Addison Russell doubled twice and knocked in four runs as the Cubs beat the Nationals 9-8 on Thursday to advance to the NLCS.

The Cubs won a wild game despite being outhomered 2-0, outhit 14-9 and outwalked 9-6. Russell woke up tonight after going 2-for-13 with no RBI in the first four games against the Nationals. It was his first four-RBI game since way back on April 19.

Addison Russell went 1-for-4 and blasted a three-run homer to lead his team over the Cardinals on Wednesday.

His bomb off starter Michael Wacha was the key salvo in the Cubs' five run, game-winning outburst in the seventh inning. The young shortstop recently returned to action after spending six weeks on the disabled list with an injured foot. His stats have taken a large step backward compared to last year. He has a .242 batting average with 12 home runs, 43 RBI and 52 runs in 380 plate appearances. He's still just 23 years old and has a very bright future.

Addison Russell is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Cardinals.

It sounds like a routine day of rest. Maybe he can eat some nachos. Mike Freeman will make the start at shortstop.
Sep 26 - 3:23 PM

Cubs activated SS Addison Russell from the 10-day disabled list.

He'll be eased back into action and the Cubs don't expect him to play every day down the stretch. Russell has been sidelined since the first week of August due to his foot issue.
Sep 16 - 1:35 PM

Addison Russell (foot) will go through one more workout Saturday before being activated from the disabled list.

Russell said Friday that he considers himself game-ready following a workout Thursday, but the Cubs will put him through the motions again Saturday before clearing him to return. Manager Joe Maddon said that Russell is unlikely to play every day down the stretch given that he didn't have the luxury of a rehab assignment. Fantasy owners shouldn't be counting on much here.
Sep 15 - 12:45 PM

Addison Russell (foot) said Friday that he believes he's game-ready.

Russell hasn't been activated from the disabled list yet, but it seems likely to happen at some point this weekend. The young shortstop has been on the shelf since early August due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot. He had a setback with the foot earlier this month but has recovered nicely since then. Fantasy owners probably shouldn't expect Russell to play every day once activated.
Sep 15 - 12:22 PM

Addison Russell (foot) went through another full day of activity without any setbacks on Thursday.

Russell hit in the cages and ran the bases on Thursday. Barring any setbacks, he's on track to rejoin the Cubs early next week.
Sep 14 - 7:39 PM

Addison Russell (foot) hit in the cage and ran some bases on Wednesday.

Russell had a slight setback earlier this month with the plantar fasciitis in his right foot, but it appears things are starting to pick up for the shortstop. It still looks like he'll be returning around the end of September, with the hope that he'll be near full strength if/when the Cubs make the postseason.
Sep 13 - 5:23 PM

Addison Russell (foot) did some jogging on the field pre-game on Friday.

Russell had a setback last week with the plantar fasciitis in his right foot, but he's feeling better slowly ramping things back up. That said, at this point the best the Cubs can probably hope for is some late-season token appearances for Russell to shake off the rust before the playoffs.
Sep 8 - 4:55 PM

Addison Russell (foot) will be sidelined for the next three weeks after re-aggravating the plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

An MRI confirmed the diagnosis on Thursday. Russell had been making progress toward a return, playing a pair of minor league games before the injury occurred. The Cubs will continue to get by without him for the time being.
Sep 1 - 1:13 AM

Addison Russell (foot) felt renewed soreness prior to his minor league rehab game on Wednesday and is returning to Chicago for a medical recheck.

Russell played in his first minor league rehab game on Tuesday, going 1-for-3 with a double. This lingering soreness scuttles his recovery timetable, as he had been on track to potentially be activated from the disabled list on Friday. Russell has been out of action due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot since early August.
Aug 30 - 6:33 PM

Addison Russell (foot) went 1-for-3 with a double Monday in his first minor league rehab game with Triple-A Iowa.

Russell played five innings at shortstop in his first game action since August 2. He's slated to play about four or five games in the minors, which puts him on track to return around when rosters expand on Friday. Russell is working his way back from plantar fasciitis in his right foot.
Aug 29 - 8:35 AM

Addison Russell (foot) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Monday.

Russell went through a moderate workout Saturday and evidently came out of it with no concerns. He's expected to require 4-5 rehab games -- including back-to-back contests -- before being activated. That should put him in line to return as soon as next weekend. Russell has been out since the first week of August due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot.
Aug 27 - 12:32 PM

Addison Russell (foot) is expected to need 4-5 rehab games before returning from the disabled list.

Russell went through a moderate workout Saturday, which included making throws off his ailing right foot. Assuming he recovers well, a rehab assignment is likely the next step. He's poised for a return right after rosters expand if he can continue progressing.
