Addison Russell had an RBI single and a run scored in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

After sitting in the first game of the day, Russell found a way to contribute in the nightcap. His RBI single in the seventh inning tied the game, and he scored later in the inning. Despite the highlights, he finished 1-for-3 and has just three hits in his last 37 at-bats. The Cubs surely won't give up on their 21-year-old second baseman, but his .227/.291/.356 line is hard to stomach for the time being.

Addison Russell is not in the starting lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

Jonathan Herrera will start at second base and bat ninth. Russell is currently mired in a 2-for-34 slump, but he figures to play in the second game.
Jul 7 - 11:06 AM

Cubs manager Joe Maddon issued a vote of confidence for struggling second baseman Addison Russell.

Russell's going through a major slump right now and has just two hits in his last 31 at-bats. Joe Maddon didn't seem worried when asked about the 22-year-old, though, saying "I think he looks good at the plate" and professing confidence that Russell will snap out of the slump soon enough. He's hitting .229/.294/.361 this season.

Jun 7 - 12:45 PM

Addison Russell blasted his fourth home run of the season in a losing effort against the Royals on Friday.

His solo shot off Kelvin Herrera tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh inning, but wound up being the extent of the Cubs offense. He also doubled in the contest, finishing the day 2-for-4. Russell is now hitting .260/.305/.455 with four homers and 14 RBI in his limited time in the big leagues.
May 29 - 9:33 PM

Addison Russell delivered a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the Cubs to a win against the Nationals on Tuesday.

Russell finished 3-for-4 on the night. The Cubs had a runner on second base and two outs in the bottom of the ninth when Russell ripped a double to right-center off of reliever Matt Grace. Russell now has 11 doubles on the season and is batting .252/.301/.426 with three home runs and 13 RBI.

May 24 - 1:13 PM

Addison Russell went 2-for-4 with a solo homer on Thursday in a win against the Padres.

The seventh inning blast off Dale Thayer provided an insurance run in the 3-0 triumph. Slowly but surely, Russell is getting up to speed. The 21-year-old rookie slashed .179/.207/.286 in 28 April at-bats (14/1 K/BB rate) after his promotion, but now boasts a May OPS over .800. He has drawn four walks in the past six games after taking only three in his first 21.
May 21 - 11:49 PM

Addison Russell went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals.

Russell hit a couple balls hard, barely missing a home run off Tyler Lyons in the Cubs' three-run fifth inning. He's got a modest eight-game hitting streak going, raising his line to .261/.292/.500. The 21-year-old is ultra-talented and shouldn't toil at the bottom of Cubs manager Joe Maddon's lineup card for long.
May 6 - 1:01 AM

Addison Russell clubbed a solo home run in the ninth inning, but it was just barely not enough as the Cubs were beat by the slimmest of margins by the Cardinals on Monday.

The Cubs entered the ninth down 10-8. With two outs, Russell belted a solo home run to left-center off of Seth Maness, but it couldn't spark anything else. Russell has hit safely in nine of 11 games since his promotion, but has a meager .233/.250/.442 triple-slash line with two home runs and seven RBI.
May 5 - 12:00 AM

Addison Russell belted a solo home run in Friday's victory over the Brewers.

Russell struck out in his other two plate appearances, but his drive over the left-center field wall in the third inning represented the only scoring of the game. The young infielder is hitting just .194/.219/.387 in the early going and batting in the No. 9 spot is unappealing for fantasy owners, but the upside obviously remains.
May 1 - 5:35 PM

Cubs purchased the contract of INF Addison Russell from Triple-A Iowa.

Russell will play second base and bat ninth in his major league debut Tuesday night against the Pirates. He doesn't have a lot of experience at the position, but Tommy la Stella (oblique) is on the DL and the Cubs believe he can be an upgrade over Jonathan Herrera and Arismendy Alcantara. The 21-year-old posted a .301/.377/.520 batting line in the minors and is regarded as one of the top prospects in the game. Exciting times in Chicago.
Apr 21 - 3:34 PM

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Cubs plan to call up infield prospect Addison Russell.

Russell has played just five games at second base, but the Cubs have apparently seen enough that they think he's ready to help at the position in the majors. It certainly wouldn't be hard for him to represent an upgrade, as journeyman Jonathan Herrera has been seeing most of the playing time there of late. Russell is just 21, but he's a career .301/.377/.520 hitter so far in the minors and the consensus among scouts is that his bat his major league-ready. He needs to be owned in all fantasy leagues.
