Addison Russell stayed behind in Denver and spent a couple hours in the hospital after having an allergic reaction to food from the postgame spread Sunday.

Russell has a shellfish allergy and thinks he might have eaten something that had shrimp in it but wasn't labeled properly. The good news is he's doing fine now and rejoined the Cubs on Monday in Cleveland. Russell thinks he'll be well enough to play Tuesday.
Apr 23 - 5:35 PM

Addison Russell was hitless in three plate appearances in Friday's loss to the Braves.

He wasn't alone, as the Cubs managed just four hits and no runs against Anibal Sanchez and the bullpen. Russell has just one hit over his last 20 at-bats and is still looking for his first home run this season.
Apr 13 - 5:45 PM

Addison Russell is absent from the Cubs' starting lineup for Saturday's showdown against the Brewers in Milwaukee.

Javy Baez will slide over and cover shortstop in his absence while Tommy La Stella starts at second base. Russell is off to a nice start at the plate, hitting .308/.438/.423 with two RBI and a 3/5 K/BB ratio in his first 32 plate appearances.
Apr 7 - 12:37 PM

Addison Russell went 1-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs on Monday as the Cubs topped the Reds 5-4 in Cactus League play.

Russell's two-run knock in the fifth inning put the Cubs ahead to stay. He struck out in each of his other two plate appearances in the contest, finishing the day 1-for-3. Russell is hitting a cool .364 in Cactus League play with nine RBI.
Mar 20 - 12:43 AM

Addison Russell smashed two singles and drove in two runs in a 10-4 victory over the Padres on Thursday in the Cactus League.

Russell, 24, is now hitting .353 after the two singles against the Padres in Arizona. There have been flashes of brilliance from Russell since he became an everyday player, but those flashes have come with plenty of frustration. Still, this is one of the more talented shortstops in baseball, and sooner or later, you get the feeling that he's going to put it all together at the plate. It's just not easy to trust that 2018 will be that season.
Mar 8 - 6:17 PM

Cubs and SS Addison Russell avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.2 million contract.

Russell was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter as a Super 2 qualifier. He's disappointed offensively for the Cubs so far (.240/.312/.408) but has been an excellent defender and turns just 24 later this month.
Jan 12 - 4:13 PM

Addison Russell clubbed a solo home run on Sunday as the Cubs fell to the Dodgers in Game 2 of the NLCS.

Russell's solo shot off of Rich Hill got the Cubs on the board in the fifth inning, but would wind up being their only offense in the contest. Russell finished the night 1-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts. He's hitting .208/.269/.417 with a homer and five RBI in the postseason.

Addison Russell doubled twice and knocked in four runs as the Cubs beat the Nationals 9-8 on Thursday to advance to the NLCS.

The Cubs won a wild game despite being outhomered 2-0, outhit 14-9 and outwalked 9-6. Russell woke up tonight after going 2-for-13 with no RBI in the first four games against the Nationals. It was his first four-RBI game since way back on April 19.

Addison Russell went 1-for-4 and blasted a three-run homer to lead his team over the Cardinals on Wednesday.

His bomb off starter Michael Wacha was the key salvo in the Cubs' five run, game-winning outburst in the seventh inning. The young shortstop recently returned to action after spending six weeks on the disabled list with an injured foot. His stats have taken a large step backward compared to last year. He has a .242 batting average with 12 home runs, 43 RBI and 52 runs in 380 plate appearances. He's still just 23 years old and has a very bright future.

Addison Russell is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Cardinals.

It sounds like a routine day of rest. Maybe he can eat some nachos. Mike Freeman will make the start at shortstop.

Cubs activated SS Addison Russell from the 10-day disabled list.

He'll be eased back into action and the Cubs don't expect him to play every day down the stretch. Russell has been sidelined since the first week of August due to his foot issue.

Addison Russell (foot) will go through one more workout Saturday before being activated from the disabled list.

Russell said Friday that he considers himself game-ready following a workout Thursday, but the Cubs will put him through the motions again Saturday before clearing him to return. Manager Joe Maddon said that Russell is unlikely to play every day down the stretch given that he didn't have the luxury of a rehab assignment. Fantasy owners shouldn't be counting on much here.

Addison Russell (foot) said Friday that he believes he's game-ready.

Russell hasn't been activated from the disabled list yet, but it seems likely to happen at some point this weekend. The young shortstop has been on the shelf since early August due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot. He had a setback with the foot earlier this month but has recovered nicely since then. Fantasy owners probably shouldn't expect Russell to play every day once activated.

Addison Russell (foot) went through another full day of activity without any setbacks on Thursday.

Russell hit in the cages and ran the bases on Thursday. Barring any setbacks, he's on track to rejoin the Cubs early next week.
