Jarred Cosart was tagged for five runs in 4 2/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Rays.
This was mostly a lost year for Cosart, though his major league results weren't quite disastrous (2-5, 4.52 ERA in 69 2/3 innings). The Marlins intend to add pitching this winter, and they might put Cosart on the block and see if anyone else wants to take a chance on him. If he sticks around, he'd still have to enter spring training with the strong likelihood of a rotation spot. He's just 25, and his career ERA is 3.54 in 53 starts. Sep 30 - 10:19 PM

Jarred Cosart is listed as day-to-day after being diagnosed with a left arm contusion.

He was forced to leave Thursday's start after four scoreless innings after he was hit on the wrist by a line drive off the bat of Cody Asche. It sounds as though he should be good to go for his next scheduled start.

Jarred Cosart was forced to leave Thursday's start against the Phillies after getting drilled in the wrist by a line drive off the bat of Cody Asche.

He remained in the game to finish the fourth inning, but was lifted before the start of the following frame. Before departing, Cosart allowed four hits over four scoreless innings. He'll presumably head for X-rays to see if there's any structural damage. Expect an update from the Marlins after the game.
Sep 24 - 8:55 PM

Jarred Cosart won for the first time since April after holding the Nationals to two runs and three hits in six innings Thursday.

Cosart has pitched pretty well in his three starts since returning from the minors, giving him something to build on in what seemed to be a lost year. The Marlins are expected to pursue starting pitching this winter, but they'll want Cosart in next year's rotation if he's healthy.
Sep 17 - 11:08 PM

Jarred Cosart fired five scoreless innings against the Nationals on Friday.

Cosart gave up four hits (all of them singles) and three walks while striking out five batters. He was pulled after throwing 90 pitches. Cosart has now allowed just one run in 9 2/3 innings over his first two starts since coming off the disabled list. It's been a frustrating year for him, but he's finishing strong.
Sep 11 - 10:03 PM

Jarred Cosart, making his first start since July 4, got a no-decision after limiting the Mets to one run in 4 2/3 innings in Sunday's win.

Cosart had been out two months due to an inner-ear disorder. He threw 88 pitches on Sunday, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out three. Now with 10 starts on the year, Cosart has a 5.04 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP and a 32/21 K/BB ratio over 50 innings. He'll face the Nationals in a home outing next.
Sep 6 - 4:41 PM

Marlins recalled RHP Jarred Cosart from Triple-A New Orleans.

Cosart has been free of vertigo symptoms for a while now and should rejoin the Marlins' rotation. He holds a 5.36 ERA over nine appearances -- eight starts -- this season.
Sep 4 - 1:18 PM

Jarred Cosart allowed four runs on five hits over five innings of work Thursday with High-A Jupiter.

Cosart surrendered five hits on the night while walking one and striking out four. He has been sidelined since early July with an inner-ear disorder, but is finally making tangible strides toward a return to the big league rotation. He should be ready to roll at some point in early September.
Aug 27 - 8:44 PM

Jarred Cosart (ear) is scheduled to start Thursday with High-A Jupiter and throw 60-65 pitches.

Cosart has been shut down since having a setback with an inner-ear disorder in July. The Marlins are hoping to get him back in their rotation in September.

Jarred Cosart (ear) will resume a throwing program on Friday.

Cosart is battling an inner-ear ailment that has led to vertigo on a few occasions this season. He saw a specialist this week and is doing much better, with a return to the Marlins' rotation before the end of the month a possibility. "Now it's a matter of building him back up," said manager Dan Jennings." It would be great if it is some time in August, because we could use the depth there."
Aug 7 - 10:28 AM

Jarred Cosart (inner ear disorder) is scheduled to see a specialist this week in Chicago.

Cosart landed on the disabled list in May due to vertigo and had a setback last month. The inner-ear disorder is on his right side and has impacted his "balance and gravity," but he's currently taking medication and has been throwing in recent days. More should be known this week, but he's hoping to be an option for the Marlins later this month or in September.
Aug 4 - 10:24 AM

Jarred Cosart (vertigo) remains shut down at Triple-A New Orleans.

Cosart had a recurrence of vertigo earlier this month and it's unclear when he'll be ready to return to the mound. "He actually is having one final evaluation and then the medication will begin," Marlins manager Dan Jennings said. "Hopefully they've now identified everything that was causing the situation."
Jul 29 - 10:39 AM

Jarred Cosart was forced to leave Friday's start for Triple-A New Orleans due to vertigo.

Cosart has been battling the illness for awhile now, and it's becoming worrisome that it could be a chronic condition. The Marlins should have an update on his status shortly.
Jul 17 - 8:55 PM

Marlins optioned RHP Jarred Cosart to Triple-A New Orleans.

Cosart got lit up for seven runs in just 1 2/3 innings Saturday against the Cubs. He's 0-3 with a 9.00 ERA over his last five outings and may need a change of scenery. Michael Morse will take Cosart's roster spot Sunday when he comes off the disabled list.
Jul 4 - 10:27 PM

Jarred Cosart struggled mightily in Saturday's loss to the Cubs, serving up seven runs on four hits in just 1 2/3 innings.

Cosart was making his first start since early May, as he's been on the shelf with a hamstring injury and bout of vertigo. Kris Bryant welcomed him back with fireworks. Bryant socked a two-run homer in the first inning, then unloaded for a grand slam in the second. Prior to the slam, Cosart also walked in a run with the bases loaded. The 25-year-old righty held a 4.12 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 27/17 K/BB ratio over 43 2/3 innings prior to re-entering the Marlin rotation. Those numbers obviously took a dive after the Kris Bryant Show, but it's reasonable to expect an adjustment period. He'll try to work his way back from this debacle when he faces the Reds in a home start next time he toes the rubber.
