Jarred Cosart will make his Marlins' debut on Friday against the Reds.
He'll take the spot of Jacob Turner, who is presumably headed to the bullpen. Acquire via trade from the Astros on Thursday, Cosart holds a 4.41 ERA with just 75 strikeouts over 116 1/3 innings this season. He's not really an option in mixed leagues. Aug 1 - 11:12 AM

Marlins general manager Mike Hill said Thursday that Jarred Cosart could make his team debut as soon as Friday against the Reds.

It doesn't appear to be set in stone yet, but he would be on five days' rest that day. Jacob Turner is currently slated to start Friday, so he could be moved to the bullpen or to Triple-A.

Marlins acquired RHP Jarred Cosart, INF/OF Enrique Hernandez and OF Austin Wates from the Astros in exchange for OF Jake Marisnick, 3B Colin Moran, RHP Frances Martes and a 2015 compensation pick.

Cosart has posted a 3.57 ERA over his first 30 major league starts and is under control for a few more years, but his 4.13 FIP and 1.42 WHIP suggests that a regression is coming. He will at least get to pitch in a very pitcher-friendly park but isn't much of a fantasy option with his low strikeout rate.
Jul 31 - 4:47 PM's Brian McTaggart reports that the Marlins have acquired Jarred Cosart and Enrique Hernandez from the Astros.

Colin Moran, Jake Marisnick and a compensation pick are expected to head to the Astros in the deal. Cosart has posted a 3.57 ERA over his first 30 major league starts and is under control for a few more years, but Houston probably did well to sell him off for what was a nice return.
Jul 31 - 4:14 PM

Houston is "very, very busy" taking calls on Jarred Cosart, reports FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

The 24-year-old is 9-7 with a 4.41 ERA and will exit this season with just 1.070 years service time, leaving him under club control for years. The Astros will need to be presented with an offer they can't refuse, but GM Jeff Luhnow is apparently fishing hard.
Jul 31 - 11:18 AM

Jarred Cosart gave up five earned runs in 5 2/3 innings Saturday in the Astros' loss to the Marlins.

Cosart struggled right out of the gate, yielding a first-inning RBI single to Casey McGehee and then four runs in the second inning. He's really fallen off the rails lately, now with a 4.41 ERA and 1.46 WHIP on the year. A home start against the Blue Jays is next.
Jul 26 - 10:52 PM

Jarred Cosart got a no-decision on Sunday, yielding four runs (three earned) over five innings against the White Sox on Sunday.

Sunday's outing was certainly an improvement over his last two, when he allowed six runs each. Against the White Sox, he allowed seven hits, four walks, and struck out four. Cosart has been inconsistent and now sports a 4.23 ERA with a 1.44 WHIP and a 71/47 K/BB ratio. He'll try to get back on the right path when he takes on the Marlins at home over the weekend.
Jul 20 - 6:08 PM

Jarred Cosart (blister) threw a bullpen session Thursday with no issues and has been cleared to start Sunday against the White Sox.

Cosart was dealing with a blister issue prior to the All-Star break, but it apparently healed after a few days off. The young right-hander has put up a 4.17 ERA over 18 starts for the Astros this season.
Jul 17 - 6:58 PM

Jarred Cosart was knocked around by the Mariners on Tuesday, allowing six runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings in the loss.

Cosart also walked more batters than he struck out, fanning three while issuing four free passes. The loss came after Cosart had rattled off four straight wins, as Tuesday's outing was the first time he'd allowed more than three runs in a start since April 18. Even with the poor start, the 24-year-old is 8-6 with a 3.93 ERA through 17 starts on the year. He'll try to get back in the win column Sunday at the Angels.
Jul 1 - 11:55 PM

Jarred Cosart won a fourth straight start by limiting the Braves to one run in seven innings on Thursday.

Those last three wins have come with a total of six strikeouts in 22 innings. Cosart has a strong groundball rate and his command is improving every month, it seems, but it's still going to be a tough thing for him to maintain a sub-4.00 ERA when he relies so much on his defense. Regardless, the current streak is worth enjoying. He and Dallas Keuchel are both now 8-5 this season, giving the Astros two pitchers with more wins than their 2013 team leader (Jordan Lyles went 7-9).
Jun 26 - 5:26 PM

Jarred Cosart fired eight scoreless innings in Friday's 3-1 win over the Rays.

Cosart took advantage of a struggling Tampa Bay offense to make his longest start of the year. He scattered six hits (all of them singles) while walking one and striking out a pair. The young right-hander has now allowed three earned runs or fewer in 11 consecutive starts and owns a solid 3.78 ERA on the year. While he struggled with his control early on in the season, he has walked two batters or fewer in each of his last five starts. He'll try to keep the momentum going next week against the Braves at home.
Jun 20 - 10:23 PM

Jarred Cosart struck out eight and held the Diamondbacks to three runs on five hits over six innings Monday in a Houston win.

Cosart matched his season high for strikeouts, done most recently last time out against the Angels. This was the ninth straight start in which Cosart has allowed three runs or fewer, though he improved to just 4-3 in that span tonight. He evens his overall record to 5-5 to go with a 4.19 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. Cosart has a matinee in Houston on Saturday against Chris Archer and the Rays.
Jun 10 - 12:54 AM

Jarred Cosart allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings and struck out eight in a no-decision Wednesday against the Angels.

The eight strikeouts matched a season high, and it was the eighth straight start in which Cosart has allowed three runs or fewer. Unfortunately, he's just 3-3 during that span.
Jun 4 - 11:58 PM

Jarred Cosart held the Royals to two runs -- one earned -- over five innings Wednesday in a Houston win.

It finished off a three-game sweep for the Astros, who have now won five straight games. Cosart struck out just one batter, but he limited the Kansas City to two doubles and two singles while moving to 4-4 on the season. A start against the Angels is next.
May 28 - 5:48 PM

Jarred Cosart allowed three runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings in a setback against the Mariners on Thursday.

Cosart walked four and struck out six in the loss. The right-hander has been reliable enough to have uses in some AL-only formats, allowing more than three runs just twice in 10 starts. He's 3-4 with a 4.39 ERA and 1.39 WHIP, numbers he'll take into a matchup against the Royals in Kansas City next week.
