X-rays taken on Jarred Cosart's foot after Wednesday's win over the Mets were negative.
Cosart was hit on the foot by a Michael Conforto liner in the first inning. He toughed it out for a few innings before being pulled with two outs in the third having allowed four runs. He is considered day-to-day moving forward. May 24 - 11:44 PM

Jarred Cosart let up five hits and one run over five innings of solid work Thursday in the Padres’ 4-2 loss to Milwaukee.

He walked one and struck out three. Cosart looked sharp in his return from a month-long hamstring injury, holding the Brewers scoreless until the fifth when Eric Sogard finally broke through for an RBI single. 49 of the right-hander’s 72 pitches went for strikes. Cosart handed San Diego’s bullpen the lead but Ryan Buchter squandered it by allowing a two-run double to Sogard in the seventh. The right-hander should get at least one more turn in the rotation with Trevor Cahill nursing a shoulder strain.
May 18 - 7:20 PM

Jarred Cosart will start against the Brewers on Thursday in place of Trevor Cahill (shoulder).

The Padres placed Cahill on the 10-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain on Wednesday. Cosart, himself, is fresh off the DL after finishing up his rehab from a strained hamstring. In three appearances (one relief, two starts) this season prior to going down injured, the 26-year-old Cosart holds a 3.24 ERA and 4/6 K/BB ratio over the course of 8 1/3 innings. He posted a 6.00 ERA in 13 starts last season and probably cannot be trusted for fantasy purposes, particularly given the fact that he has not pitched in a major league game since mid-April.
May 17 - 8:00 PM

Padres activated RHP Jarred Cosart from the 10-day disabled list.

Cosart missed nearly a month with a strained hamstring. He'll work in relief for now but could get another shot to start eventually given the state of the Padres' rotation.
May 14 - 11:11 AM

Jarred Cosart (hamstring) threw two scoreless innings Tuesday for High-A Lake Elsinore.

Cosart allowed two hits and a walk but no major damage. The right-hander looks poised to return to a bullpen role with San Diego, possibly by this weekend.
May 2 - 11:31 PM

Jarred Cosart (hamstring) will throw another bullpen session this weekend.

If it goes well, the Padres could decide to activate him. With Luis Perdomo back, Cosart seems likely to head back to the bullpen once activated.
Apr 28 - 11:15 AM

Padres placed RHP Jarred Cosart on the 10-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain.

Cosart strained his right hamstring in Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks. There is no current timetable for his recovery. The Padres have yet to announce who will take Cosart's place in the rotation, but regardless of whom fills in, there is unlikely to be any true fantasy relevance.
Apr 19 - 5:59 PM

Jarred Cosart suffered a right hamstring strain in his start Tuesday night against the Diamondbacks.

Cosart allowed three runs -- one earned -- over 3 2/3 innings before exiting. The right-hander is probably headed for the 10-day disabled list, and we probably won't recommend picking up his replacement in the Padres' patchwork rotation.
Apr 18 - 11:53 PM

Jarred Cosart shut out the Rockies for four innings in his spot start Monday.

Cosart, who was filling in for Trevor Cahill, scattered five hits in the 70-pitch outing. He's likely to make at least one more start before Cahill comes off the disabled list.
Apr 11 - 12:17 AM

Jarred Cosart will start for the Padres on Monday in place of the injured Trevor Cahill.

Cosart typically wouldn't be recommended as a fantasy option, even in the deepest of NL-only formats. The fact that he's pitching against the Rockies at Coors Field makes him an absolute avoid in all formats. Unless you're stacking against him in DFS, in that case, fire away.
Apr 9 - 8:29 PM

Jarred Cosart surrendered two earned runs in his four-inning Cactus League start Sunday against the Reds.

Cosart walked none and struck out two but gave up five hits, including back-to-back doubles to Desmond Jennings and Christian Walker in the top of the second. There are questions up and down the San Diego rotation, but Cosart figures to open the 2017 regular season in a long relief role.
Mar 19 - 6:23 PM

Jarred Cosart struck out two and walked one over one scoreless inning of work in his Cactus League debut against the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

Cosart underwent elbow surgery to remove loose bodies in his pitching arm back in October. After a winter of rehab, he looked no worse for the wear in his debut on Saturday. He could crack the starting rotation should injuries befell the Padres' staff, but given that he posted a 6.00 ERA in 13 starts between the Marlins and Padres last season, he is going to need a strong spring if he wants a realistic shot.
Mar 4 - 6:44 PM

The Padres announced Saturday that Jarred Cosart underwent successful surgery to remove loose bodies from his pitching elbow.

The bone spur in his elbow caused Cosart to miss his final two starts of the regular season. He'll be sidelined for the next six weeks before he's able to resume throwing. The club believes that he'll be fully recovered and ready to go for the start of spring training.

Padres manager Andy Green announced Friday that Jarred Cosart will undergo surgery next week to remove loose bodies from his elbow.

The right-hander had his 2016 campaign cut short due to inflammation caused by the bone spur in his pitching elbow. It's just a cleanup procedure, so Cosart should still be able to have a fairly normal offseason and should be fully healthy and ready to roll for spring training.

Jarred Cosart (elbow) will visit with a specialist on Tuesday.

Cosart is dealing with inflammation and what the Padres believe is a bone spur in his pitching elbow. It's possible he'll opt to have surgery to get it removed, although we should know more after Tuesday's exam. Cosart posted a 6.00 ERA over 13 starts this season.
