Addison Russell was credited with six RBI in the Cubs' 9-3 victory over the Indians in Game 6 of the World Series on Tuesday night.
The first two RBI came on a misplay by Indians outfielders Tyler Naquin and Lonnie Chisenhall in the Cubs' three-run first inning, and the other four came on a grand slam off Dan Otero in the top of the third. Russell is one of only four players in MLB history to tally six RBI in a World Series game. The other three: Bobby Richardson (1960, Yankees), Hideki Matsui (2009, Yankees), and Albert Pujols (2011, Cardinals). Russell is also now the second-youngest player to hit a grand slam in a World Series game. The youngest? Mickey Mantle, who did it at age 21 with the Yankees in 1953. Nov 1 - 11:47 PM

Addison Russell went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer in Thursday’s Game 5 win over the Dodgers.

We’re probably not going to hear any more calls to bench him anytime soon. The game was tied 1-1 before Russell put the Cubs ahead with a two-run blast to distant center field against Joe Blanton in the sixth. The Cubs tacked on five more runs in the eighth to put the game out of reach. After going 1-for-24 to begin the postseason, Russell has now homered in back-to-back games.
Oct 21 - 12:29 AM

Addison Russell launched a two-run home run off Julio Urias in the fourth inning of Wednesday's 10-2 win over the Dodgers in Game 4 of the NLCS.

At the time Russell smashed his two-run opposite field homer to right with one out in the fourth inning, he had managed just one hit in his last 25 postseason at-bats and was hit-less in his last 18. He broke out and then some starting with that homer. He would go on to pick up two additional singles before the end of the game. Manager Joe Maddon dropped Russell from seventh to eighth in the lineup for Wednesday's game, but wouldn't leave the 22-year-old shortstop out of the loop completely. That patience looks sharp in hindsight. Russell and the Cubs will be opposed by Kenta Maeda in Game 5 as both teams look to snap a 2-2 series tie.
Oct 20 - 12:15 AM

Addison Russell has been dropped to eighth in the Cubs' starting lineup for Game 4 of the NCLS on Wednesday.

With the Cubs trailing 2-1 in the series, manager Joe Maddon has made a few notable changes. Russell, who was batting seventh on Tuesday, has been bumped down a spot in the lineup. Jason Heyward will hit seventh in his place after failing to draw the right field start on Tuesday. The Cubs full lineup for Game 4: Dexter Fowler CF, Kris Bryant 3B, Anthony Rizzo 1B, Ben Zobrist LF, Javier Baez 2B, Wilson Contreras C, Jason Heyward RF, Addison Russell SS, John Lackey P. They will be opposed by young Dodgers southpaw Julio Urias.

Addison Russell finished 0-for-2 with a strikeout as the Cubs fell to the Dodgers in Game 3 of the NLCS on Tuesday.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon actually pulled his young shortstop for a pinch-hitter in the top of the seventh -- Jayson Heyward, who promptly struck out. Russell is hitless in the NLCS, and he has just one hit in 24 total at-bats since the playoffs began. He looks like a guy who could use a day off, but that's obviously not an option at the moment.
Oct 18 - 11:49 PM

Addison Russell clubbed his 20th home run of the season as the Cubs routed the Astros 9-5 in Houston on Sunday night.

Russell launched his two-run homer in the fourth inning, increasing the Cubs early advantage to 9-0. He also chipped in a couple of singles in the ballgame, finishing the night 3-for-4 with three runs scored. For the season, he's hitting .247/.330/.433 with 20 long balls and 90 RBI.
Sep 11 - 11:17 PM

It appears to be just a routine day of rest for Russell. Javy Baez will start in his place and bat eighth against Collin McHugh and the Astros on Saturday.
Sep 10 - 10:28 AM

Addison Russell is not in the Cubs' lineup Friday.

It appears to be a simple day off. Javier Baez will handle shortstop.
Sep 2 - 10:49 AM

Addison Russell hit a go-ahead, two-run single in the seventh inning as the Cubs edged the Giants 5-4 on Thursday.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh, Russell muscled an inside pitch over the infield that dropped in front of left fielder Angel Pagan, plating two. It was his only hit in four at-bats, but the 22-year-old seems to constantly find ways to contribute even when he's not having a big night. Russell now has 88 RBI, fifth-most in the National League, to go with a .243/.326/.425 line in 126 games.
Sep 1 - 11:36 PM

Addison Russell is out of the Cubs' starting lineup Monday night against the Pirates.

Javier Baez is starting at shortstop and batting eighth versus Pittsburgh left-hander Steven Brault. This appears to be a simple day of rest for Russell.
Aug 29 - 3:43 PM

Addison Russell went 2-for-5 with a double and a two-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Padres.

Russell cranked a two-run home run off Padres starter Christian Friedrich in the fifth inning. The dinger was his 19th of the season. For the campaign as a whole, the 22-year-old shortstop is slashing .251/.336/.445 across 418 at-bats. He has homered in each of his last three games, including a two-homer effort against the Rockies on Sunday.
Aug 24 - 1:34 AM

Addison Russell hit a pair of solo homers Sunday in the Cubs' loss to the Rockies.

He got to Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa in both the top of the fifth and the top of the seventh, but Colorado's offense produced 11 runs on 14 hits to take an 11-4 win. Russell finished the day 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. He's up to 17 homers and 78 RBI for the year.
Aug 21 - 7:20 PM

Addison Russell hit a solo home run on a 1-for-4 night Wednesday

It was his 13th longball of the year -- one more than he hit in his rookie season last year. He is batting .243/.329/.397 with 43 runs and 67 RBI. The former elite prospect is not a top-tier fantasy shortstop, but at only 22 years of age he could develop into one over the next few years.
Aug 10 - 11:09 PM

Addison Russell provided two hits in Saturday's win over the Athletics.

Russell got his revenge on the team that drafted him by contributing two singles including an infield hit that drove in a run in the sixth inning. He also logged his fourth stolen base. The 22-year-old hasn't hit for a high average this year (.247 in 364 at-bats) but he's been a consistent run producer with surprising power. He'll look to extend his hitting streak to six games Sunday in the series finale.
Aug 6 - 8:14 PM

Addison Russell is out of the Cubs' starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Marlins.

Javier Baez will start at shortstop and bat eighth versus Miami right-hander Tom Koehler. It's just a day of rest for Russell, who's batting .241/.329/.401 with 12 home runs and 65 RBI in 101 games this season.
