Padres optioned LHP Robbie Erlin to Triple-A El Paso.
Erlin had a 3.00 ERA in six spring innings, but he was always a longshot to break camp with the Padres. He remains one of the team's better prospects, though, and should resurface sometime this season. Mar 22 - 1:03 PM

Robbie Erlin was hammered in Sunday's loss to the Giants, surrendering four runs on four hits in just 1 2/3 innings of work.

It's not the way the 23-year-old southpaw wanted to end his season, but the important thing is that he's heading into the offseason healthy. He finishes his 2014 campaign with a 4-5 record, 4.99 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 46/15 K/BB ratio over his 61 1/3 frames.

Robbie Erlin surrendered two runs in four innings in a no-decision against the Rockies on Tuesday.

Erlin allowed six hits, struck out two, and walked a pair while throwing 83 pitches. The 23-year-old left-hander has allowed three runs in 10 frames across two starts while filling for the injured Tyson Ross (general soreness). Erlin (4-4, 4.53 ERA) is scheduled to close out the season in the finale Sunday versus the Giants.

Padres manager Bud Black said after Thursday's game that Robbie Erlin has probablyy earned another start.

Erlin held the Phillies to just one run over six innings while making a start in place of the injured Tyson Ross (general soreness). The Pads haven't officially shut Ross down yet, but even if they don't they could still give Erlin another shot. The left-hander would likely face the Rockies at home, making him a nice streaming option.

Robbie Erlin limited the Phillies to one run over six innings Thursday in a 7-3 victory.

Erlin got this start in place of Tyson Ross, who is battling general soreness. The 23-year-old left-hander made it count, striking out four and walking none as he makes a case to be considered for next year's rotation. We already know Erlin has taken well to Petco Park, where he came into tonight with a 2.53 ERA in nine outings. This was Erlin's first start since May 17. He's struggled with elbow soreness, but should be just fine through the end of the season. Ross' availability will determine whether Erlin (4-4, 4.53 ERA) gets another start.

Robbie Erlin will start on Thursday against the Phillies.

He'll get the ball in place of Tyson Ross, who is battling general soreness. At the moment, it appears Erlin will be in line for just the one start, but it's possible Ross' absence will wind up lasting longer. Erlin holds a 4.89 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 10 games -- eight starts -- for the Padres this season.

Robbie Erlin (elbow) said Monday that he's about two weeks away from throwing off a mound.

Erlin resumed throwing a week ago, long-tossing from 110 feet on Monday in his most recent session. The left-hander has been out since mid-May with left elbow soreness and is probably looking at the end of July before he can realistically rejoin the Padres' rotation.
