Jarred Cosart was tagged for six runs in 4 1/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Giants.

A week ago, it was a given that Tom Koehler would be the pitcher pulled from the Marlins rotation if the often-antsy team wanted to make a change. Now, though, Cosart seems more likely to be the choice. He walked six (two intentionally) and struck out just one tonight, and his ERA is up to 7.98.
Apr 23 - 1:35 AM

Jarred Cosart had issues hitting the strike zone in earning Sunday's no-decision against the Braves, walking six while allowing five runs (four earned) over 5 2/3 innings.

Cosart allowed just four hits while striking out four, but this was not an inspiring outing by any stretch of the imagination. All four runs against him came home in the first inning, with the key blow coming courtesy of a three-run double by Jace Peterson. Injuries limited the 25-year-old Cosart to just 69 2/3 innings (13 starts) in 2015. Showing next on his schedule, a road outing against the Giants.
Apr 17 - 4:46 PM

Jarred Cosart lasted just 4 2/3 innings Monday, allowing three runs in a 10-3 win over the Mets.

The Marlins gift-wrapped a victory for Cosart in pummeling Steven Matz for seven runs in the second inning, but the righty was unable to take advantage. He needed 101 pitches to cover the 4 2/3 frames before manager Don Mattingly finally decided enough was enough and pulled Cosart. He'll try for better results this weekend versus the Braves at home.
Apr 11 - 11:31 PM

Jarred Cosart threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings Monday as the Marlins edged the Mets 2-1.

Cosart allowed three hits, walked two and struck out four. He's yet to allow a run in 9 2/3 innings this spring. If last year's struggles had his rotation spot in any danger this spring, he's back on steady ground now.
Mar 21 - 4:54 PM

Jarred Cosart pitched three scoreless innings Wednesday in relief against the Nationals.

Cosart is still just a little behind because of bruised knee suffered in his first spring start, but he should be ready to open up as the Marlins' fourth or fifth starter.
Mar 16 - 3:46 PM

Jarred Cosart threw two scoreless innings Friday in the Marlins' 6-5 defeat of the Twins.

Cosart left his first start with a bruised knee and was pushed back a couple of days as a result. He's likely to occupy the fourth or fifth spot in Miami's rotation at the beginning of the season.
Mar 11 - 5:04 PM

Jarred Cosart (knee) could return to Grapefruit League action by the end of this week.

Cosart bruised his right knee and also has some soreness in his calf as a result of a collision at third base with Martin Prado on Friday. He's ultimately expected to be fine, though. "It sounded good," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "We'll still be cautious. We'll make sure that he's 100 percent before we send him back out there."
Mar 6 - 10:14 AM

An MRI on Jarred Cosart's right knee showed no structural damage.

Cosart was injured on Friday when he collided with third baseman Martin Prado. He's got a bruise on the knee and some soreness in his calf but should ultimately be fine. It's unclear at this point, however, whether he'll be ready for his next scheduled Grapefruit League appearance.
Mar 4 - 3:59 PM

Jarred Cosart left Friday's game with a right knee injury.

Cosart appeared to tweak the knee when he collided with third baseman Martin Prado. He stayed in the game to finish the inning but then walked off the field gingerly and went into the clubhouse. The fact that he was able to stay in initially suggests that the ailment isn't serious, but the Marlins are checking the knee out just in case and should have more on Cosart's status later Friday.
Mar 4 - 1:58 PM

Jarred Cosart was tagged for five runs in 4 2/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Rays.

This was mostly a lost year for Cosart, though his major league results weren't quite disastrous (2-5, 4.52 ERA in 69 2/3 innings). The Marlins intend to add pitching this winter, and they might put Cosart on the block and see if anyone else wants to take a chance on him. If he sticks around, he'd still have to enter spring training with the strong likelihood of a rotation spot. He's just 25, and his career ERA is 3.54 in 53 starts.

Jarred Cosart is listed as day-to-day after being diagnosed with a left arm contusion.

He was forced to leave Thursday's start after four scoreless innings after he was hit on the wrist by a line drive off the bat of Cody Asche. It sounds as though he should be good to go for his next scheduled start.

Jarred Cosart was forced to leave Thursday's start against the Phillies after getting drilled in the wrist by a line drive off the bat of Cody Asche.

He remained in the game to finish the fourth inning, but was lifted before the start of the following frame. Before departing, Cosart allowed four hits over four scoreless innings. He'll presumably head for X-rays to see if there's any structural damage. Expect an update from the Marlins after the game.

Jarred Cosart won for the first time since April after holding the Nationals to two runs and three hits in six innings Thursday.

Cosart has pitched pretty well in his three starts since returning from the minors, giving him something to build on in what seemed to be a lost year. The Marlins are expected to pursue starting pitching this winter, but they'll want Cosart in next year's rotation if he's healthy.
Thu, Sep 17, 2015 11:08:00 PM

Jarred Cosart fired five scoreless innings against the Nationals on Friday.

Cosart gave up four hits (all of them singles) and three walks while striking out five batters. He was pulled after throwing 90 pitches. Cosart has now allowed just one run in 9 2/3 innings over his first two starts since coming off the disabled list. It's been a frustrating year for him, but he's finishing strong.
