Royals placed 3B Cheslor Cuthbert on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to May 16, with a lower back strain.
Cuthbert has been dealing with back issues since he left Monday's game due to back spasms, and it got to the point that the deal decided to shelve him for a few days to get him right. The move is retroactive to Wednesday, and Royals manager Ned Yost said he doesn't expect the third baseman to miss more than the minimum. May 19 - 8:39 PM

Cheslor Cuthbert (back) is available off the Royals' bench Tuesday against the Rays.

Cuthbert made an early exit from Monday night's series opener versus Tampa Bay after experiencing back spasms. It's obviously not a serious issue.
May 15 - 5:19 PM

Cheslor Cuthbert departed Monday's game against the Rays because of back spasms.

It would appear at this point to be a day-to-day situation. Cuthbert was hitless in three plate appearances before exiting and is now batting just .194/.282/.301 on the season.
May 14 - 10:18 PM

Cheslor Cuthbert reached three times Wednesday in KC’s loss to the Red Sox.

Cuthbert began his day by striking out against Drew Pomeranz in the second inning but shrugged it off by walking in the third, singling in the sixth and homering in the eighth. His eighth inning solo shot didn’t travel very far (ESPN had it at 335 feet) but wrapped around the famous Pesky Pole in right field. Cuthbert had been slumping prior to Wednesday with just two hits in his previous 23 at-bats. For the year, he’s hitting .221 with three long balls, 11 RBI and nine runs scored.
May 2 - 4:48 PM

Cheslor Cuthbert hit two homers, driving in four runs, to help the Royals edge the White Sox 5-4 on Sunday.

The homers -- a solo shot in the fourth inning and a three-run dong an inning later -- were the first two of the year for the infielder. To say the outburst was out of character would be an understatement; Cuthbert is hitting just .224/.302/.329, even after Sunday's outburst. Certainly a day to remember for the 25-year-old.
Apr 29 - 7:47 PM

Cheslor Cuthbert went 0-for-5 on Friday, dropping his average to .221.

Cuthbert also has just two extra-base hits in 78 plate appearances. He spent most of the first two weeks batting fourth and fifth for the Royals, but he's due to get less playing time now that the team is healthier.
Apr 28 - 12:02 AM

Cheslor Cuthbert went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts as the Royals' DH and cleanup man on Friday.

The Royals could and should have signed another cheap FA bat after Jorge Bonifacio went down. Instead, they're giving Cuthbert a shot, even batting him cleanup the last four games. He's just 6-for-31 with one extra-base hits (a double) and two RBI to date, and he doesn't project to get all that much better.
Apr 13 - 11:45 PM

Cheslor Cuthbert went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored Tuesday against the Tigers.

Cuthbert led off the second with a double off Matt Boyd before moving to third when Paulo Orlando lined out to center. He was then brought home on a Jorge Soler sacrifice fly. Cuthbert is 4-for-10 with two RBI to begin the year. There's not much room for fantasy value here, but he could get another couple of starts this week depending on the status of Lucas Duda's hamstring.
Apr 3 - 4:14 PM

Cheslor Cuthbert went 4-for-4 with a solo homer, three RBI, and two runs scored in Friday’s 9-6 win over the Giants in Cactus League action.

Cuthbert was on track to begin the year as the Royals’ starting third baseman, but that changed after the club brought back Mike Moustakas. Now his best chance for at-bats will be out of the designated hitter spot. Cuthbert, who is out of options this spring, has done his best to impress by hitting .407 (22-for-54) with three homers and nine RBI.
Mar 23 - 8:52 PM

Cheslor Cuthbert belted a solo homer in the Royals' Cactus League loss to the Padres on Tuesday.

Cuthbert took former teammate Chris Young deep over the left field wall in the bottom of the third inning. The 25-year-old projects to serve as the Royals' everyday third baseman in 2018, though as a .261/.306/.390 career hitter he offers very little fantasy upside. Cuthbert batted just .231/.275/.322 with two home runs over 153 plate appearances for Kansas City in 2017.
Mar 6 - 11:23 PM

Cheslor Cuthbert (gallbladder) came off the bench and delivered an RBI single in his return to action Sunday against the Twins.

Cuthbert came into the game to play first base with the Royals up big. The 24-year-old has been dealing with gallbladder issues in recent days, but that he was able to come off the bench is a good sign about his progress.

Cheslor Cuthbert has been unavailable lately due to gall bladder problems.

"It’s not inflamed but it’s kind of acted up," Royals manager Ned Yost said of Cuthbert. "He’s vomiting a lot. He’s just very weak and doesn’t feel good." The timing is poor for Cuthbert, as he'd be in line for some playing time at third base with Mike Moustakas (knee) being used in the designated hitter spot. It's unclear when Cuthbert might be ready to play.

Cheslor Cuthbert went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in the Royals' 7-4 win over the Indians on Sunday.

Cuthbert launched a game-tying solo shot off Danny Salazar in the bottom of the fourth inning and he contributed a two-run single to the Royals' three-run fifth inning. The 24-year-old infielder is slashing .226/.265/.340 with two home runs and 17 RBI in 39 games this season.

Cheslor Cuthbert returned to the Royals' lineup with a bang on Tuesday, delivering a three-run double in a loss to the Cardinals.

His bases-clearing two-bagger got the Royals on the board in the fourth inning but proved to be their only offense in the ballgame. Cuthbert finished the night 2-for-4, raising his season slash to .202/.232/.292.

Royals activated INF Cheslor Cuthbert from the 10-day disabled list.

Cuthbert has been out since late June with a sprained wrist and bruised foot. Ramon Torres was optioned in a corresponding move.
