White Sox acquired OF Trayce Thompson from the Athletics in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
He was designated for assignment on Tuesday. This will be the fourth team Thompson has played for in less than a month. The 27-year-old was actually drafted by the White Sox and made his big league debut for them in 2015. He's struggled at the plate this year, collecting just one hit in seven at-bats. Athletics designated OF Trayce Thompson for assignment.

Thompson was 1-for-7 with four strikeouts during his short stay with the A's. The 27-year-old figures to draw interest on waivers from teams in need of outfield depth. He's already spent time with three different organizations in 2018.
Apr 17 - 5:21 PM

Trayce Thompson made the start in Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, his former team.

Thompson misplayed an easy flyball in the first inning in his old stomping grounds, but he atoned with sprint and leaping catch in deep center field to rob former teammate Yasiel Puig of a home run. He also finished 1-for-5 with a run scored, as all nine Oakland starters posted at least one knock in the 21-hit whitewash.
Apr 12 - 2:53 AM

Trayce Thompson will hit eighth and play center field on Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Thompson will get a chance to face his old team for the Athletics on Wednesday night. The brother of Golden State Warrior star Klay Thompson has a career .753 OPS in 453 plate appearances over the past three-plus seasons.
Apr 11 - 6:21 PM

Trayce Thompson is expected to start Tuesday and Wednesday against his former team, the Dodgers, with left-handed starters scheduled for L.A.

Thompson is expected to see more action in the coming days with Chad Pinder (knee) and Boog Powell (knee) both hitting the 10-day disabled list on Saturday due to knee ailments. He'll likely play frequently against southpaws until the team gets healthy, but his fantasy ceiling is still rather limited.
Apr 8 - 2:28 AM

Trayce Thompson is expected to join the Athletics on Saturday.

Thompson was claimed off of waivers on Thursday, though it's unclear why there was a delay in getting him to Los Angeles in time for Friday's game. If he finds his way into regular playing time in Oakland, he could be worth a look in deeper mixed leagues.
Apr 6 - 7:28 PM

Athletics claimed OF Trayce Thompson off waivers from the Yankees.

Klay Thompson's younger brother heads to the Bay Area. He just moved from the Dodgers to the Yankees on waivers, but the Yankees weren't prepared to put the 27-year-old outfielder on their 25-man major league roster. Thompson struggled last season in Los Angeles, but it was a small sample size and he's put up strong power and speed numbers in the minors.
Apr 5 - 1:50 PM

Yankees claimed OF Trayce Thompson off waivers from the Dodgers; optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The younger brother of Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson was designated for assignment by the Dodgers just before Opening Day. Trayce struggled this spring in the Cactus League and batted just .122/.218/.265 in 55 plate appearances last season with Los Angeles, but the 27-year-old has posted intriguing power and speed numbers in the minor leagues and he can play all three outfield positions.
Apr 3 - 4:38 PM

Dodgers designated OF Trayce Thompson for assignment.

The move clears a 40-man roster spot for right-hander Cory Mazzoni, who was claimed off waivers from the Cubs on Tuesday. Thompson, 27, batted just .122/.218/.265 in 55 plate appearances with the Dodgers last season and also struggled badly this spring in the Cactus League.
Mar 27 - 5:09 PM

Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Dodgers will make Trayce Thompson available in trade talks.

The 27-year-old is out of minor league options and is so far down on the depth chart that he's a longshot to crack the Opening Day roster. Given the fact that he would assuredly be claimed if they tried to pass him through waivers, it makes sense for the Dodgers to flip him for what they can rather than losing him for nothing.
Mar 18 - 10:24 PM

Trayce Thompson went 2-for-3 with an RBI single and two runs scored Friday versus the White Sox.

Thompson showed some promise early on in 2016 before suffering stress fractures in his back and struggled between the majors and the minors last season. The 26-year-old is out of options this spring, so the Dodgers would have to expose him to waivers if he doesn’t make the Opening Day roster. He’s yet another factor in a complicated outfield situation with the Dodgers.
Feb 23 - 8:30 PM

Dodgers recalled OF Trayce Thompson from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Thompson has batted just .116/.208/.279 this year in the majors and his numbers at Triple-A weren't much better. He'll serve as bench depth for Los Angeles.

Dodgers optioned OF Trayce Thompson to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Thompson has hit only .116/.208/.279 over 19 games in the majors this season. He'll return to a .211/.273/.377 line at Oklahoma City.

Trayce Thompson went 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored in Sunday's victory over the Royals.

Thompson tripled and scored on a Logan Forsythe single in the third inning, increasing the Dodgers' early lead to 2-0. He's hitting just .129/.229/.323 through his first 35 plate appearances on the season.
Sun, Jul 9, 2017 07:27:00 PM

Trayce Thompson homered Wednesday for his first hit in the majors this season.

Thompson had been 0-for-13 before taking Keynan Middleton deep in the eighth inning tonight. He's probably not going to be up for long, but he should start versus lefties until he's sent back down.
