Addison Russell cranked a grand slam against the White Sox on Wednesday.

It was his only hit of the night but it was a big one. It was his 12th home run of the season in 379 plate appearances. He has a .248 batting average, 40 runs and 60 RBI in the Cubs strong lineup. Those are essentially league-average numbers, which is very good considering he is only 22 years old and still developing.

Addison Russell went 0-for-3 with a walk Monday against the White Sox.

Russell started at shortstop tonight after leaving Sunday's game with a bruised left heel.
Jul 26 - 12:09 AM

Addison Russell exited Sunday's game against the Brewers with a bruised left heel.

He fouled a ball off the heel Saturday and it got progressively sore on him Sunday. The Cubs are saying his removal was precautionary, so consider Russell day-to-day. Javier Baez is likely to fill in at shortstop for any amount of time that Russell might miss.
Jul 24 - 4:03 PM

Addison Russell departed Sunday's game against the Brewers with an undisclosed injury.

Russell was pulled after flying out to end the fourth inning. He didn't suffer any obvious injury, but the Cubs should provide more on his status shortly.

Addison Russell went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI in the Cubs' defeat of the Rangers on Friday.

Russell doubled and scored the game's first run in the bottom of the second inning and then cracked an RBI single in the Cubs' five-run sixth. The young shortstop started for the National League in Tuesday night's All-Star game. He's batting .241/.331/.407 with 53 RBI and 38 runs scored in 84 games this season.
Jul 15 - 5:16 PM

Addison Russell blasted a pair of home runs and drove home three on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough to lead the Cubs to victory over the Reds.

Russell and the rest of his teammates victimized Reds starter Brandon Finnegan for four long balls in the first five innings, but that wound up being the extent of their offense in the ballgame. He finished the afternoon 2-for-4, raising his season slash to .242/.338/.416 to go along with 11 homers and 48 RBI.
Jul 5 - 5:31 PM

Addison Russell went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Monday's blowout win over the Reds.

Russell's longball off of Josh Smith in the sixth inning capped off the Cubs' scoring at 10, which was more than enough. He also started the scoring with an RBI single. Willson Contreras and Kris Bryant also went deep for the Cubbies, as they piled up 12 hits and drew six walks. Russell's .238/.336/.392 batting line has been disappointing, but he's on pace for 18 homers and 89 RBI.
Jul 4 - 5:36 PM

Addison Russell is absent from the Cubs' lineup Sunday.

It's a routine day off. Javier Baez is handling shortstop in Russell's place.
Jul 3 - 9:58 AM

Addison Russell slugged a solo homer against the Reds on Wednesday.

Russell finished the afternoon 1-for-3 with a walk. With a .236/.331/.388 batting line, the 22-year-old hasn’t taken the leap forward many fantasy owners were hoping for this season, but he’s up to eight homers and 41 RBI through 72 games. He’s obviously in a great spot to continue to amass fantasy value.
Jun 29 - 4:11 PM

Addison Russell is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Reds.

He's presumably getting a breather. Javier Baez will start at shortstop and bat sixth.
Jun 28 - 2:28 PM

Addison Russell hit a three-run home run in a loss to the Marlins on Saturday.

The homer was Russell's seventh of the year, giving him 40 RBI and 29 runs scored. The second-year shortstop is batting .245/.338/.392 in 68 games this season.
Jun 25 - 8:35 PM

Addison Russell went 0-for-4 on Monday and is batting .170 in 53 at-bats this month.

Russell is leading the NL All-Star balloting at shortstop, but it doesn't seem warranted at this point. His OPS peaked at .822 on May 14, but it stands at .688 right now. He's in no danger of losing his job, but he could be rested more frequently until his slump concludes.
Jun 20 - 11:20 PM

Addison Russell smacked a solo homer in Monday's loss to the Nationals.

Russell's blast with one out in the sixth inning broke up Max Scherzer's perfect game. However, an Anthony Rizzo double in the seventh is the only other hit they were able to muster in the game. It was Russell's first longball since May 14 and his fifth on the season.
Jun 13 - 10:08 PM

Addison Russell is not in the Cubs' lineup Sunday.

It's a simple day of rest. Javier Baez is at shortstop.
