Addison Russell (groin) went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in his return to the Cubs' lineup Wednesday.
Russell missed a couple of games with tightness in his groin. It obviously wasn't anything major. The 21-year-old didn't show much at the plate in his return Wednesday, but he made some slick plays at shortstop. Aug 27 - 8:41 AM

Addison Russell is day-to-day with a tight groin.

The young shortstop is out of the Cubs' starting lineup on Monday, but this doesn't sound like something that will put him on the disabled list. Russell's fiance is in labor, so he probably would have been taking the day off anyway. Starlin Castro is getting the start Monday afternoon versus Cleveland.

Addison Russell was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Braves due to tightness in his groin.

It sounds as though the injury is minor and that Russell should be able to return to the lineup in a day or two. Starlin Castro replaced him on Sunday and would be in line for additional playing time if Russell is forced into any sort of extended absence.
Aug 23 - 5:52 PM

Addison Russell went 2-for-4 and hit his eighth homer Thursday against the Braves.

Russell hasn't been able to do a whole lot for fantasy owners while batting ninth for the Cubs, but he's shown impressive pop for a 21-year-old, racking up 31 extra-base hits in 352 at-bats. Unfortunately, it's turned into a mere 32 RBI since he's so often hit behind the pitcher.
Aug 20 - 11:52 PM

Addison Russell finished 3-for-4 with an RBI in the Cubs' 8-6 win over the Giants on Saturday.

Russell doubled in the second, doubled again in the fourth, and then slapped an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. He has made two straight starts at shortstop and looks to be the Cubs' everyday man there going forward. Starlin Castro has essentially been benched. Chicago has won nine of its last 10 games.
Aug 8 - 7:34 PM

Addison Russell went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Brewers.

Russell took a Kyle Lohse offering for a ride in the second inning to notch his seventh home run of the season. In 299 at-bats this season, he's hitting .237/.303/.368 with 27 RBI and the seven long balls. At 21 years old, Russell is not a finished product yet. Those in keeper formats should just stay the course until he's had more time to develop.

Addison Russell is absent from the Cubs' lineup Sunday.

He's just getting a breather. Jonathan Herrera is at second base while Russell sits.
Jul 19 - 1:30 PM

Addison Russell had an RBI single and a run scored in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

After sitting in the first game of the day, Russell found a way to contribute in the nightcap. His RBI single in the seventh inning tied the game, and he scored later in the inning. Despite the highlights, he finished 1-for-3 and has just three hits in his last 37 at-bats. The Cubs surely won't give up on their 21-year-old second baseman, but his .227/.291/.356 line is hard to stomach for the time being.
Jul 8 - 12:53 AM

Addison Russell is not in the starting lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

Jonathan Herrera will start at second base and bat ninth. Russell is currently mired in a 2-for-34 slump, but he figures to play in the second game.
Jul 7 - 11:06 AM

Cubs manager Joe Maddon issued a vote of confidence for struggling second baseman Addison Russell.

Russell's going through a major slump right now and has just two hits in his last 31 at-bats. Joe Maddon didn't seem worried when asked about the 22-year-old, though, saying "I think he looks good at the plate" and professing confidence that Russell will snap out of the slump soon enough. He's hitting .229/.294/.361 this season.
