The 23-year-old southpaw finished with a 2.87 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP and 79/18 K/BB ratio in 62 2/3 innings between Double-A and the Padres' rookie league affiliate. Oramas' addition to the 40-man roster protects him from being selected in December's Rule 5 Draft.

Oramas was non-tendered by the Padres last month, but the two sides have hammered out a new agreement. The 22-year-old left-hander had Tommy John surgery in June and will likely be sidelined until around midseason.

He's only 5-foot-10, but has three average or better pitches, including a plus-curveball. The southpaw should begin the 2012 season at the Triple-A level.
