Date:

Trayce Thompson (back) is available off of the Dodgers bench on Sunday night.

Thompson was forced to leave Saturday night's game due to soreness in his lower back. He was able to take swings in batting practice without issue though, and will be at manager Dave Roberts' disposal on Sunday.
May 29 - 5:16 PM

Trayce Thompson was removed from Saturday's game against the Mets due to lower back soreness.

Thompson left the game in the fifth inning and was replaced by Yasiel Puig in right field. It's unclear how this will affect the 25-year-old's playing time in the coming days. Thompson has enjoyed a breakout season, hitting .274/.336/.528 with seven home runs in 116 plate appearances.
May 28 - 9:20 PM

Trayce Thompson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 3-2, 11-inning loss to the Padres.

Thompson lofted a two-run homer to right-center off of Padres starter Cesar Vargas in the seventh inning. It would be his only hit on the long evening. For the season, the lefty-killer is slashing .281/.347/.573 with seven homers and 19 RBI over 89 at-bats.
May 22 - 2:02 AM

Trayce Thompson hit two homers, walked and scored three times against the Angels on Monday.

His homers were the Dodgers' only two extra-base hits of the night. Thompson is earning himself more playing time versus righties with his play, and he's now 9-for-26 with five homers and two doubles in May, raising his overall OPS from .697 to .949. We're skeptical that he's going to settle in as a useful mixed-league outfielder this year, but the Dodgers will keep riding the hot hand.
May 17 - 2:57 AM

Trayce Thompson hit a pinch-hit, walk-off homer to end Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Mets.

Hitting for Kenley Jansen with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Thompson sent the Dodger faithful home happy when he rocked a solo home run to left against Mets reliever Hansel Robles. The game, as a whole, was a riveting and well-pitched showdown between teams who fancy themselves as contenders for the National League crown this season. Walk-off hero Thompson has now homered in back-to-back games and is slashing .277/.309/.538 with four homers, five doubles and 12 RBI across 65 at-bats.
May 11 - 2:12 AM

Trayce Thompson hit a two-run homer off Steven Matz to give the Dodgers their only runs Monday.

Thompson has adjusted well to his part-time role, playing primarily against lefties. He could get more time in left against righties if he continues to succeed, though the Dodgers also have Enrique Hernandez and Howie Kendrick there as alternatives to Carl Crawford.
May 10 - 3:49 AM

Trayce Thompson went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI against the Rays on Tuesday.

Thompson hit a two-run homer off Rays starter Matt Moore in the second inning before notching a two-run single in the fifth. After an offseason trade to the Dodgers, Thompson has appeared in 23 games with his new club this season. And he's enjoyed a level of success, batting .278/.316/.463 with two home runs and nine RBI.
May 3 - 10:37 PM

Trace Thompson hit his third home run of the spring in Wednesday's loss to the Indians.

Thompson notched a solo shot off Ross Detwiler with one out in the eighth inning to pull the Dodgers to within 4-2, but alas, no Cactus League comeback was forthcoming. While Joc Pederson is firmly cemented as the Dodgers' center fielder for the 2016 campaign, we could see Thompson peel off some at-bats against left-handed pitchers. He showed promise during his 2015 rookie season, hitting .295/.263/.533 across 44 contests. Keep the 25-year-old in mind as a stash option in deeper NL-only leagues.
Mar 30 - 7:10 PM

Trayce Thompson smacked a three-run homer in Monday's win over the Brewers.

It came in the first inning off of Wily Peralta. Thompson also drew a walk, reaching base in two of his three trips to the dish. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has committed to Joc Pederson as his center fielder, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see Thompson getting time in center versus lefties.
Mar 14 - 7:31 PM

Trayce Thompson launched a two-run homer against the Athletics on Thursday.

It capped a five-run first inning for the Dodgers. Acquired from the White Sox in the three-team Todd Frazier deal, Thompson batted .295/.363/.533 over 44 games as a rookie last season. He has some interesting pop and speed, but it would likely take an injury for him to garner significant playing time this season.
Mar 10 - 6:30 PM

Dodgers acquired OF Trayce Thompson from the White Sox in the Todd Frazier deal.

The brother of NBA star Klay Thompson, Trayce was a nice surprise for the White Sox this past season, batting .295/.363/.533 over 44 games. He never produced quite like that in the minors, but he's an excellent athlete with pop and can play all over the outfield. He turns 25 in March.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said he will play some Trayce Thompson in center field and Adam Eaton in a corner outfield spot during spring training.

Ventura notes that it would improve the club's defense. It seems likely that the White Sox would have to unload Adam LaRoche's contract in order to give Thompson a full-time job, as that would allow them to move Avisail Garcia to the designated hitter spot. Thompson made a nice impression in 2015 with a .295/.363/.533 batting line over 44 games, but his minor league track record (.241/.319/.429) suggests that he wouldn't be able to keep that up over a full season.
Tue, Dec 8, 2015 05:47:00 PM

Trayce Thompson homered and walked with the bases loaded to drive in both White Sox runs Thursday against the Yankees.

Thompson had a .744 OPS in Triple-A this year and a career mark of .747 in 734 minor league games, but he's been hovering right around 1.000 through 35 games as a major leaguer. It still seems like a big ol' fluke to us, but it could get him inserted into the White Sox's plans for 2016.
Thu, Sep 24, 2015 10:58:00 PM

Trayce Thompson will bat third Tuesday against the Tigers.

Thompson earned himself a promotion in the order after batting .342 with 14 extra-base hits (including four home runs) and a 1.041 OPS over his first 32 games in the majors. He's an interesting DFS play right now.
