Angels released RHP Francisco Rodriguez.
Rodriguez, who made 53 relief appearances with the Angels from 2010-2011, had an ugly 6.35 ERA and 28/31 K/BB ratio over 51 innings with Triple-A Salt Lake this season. The 29-year-old right-hander will attempt to latch on elsewhere. Wed, Aug 8, 2012 09:12:00 AM

Rodriguez had a 3.12 ERA and 4/4 K/BB ratio over 8 2/3 innings this spring. He made 10 appearances with the big club last season and will continue to serve as relief depth in the minors.

Francisco Rodriguez took the loss on Monday, surrendering three earned runs over 1 2/3 innings.

Rodriguez had looked sharp in his three other spring outings, tossing five scoreless innings and posting a 4/2 K/BB ratio. But he just didn't have it against Colorado, which pummeled him with four hits for the come-from-behind victory.

Angels re-signed RHP Francisco Rodriguez to a minor league contract.

Rodriguez can earn a $481,000 salary if he makes the big league roster this spring. The 28-year-old had a 4.61 ERA in 10 relief appearances for the Angels last season.

Angels recalled RHP Francisco Rodriguez from Triple-A Salt Lake.

The "other" Francisco Rodriguez failed to will a bullpen spot after a terrible spring, but it didn't take him long to rejoin the big club. He'll be used in the middle innings.

Angels optioned RHP Francisco Rodriguez to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Rodriguez opened camp talking about winning the closer role, but couldn't even secure a roster spot after posting a lousy 8.00 ERA over eight appearances this spring. The 28-year-old right-hander had a 4.37 ERA and 36/26 K/BB ratio over 47 1/3 innings at the major league level last season.

Francisco Rodriguez saw his spring ERA balloon to 9.00 on Monday, as he allowed two hits, two walks and three runs in one inning of work against the Cubs in a game that was eventually postponed.

Including his unofficial stats from today, the "other" Francisco Rodriguez has now allowed at least one run in four of his seven spring outings, while getting tagged for three in two of them. He said earlier this spring he wanted to be in the mix for saves in Los Angeles this season, but at the rate things are going, he might not even be in the mix for the roster.

Francisco Rodriguez said Tuesday that he wants a chance to win the closer's job.

No, not that K-Rod. We're talking about the one who had a 4.37 ERA and 36/26 K/BB ratio over 47 1/3 innings with the club last season. "I heard the closer spot is not decided," said Rodriguez. "I raise my hand and volunteer. I don't want to challenge any guys here, but I can do the job." Rodriguez, who turns 27 later this week, did close some games with his Mexican Winter League team, but there's not much upside here. While Fernando Rodney is the team's closer on paper, Kevin Jepsen and Scott Downs are better bets than Rodriguez to challenge for the job.

Francisco Rodriguez gave up 3 runs in 2/3 of an inning and drew the loss against the Orioles.

So much for becoming the new K-Rod. His meltdown, which included a balk, cost Trevor Bell a shot at his second major league win. Rodriguez should be avoided in all fantasy formats.
