Jarred Cosart got a no-decision on Sunday, yielding four runs (three earned) over five innings against the White Sox on Sunday.
Sunday's outing was certainly an improvement over his last two, when he allowed six runs each. Against the White Sox, he allowed seven hits, four walks, and struck out four. Cosart has been inconsistent and now sports a 4.23 ERA with a 1.44 WHIP and a 71/47 K/BB ratio. He'll try to get back on the right path when he takes on the Marlins at home over the weekend. Jarred Cosart (blister) threw a bullpen session Thursday with no issues and has been cleared to start Sunday against the White Sox.

Cosart was dealing with a blister issue prior to the All-Star break, but it apparently healed after a few days off. The young right-hander has put up a 4.17 ERA over 18 starts for the Astros this season.
Jul 17 - 6:58 PM

Jarred Cosart was knocked around by the Mariners on Tuesday, allowing six runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings in the loss.

Cosart also walked more batters than he struck out, fanning three while issuing four free passes. The loss came after Cosart had rattled off four straight wins, as Tuesday's outing was the first time he'd allowed more than three runs in a start since April 18. Even with the poor start, the 24-year-old is 8-6 with a 3.93 ERA through 17 starts on the year. He'll try to get back in the win column Sunday at the Angels.
Jul 1 - 11:55 PM

Jarred Cosart won a fourth straight start by limiting the Braves to one run in seven innings on Thursday.

Those last three wins have come with a total of six strikeouts in 22 innings. Cosart has a strong groundball rate and his command is improving every month, it seems, but it's still going to be a tough thing for him to maintain a sub-4.00 ERA when he relies so much on his defense. Regardless, the current streak is worth enjoying. He and Dallas Keuchel are both now 8-5 this season, giving the Astros two pitchers with more wins than their 2013 team leader (Jordan Lyles went 7-9).
Jun 26 - 5:26 PM

Jarred Cosart fired eight scoreless innings in Friday's 3-1 win over the Rays.

Cosart took advantage of a struggling Tampa Bay offense to make his longest start of the year. He scattered six hits (all of them singles) while walking one and striking out a pair. The young right-hander has now allowed three earned runs or fewer in 11 consecutive starts and owns a solid 3.78 ERA on the year. While he struggled with his control early on in the season, he has walked two batters or fewer in each of his last five starts. He'll try to keep the momentum going next week against the Braves at home.
Jun 20 - 10:23 PM

Jarred Cosart struck out eight and held the Diamondbacks to three runs on five hits over six innings Monday in a Houston win.

Cosart matched his season high for strikeouts, done most recently last time out against the Angels. This was the ninth straight start in which Cosart has allowed three runs or fewer, though he improved to just 4-3 in that span tonight. He evens his overall record to 5-5 to go with a 4.19 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. Cosart has a matinee in Houston on Saturday against Chris Archer and the Rays.
Jun 10 - 12:54 AM

Jarred Cosart allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings and struck out eight in a no-decision Wednesday against the Angels.

The eight strikeouts matched a season high, and it was the eighth straight start in which Cosart has allowed three runs or fewer. Unfortunately, he's just 3-3 during that span.
Jun 4 - 11:58 PM

Jarred Cosart held the Royals to two runs -- one earned -- over five innings Wednesday in a Houston win.

It finished off a three-game sweep for the Astros, who have now won five straight games. Cosart struck out just one batter, but he limited the Kansas City to two doubles and two singles while moving to 4-4 on the season. A start against the Angels is next.
May 28 - 5:48 PM

Jarred Cosart allowed three runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings in a setback against the Mariners on Thursday.

Cosart walked four and struck out six in the loss. The right-hander has been reliable enough to have uses in some AL-only formats, allowing more than three runs just twice in 10 starts. He's 3-4 with a 4.39 ERA and 1.39 WHIP, numbers he'll take into a matchup against the Royals in Kansas City next week.
May 23 - 1:22 AM

Jarred Cosart allowed two runs on eight hits over six innings in a win over the Orioles on Sunday.

Cosart walked two and struck out three in the victory. He has now gone four straight starts of at least six innings pitched with two runs or fewer allowed. As a result, he's lowered his ERA from 7.36 to 4.30 over those starts. He'll try to keep it going Saturday when he faces the White Sox.
May 11 - 5:05 PM

Jarred Cosart suffered a tough luck loss at the hand of the Tigers on Monday, allowing just an unearned run on four hits over seven strong innings.

Cosart walked three and struck out three on the evening. Nick Castellanos reached on an error to start the seventh inning, and after a walk and a sacrifice bunt, scampered home on an RBI single by Rajai Davis. Now 1-3 on the young season, Cosart will carry a 4.50 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 28/18 K/BB ratio into Saturday’s start against the Orioles in Baltimore.
May 5 - 10:02 PM

Jarred Cosart allowed two runs on five hits over six innings but settled for a no-decision against the Nationals on Tuesday.

Cosart walked two and struck out six, leaving with the lead before the Nationals got to the Astros' bullpen. Home runs remain an issue for the right-hander -- after Jayson Werth's first inning shot, Cosart has now served up five home runs in six starts. He's got a tough date at the Tigers on Monday.
Apr 29 - 11:42 PM

Jarred Cosart lasted just one-third of an inning and gave up seven runs in an ugly loss to the A's on Friday.

Cosart walked four and gave up two homers before being pulled. It was quite a massacre for a guy who entered with a 2.42 ERA in 13 big-league starts. He had allowed just four homers in 78 innings dating back to his callup last season. We're not very high on Cosart for fantasy purposes this year, but hopefully this will go down as an isolated incident.
Apr 19 - 1:42 AM

Jarred Cosart yielded three earned runs over seven innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Rangers.

Cosart racked up eight strikeouts and showed improved control, but the Rangers' offense got to him for runs in the first, second, and fourth innings. Cosart will bring a 4.00 ERA into his next outing on the road in Oakland.
Apr 12 - 11:39 PM

Jarred Cosart was shaky in Monday's loss to the Angels, allowing five runs on three hits and four walks over six innings.

Cosart managed to get through his first start of the season without walking anyone, but his lack of control showed up in this one. The hard-throwing right-hander now sports an unsightly 40/39 K/BB ratio over his first 12 major league outings. Cosart will try to right the ship this weekend in Texas in a tough matchup.
