything goes well."

Padres activated LHP Robbie Erlin from the 60-day disabled list.
