Jarred Cosart has elected free agency.

Cosart cleared waivers after being outrighted off the 40-man roster and has decided to exercise his right to free agency. The 27-year-old underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow back in July but will be 100 percent for spring training. Cosart holds a 5.14 ERA over the last three seasons and has an awful 248/199 K/BB ratio over 391 innings in the majors.

Padres transferred RHP Jarred Cosart to the 60-day disabled list.

That clears a spot on the 40-man roster for left-hander Kyle McGrath. Cosart underwent season-ending elbow surgery earlier this month. He logged a 4.88 ERA over seven outings including six starts this year.

Jarred Cosart underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow earlier this week.

It's a season-ending procedure for the 27-year-old right-hander, who finishes with a 4.88 ERA in six starts and one relief appearance. Cosart is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter.

Padres placed RHP Jarred Cosart on the 10-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.

Cosart has posted a 4.88 ERA and 1.88 WHIP in six starts and one relief appearance this season for San Diego. It's not clear how long he will be sidelined. The right-hander underwent surgery to remove a bone spur in this same elbow over the winter.

Jarred Cosart surrendered three runs on six hits over four-plus innings in Sunday's loss to the Rockies.

All three runs on Cosart's line came home in the fourth inning, when he surrendered a two-run single to Trevor Story and an RBI single to Tony Wolters. He would come back out for the fifth inning but was pulled after allowing the first two runners to reach. The 27-year-old right-hander will bring a 4.88 ERA and 1.88 WHIP into a home start against the Royals next time he takes to the mound.

Jarred Cosart allowed two earned runs over four innings Monday in a no-decision versus the Cubs.

Cosart gave up two runs on two walks, a hit-by-pitch, and a single in the top of the first inning, but he posted zeros over his next three frames and the Padres went on to win the game. The right-hander issued five walks in all and he gave up three hits. He'll carry a 4.50 ERA into his next start at home versus the Rockies.

X-rays taken on Jarred Cosart's foot after Wednesday's win over the Mets were negative.

Cosart was hit on the foot by a Michael Conforto liner in the first inning. He toughed it out for a few innings before being pulled with two outs in the third having allowed four runs. He is considered day-to-day moving forward.

Jarred Cosart let up five hits and one run over five innings of solid work Thursday in the Padres’ 4-2 loss to Milwaukee.

He walked one and struck out three. Cosart looked sharp in his return from a month-long hamstring injury, holding the Brewers scoreless until the fifth when Eric Sogard finally broke through for an RBI single. 49 of the right-hander’s 72 pitches went for strikes. Cosart handed San Diego’s bullpen the lead but Ryan Buchter squandered it by allowing a two-run double to Sogard in the seventh. The right-hander should get at least one more turn in the rotation with Trevor Cahill nursing a shoulder strain.

Jarred Cosart will start against the Brewers on Thursday in place of Trevor Cahill (shoulder).

The Padres placed Cahill on the 10-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain on Wednesday. Cosart, himself, is fresh off the DL after finishing up his rehab from a strained hamstring. In three appearances (one relief, two starts) this season prior to going down injured, the 26-year-old Cosart holds a 3.24 ERA and 4/6 K/BB ratio over the course of 8 1/3 innings. He posted a 6.00 ERA in 13 starts last season and probably cannot be trusted for fantasy purposes, particularly given the fact that he has not pitched in a major league game since mid-April.

Padres activated RHP Jarred Cosart from the 10-day disabled list.

Cosart missed nearly a month with a strained hamstring. He'll work in relief for now but could get another shot to start eventually given the state of the Padres' rotation.

Jarred Cosart (hamstring) threw two scoreless innings Tuesday for High-A Lake Elsinore.

Cosart allowed two hits and a walk but no major damage. The right-hander looks poised to return to a bullpen role with San Diego, possibly by this weekend.

Jarred Cosart (hamstring) will throw another bullpen session this weekend.

If it goes well, the Padres could decide to activate him. With Luis Perdomo back, Cosart seems likely to head back to the bullpen once activated.

Padres placed RHP Jarred Cosart on the 10-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain.

Cosart strained his right hamstring in Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks. There is no current timetable for his recovery. The Padres have yet to announce who will take Cosart's place in the rotation, but regardless of whom fills in, there is unlikely to be any true fantasy relevance.

Jarred Cosart suffered a right hamstring strain in his start Tuesday night against the Diamondbacks.

Cosart allowed three runs -- one earned -- over 3 2/3 innings before exiting. The right-hander is probably headed for the 10-day disabled list, and we probably won't recommend picking up his replacement in the Padres' patchwork rotation.
