Jarred Cosart (ear) will resume a throwing program on Friday.

Cosart is battling an inner-ear ailment that has led to vertigo on a few occasions this season. He saw a specialist this week and is doing much better, with a return to the Marlins' rotation before the end of the month a possibility. "Now it's a matter of building him back up," said manager Dan Jennings." It would be great if it is some time in August, because we could use the depth there."

Jarred Cosart (inner ear disorder) is scheduled to see a specialist this week in Chicago.

Cosart landed on the disabled list in May due to vertigo and had a setback last month. The inner-ear disorder is on his right side and has impacted his "balance and gravity," but he's currently taking medication and has been throwing in recent days. More should be known this week, but he's hoping to be an option for the Marlins later this month or in September.

Jarred Cosart (vertigo) remains shut down at Triple-A New Orleans.

Cosart had a recurrence of vertigo earlier this month and it's unclear when he'll be ready to return to the mound. "He actually is having one final evaluation and then the medication will begin," Marlins manager Dan Jennings said. "Hopefully they've now identified everything that was causing the situation."
Jul 29 - 10:39 AM

Jarred Cosart was forced to leave Friday's start for Triple-A New Orleans due to vertigo.

Cosart has been battling the illness for awhile now, and it's becoming worrisome that it could be a chronic condition. The Marlins should have an update on his status shortly.
Jul 17 - 8:55 PM

Marlins optioned RHP Jarred Cosart to Triple-A New Orleans.

Cosart got lit up for seven runs in just 1 2/3 innings Saturday against the Cubs. He's 0-3 with a 9.00 ERA over his last five outings and may need a change of scenery. Michael Morse will take Cosart's roster spot Sunday when he comes off the disabled list.
Jul 4 - 10:27 PM

Jarred Cosart struggled mightily in Saturday's loss to the Cubs, serving up seven runs on four hits in just 1 2/3 innings.

Cosart was making his first start since early May, as he's been on the shelf with a hamstring injury and bout of vertigo. Kris Bryant welcomed him back with fireworks. Bryant socked a two-run homer in the first inning, then unloaded for a grand slam in the second. Prior to the slam, Cosart also walked in a run with the bases loaded. The 25-year-old righty held a 4.12 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 27/17 K/BB ratio over 43 2/3 innings prior to re-entering the Marlin rotation. Those numbers obviously took a dive after the Kris Bryant Show, but it's reasonable to expect an adjustment period. He'll try to work his way back from this debacle when he faces the Reds in a home start next time he toes the rubber.
Jul 4 - 9:58 PM

Jarred Cosart will return to the Marlins' rotation on Saturday night against the Cubs.

Jose Urena is probably going to get the boot. Cosart returned from a battle with vertigo last week after sitting out for over a month. The 25-year-old right-hander owns a 4.12 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 27/17 K/BB ratio in 43 2/3 innings this season for the Fish.
Jul 1 - 5:00 PM

Marlins activated RHP Jarred Cosart from the 15-day disabled list.

Cosart will rejoin the Marlins on Thursday night after missing over a month with vertigo symptoms. The right-hander is going to pitch out of the bullpen initially.
Jun 25 - 3:25 PM

Jarred Cosart (vertigo) will be activated on Thursday and pitch out of the bullpen initially.

Dan Haren has been slated to start in Thursday's series finale against the Cardinals and the Marlins don't want to mess with his schedule. Cosart should move back into the rotation in a week or two. He has been sidelined since mid-May with vertigo symptoms.
Jun 24 - 4:18 PM

Jarred Cosart (vertigo) could rejoin the Marlins' rotation as soon as Thursday.

Cosart went down with vertigo in mid-May but has made three rehab starts and not had any issues. Dan Haren is currently slated to start against the Cardinals on Thursday, but he could be pushed back to the weekend.
Jun 24 - 9:57 AM

Jarred Cosart (vertigo) will make a third minor league rehab start.

Cosart has posted a 4.91 ERA with a 7/2 K/BB ratio in 11 innings over two starts with Triple-A New Orleans, the latest coming on Tuesday. He'll likely rejoin the Marlins' rotation next week if all goes well. The right-hander has been out for just over a month due to vertigo symptoms.
Jun 18 - 5:27 PM

Jarred Cosart (vertigo) will make another rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A New Orleans.

If all goes well, Cosart should be cleared to rejoin the Marlins over the weekend. The right-hander has been on the shelf since May 13 due to vertigo symptoms.

Jun 15 - 10:56 AM

Jarred Cosart (vertigo) has been cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A New Orleans.

Cosart, out since May 13 with vertigo symptoms, allowed six runs over five innings in an extended spring training outing on Saturday. However, the important thing is that he's feeling good. It's unclear whether he'll only need one minor league rehab start before coming back.
