Addison Russell went 0-for-4 on Monday and is batting .170 in 53 at-bats this month.

Russell is leading the NL All-Star balloting at shortstop, but it doesn't seem warranted at this point. His OPS peaked at .822 on May 14, but it stands at .688 right now. He's in no danger of losing his job, but he could be rested more frequently until his slump concludes.

Addison Russell smacked a solo homer in Monday's loss to the Nationals.

Russell's blast with one out in the sixth inning broke up Max Scherzer's perfect game. However, an Anthony Rizzo double in the seventh is the only other hit they were able to muster in the game. It was Russell's first longball since May 14 and his fifth on the season.

Addison Russell had a rough night at the plate in Sunday's loss to the Giants, picking up a golden sombrero as he whiffed in each of his four plate appearances.

The Cubs as a team had a very tough time against Madison Bumgarner and company, but Russell had the worst of it. In perhaps the biggest spot of the night, Russell was called out on strikes with the bases loaded in the first inning. With the hitless night, he's now hitting .234/.342/.394 with four homers and 28 RBI on the season.

Addison Russell hit a two-run double in the seventh inning to break a tie score, leading the Cubs to an 8-5 win over the Nationals on Saturday.

Russell had an RBI single in the sixth inning to help the Cubs close the gap, and with the game knotted at 5-5 he delivered a bases-loaded double an inning later to give the Cubs a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Russell, who hasn't batted higher than sixth in the Cubs' lineup in a game this season, now has 18 RBI on the year. It's that kind of lineup depth that has the Cubs sitting at 23-6 in early May.
