Marlins placed RHP Jarred Cosart on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 14, with vertigo.
It's unclear when Cosart began feeling the symptoms, but obviously the Marlins didn't think he'd be ready to start soon. He also left his last outing with a minor hamstring injury, so at least this will allow more time for that to heal. Tom Koehler will take Cosart's spot in the rotation. May 18 - 10:49 PM

Jarred Cosart (hamstring) has been cleared to start on Tuesday against the Diamondbacks after getting through a bullpen session Saturday with no issues.

Cosart had to exit his last outing with a cramp in his right hamstring, but he's fine. The righty holds a 4.08 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over seven starts this season.
May 17 - 10:26 AM

Marlins manager Mike Redmond said Friday that Jarred Cosart's right hamstring issue is more of a cramp.

Cosart was pulled from his last outing with the issue, but it sounds like it's minor. He'll have a shot to make his next start, but the Marlins won't know for sure until after he throws his regular between-starts bullpen session on Saturday.
May 15 - 4:19 PM

Jarred Cosart underwent an MRI on his ailing right hamstring.

Cosart tweaked the hamstring during his start Wednesday and the Marlins are still waiting to receive the results. Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) is poised to rejoin the rotation any day now and could wind up sliding into Cosart's spot.
May 15 - 3:28 PM

Jarred Cosart left Wednesday's start against the Dodgers with a tight right hamstring.

Cosart was seen hobbling around after allowing a single in the sixth inning, and he left with trainers before throwing another pitch. The team hasn't indicated the severity of the injury, so it's unclear how long he might be sidelined. It may be a good time for Henderson Alvarez to be nearing a return.
May 13 - 9:56 PM

Jarred Cosart left Wednesday's start against the Dodgers with an undisclosed injury.

The right-hander was visited by Marlins manager Mike Redmond and the training staff after giving up a sixth-inning single to Alex Guerrero. He appeared to be limping, suggesting a lower-body injury of some sort. Cosart allowed four runs over 5 1/3 innings before exiting. The Marlins should update his situation shortly.
May 13 - 9:42 PM

Jarred Cosart gave up four runs in four innings Friday in a loss to the Giants on Friday.

Cosart has pitched well in three of his six starts, but the Marlins are 1-5 with him on the mound this season. He has his toughest assignment yet coming up next week against the Dodgers.
May 9 - 1:39 AM

Jarred Cosart picked up a loss on Sunday versus the Phillies after allowing three runs in five-plus innings.

Cosart dominated his former team back on April 22 but the Phillies had him better figured out on Sunday, particularly towards the end of his start. After Cosart hit Darin Ruf with a pitch to start the sixth inning, Ryan Howard tripled and Grady Sizemore singled to bring in two runs to put the Phillies up 3-1 and end Cosart's night. Overall, the right-hander gave up five hits and walked one while striking out six. His numbers on the season are still quite good, sporting a 2.97 ERA, a 0.96 WHIP, and an 18/8 K/BB ratio in 30 1/3 innings. Cosart will look to get back in the win column in a road start versus the Giants next.
May 3 - 4:02 PM

Jarred Cosart was terrific in Monday's start against the Mets, tossing eight shutout innings, but got a no-decision in the Marlins' loss.

Cosart and opposing starter Dillon Gee were trading zeroes for nearly eight innings. If Steve Cishek hadn't blown the save, Cosart would have deservedly earned a win for his outing. He limited the Mets to just two hits while walking three and striking out two. Despite a mediocre 13/6 K/BB ratio in 25 1/3 innings, Cosart has a solid 2.49 ERA and he'll stand a decent chance of lowering it further as his next start comes at home versus the Phillies.
Apr 27 - 9:14 PM

Jarred Cosart held the Phillies to one run over six innings in a win on Wednesday.

Cosart, facing the team that drafted him, limited the Phillies to four hits while issuing zero walks and striking out four. The only mistake he made came in the second inning when Cody Asche ripped a solo home run to right field. He was fortunate that the Phillies fell apart in the later innings, allowing him to sneak away with a win in what was a low-scoring affair. Cosart, now 1-1, will take his 3.63 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 10/4 K/BB ratio in 17 1/3 innings into a home start next week against the Mets.
Apr 22 - 10:07 PM

Jarred Cosart wasn't involved in the decision after giving up five runs in 5 1/3 innings Thursday versus the Mets.

Cosart had a 1/3 K/BB ratio in limiting the Rays to one run in six innings his first time out. Tonight, he had a 5/1 K/BB ratio and got roughed up, with the Mets breaking out for three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. Cosart is a fantasy option solely in NL-only leagues.
Apr 16 - 10:31 PM

Jarred Cosart tossed six innings of one-run ball in a loss to the Rays on Saturday.

Cosart pitched well enough to deserve a win, but the Miami offense couldn't figure out Rays starter Chris Archer. Cosart struck out one and walked three over his six frames. He'll get the Mets on the road next.
Apr 11 - 6:51 PM

Jarred Cosart has been fined but not suspended by Major League Baseball for illegal gambling.

MLB noted in their press release that Cosart "fully cooperated with the investigation," which "did not reveal any evidence" to suggest that the pitcher bet on baseball. The matter is now considered closed.
Apr 3 - 4:13 PM

Jarred Cosart limited the Nationals to one hit over six scoreless innings on Wednesday.

Cosart entered the day with an 8.49 ERA and a 7/8 K/BB ratio in 11 2/3 innings, so he needed this. The reported investigation into Cosart's possible gamble habits doesn't look like it will interfere with him opening the season as scheduled.
Apr 1 - 4:02 PM

Jarred Cosart has a blister on his pitching hand and will not make his scheduled start Friday.

Cosart is currently being investigated by Major League Baseball after a person on Twitter revealed direct messages with the right-hander (or somebody claiming to be him) that contained boasts of past gambling activity. That investigation may have something to do with the sudden Grapefruit League scratch.
