Addison Russell hit a walkoff three-run homer Wednesday in the Cubs' 7-4 comeback win over the Brewers.
Chicago's bats were mostly held quiet by Brewers left-hander Tommy Milone, but Russell brought the Cubs within one run with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth and then unloaded for a three-run walkoff bomb off Brewers closer Neftali Feliz in the bottom of the ninth. Addison Russell went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored in Saturday's loss to the Pirates.

The game started well for the defending champs but went south from there. Russell ripped an RBI-triple in the first inning and scored on a Jason Heyward single. Russell then smacked a double to plate two runs in the third frame. He is now batting .271/.286/.479 with one homer, eight runs and eight RBI through 49 plate appearances. The 23-year-old is already one of the top 10 shortstops in fantasy baseball and only getting better.

Addison Russell went 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored in a win over the Brewers on Saturday.

Cubs bats were spraying hits all over the field today. They racked up 17 hits but uncharacteristically none of them left the yard. Russell was one of five Cubs with multi-hit days. Two of his hits were doubles. He is now batting .273/.304/.409 through five games.

Addison Russell went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI Thursday in the Cubs’ exhibition loss to the Astros.

He singled home a run in the second and followed that up with a two-run blast in the third. Thursday was Russell’s first game action in over a week after dealing with a minor back injury. His status for Opening Day was never in doubt.

Russell hasn't played in a week due to back soreness and isn't ready to return to the lineup just yet, but he's expected to do some hitting in the cage on Wednesday before returning on Thursday. Barring a setback, he's still on track to be ready for the season.

"I'm certain he's going to be fine," said Maddon. Russell has missed the past week with back soreness but is on the mend and could return to game action before the end of spring training. Among major league shortstops, only Carlos Correa drove in more runs than Russell last season.

Russell hasn't appeared in a Cactus League game since last Wednesday because of a stiff back, but it sounds like the Cubs are simply playing it safe. The young shortstop should be ready for Opening Day.

Addison Russell blasted his fifth home run of the Cactus League season as the Cubs fell to the Royals on Sunday night.

The hard-hitting shortstop tagged Mike Minor for a solo shot to get the Cubs on the board in the eighth inning. He finished the night 2-for-3 and is now hitting .300 with five bombs and nine RBI this spring.

Rather than letting his contract renew, the budding star will earn a nice raise over the $527,000 that he earned in 2016. He'll be arbitration-eligible for the first time following the 2017 season.

Russell tagged Vicente Campos with a shot to center in the bottom of the third inning. It was the second home run in as many days for the 23-year-old shortstop, who's batting .400 with a 1.600 OPS through three Cactus League games.
