Jarred Cosart has undergone an MRI and X-ray on his right elbow.
Cosart exited Saturday's start versus the Giants with what the Padres think is a bone spur in the righty's elbow. He's almost surely done for the season. Cosart holds an ugly 6.00 ERA over 13 starts this season. Sep 25 - 3:18 PM

Jarred Cosart (elbow) left Saturday's game against the Giants with right elbow inflammation.

He didn't look right from the start, allowing three hits, two walks and three earned runs before exiting with two outs in the first inning. Only 13 of his 28 pitches went for strikes. With only a week left in the regular season, it's likely that Cosart has thrown his final pitch of 2016. The right-hander is winless in 13 starts with a 6.04 ERA.
Sep 24 - 10:34 PM

Jarred Cosart was hit hard in a losing effort against the Rockies at Coors Field on Sunday, allowing five runs on five hits in 3 2/3 innings.

The right-hander walked four and struck out four in the ballgame. He navigated through the first three innings without any difficulty, but the Rockies broke through with five runs in the fourth to chase him, including a two-run homer by Mark Reynolds. Cosart will continue to take his turn in the rotation despite a very disappointing 5.63 ERA and 1.70 WHIP. He should be ignored for Saturday's start against the Giants.
Sep 18 - 7:32 PM

Jarred Cosart (hamstring, groin) is expected to only miss one start.

It looked like Cosart's season might be over when he suffered groin and hamstring strains Wednesday against Boston, but now he could be back within the week. Cosart hasn't done much to inspire confidence this year, but he's done enough to at least maintain a rotation spot as the Padres look to rebuild following a series of high-profile trades.
Sep 10 - 7:21 PM

Jarred Cosart (hamstring, groin) admitted Thursday that he's "unlikely" to make his next scheduled start.

Cosart suffered a strained right hamstring and a strained right groin on a play at first base during Wednesday's start. He thinks he'll return this season but isn't sure at this point when that will happen. "I think tomorrow will be more of a day where I can really give an honest opinion as far as how soon I can get on a mound," Cosart said. "I'm optimistic today. I'm going to pitch again this year. I'm going to make sure of that."
Sep 9 - 9:51 AM

Updating an earlier report, Jarred Cosart left Wednesday's game against the Red Sox with a strained right hamstring and a strained right groin.

He suffered the injuries while covering first base in the fourth inning. It's hard to envision Cosart making his next start and with only a few weeks left in the season, there's a good chance the Padres will go ahead and shut him down. The 26-year-old sports a 5.16 ERA over 11 big-league outings this year.
Sep 7 - 11:21 PM

Jarred Cosart left Wednesday's start against the Red Sox after jamming his ankle on a play at first base.

He came down awkwardly covering first on an errant throw by Wil Myers. Cosart scattered two hits and three runs (two earned) over 3 1/3 innings before exiting. The Padres should update his status later tonight, so stay tuned.
Sep 7 - 10:34 PM

Jarred Cosart was pounded for seven runs in 4 1/3 innings by the Braves on Thursday.

Cosart had pitched well in three straight starts before getting lit up today by a Braves team that has been hitting quite well of late. He doesn't seem likely to bounce back with the Red Sox next on the schedule.
Sep 1 - 3:25 PM

Jarred Cosart allowed two runs (one earned) in five innings in a no-decision against the Marlins on Friday.

Facing his former team, Cosart gave up five hits and walked a pair while striking out three. He left the game in position for the victory, but the bullpen coughed up the lead in the eighth and the Marlins went on to win the game in the ninth. Cosart has allowed one earned run or fewer in three straight starts, but he’s still in search for his first win this season. Maybe next time. He lines up for a start against the Dodgers next week.
Aug 27 - 12:19 AM

Jarred Cosart limited the Mets to one run on three hits over six innings Saturday.

The right-hander gave up three singles and walked two on the evening, striking out two as well. Unfortunately for Cosart, his offense didn't give him much backing, leaving him with a no-decision. Cosart has now pitched relatively well in two of his three starts as a member of the Padres. He'll carry a 5.03 ERA and 1.68 WHIP -- accumulated in just seven starts this year -- into Thursday's start against the Diamondbacks.
Aug 13 - 11:46 PM

Jarred Cosart struggled in Sunday's no-decision against the Phillies, allowing five runs on 10 hits over five frames.

The right-hander struck out five and didn't walk a batter in the ballgame. He allowed a leadoff solo homer to Odubel Herrera and it didn't get much better for him afterwards. Given the sad state of the Padres rotation, he's likely to continue occupying a spot, though his fantasy value is very minimal. He'll take on the Mets in New York his next time out on Saturday.
Aug 7 - 9:47 PM

Jarred Cosart dealt with a blister during his Padres debut Monday against the Brewers.

Cosart had an eventful debut, allowing just one hit over 3 1/3 scoreless innings, but he walked six batters and threw just 34 out of 77 pitches for strikes. The blister was undoubtedly a factor, but he remains hopeful of making his next start. "I don’t think it’s going to be too much of an issue going forward," said Cosart. "Hopefully we get it taken care of and get ready for the Phillies on Sunday."
Aug 2 - 2:28 PM

Making his first start for the Padres, Jarred Cosart walked six over 3 1/3 shutout frames against the Brewers.

Cosart came over from the Marlins as part of the Andrew Cashner trade on Friday. As the saying goes, you only get one chance to make a first impression and Cosart's was a decidedly weird one. The Brewers managed just one hit against him (and no runs), but he also walked six and threw just 34 of his 77 pitches for strikes. Weird. The 26-year-old right-hander spent a large chunk of the 2016 season at Triple-A before the trade, with Sunday's start just his fifth of the season. Through 23 innings, Cosart has allowed 14 runs. His last 8 1/3 frames have been scoreless, though Monday's shutout effort was somewhat marred by his walk-happy ways. A home date with the Phillies shows next on his schedule.
Aug 2 - 1:59 AM

Padres acquired RHPs Jarred Cosart, Carter Capps and Luis Castillo and 1B Josh Naylor from the Marlins in exchange for RHPs Andrew Cashner, Colin Rea, Tayron Guerrero and cash considerations.

Cosart is a formerly a nice prospect but is a couple years removed from any amount of success. He'll be arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter and will try to get his career back on track in a new organization. He figures to join the Padres' rotation.
Jul 29 - 1:34 PM

ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that Jarred Cosart is one of the pieces headed to San Diego in the Andrew Cashner/Colin Rea trade.

It looks like we have all the details of the deal now, as Cashner and Rea will go to Miami and Cosart, first base prospect Josh Naylor and pitching prospect Luis Castillo will be sent to San Diego. Cosart was once a decent prospect but has flamed out the last couple seasons and been particularly awful this year with a 5.95 ERA in the majors and poor numbers at Triple-A, as well. He'll be arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter.
