Dodgers acquired OF Trayce Thompson from the White Sox in the Todd Frazier deal.
The brother of NBA star Klay Thompson, Trayce was a nice surprise for the White Sox this past season, batting .295/.363/.533 over 44 games. He never produced quite like that in the minors, but he's an excellent athlete with pop and can play all over the outfield. He turns 25 in March. Wed, Dec 16, 2015 01:27:00 PM

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said he will play some Trayce Thompson in center field and Adam Eaton in a corner outfield spot during spring training.

Ventura notes that it would improve the club's defense. It seems likely that the White Sox would have to unload Adam LaRoche's contract in order to give Thompson a full-time job, as that would allow them to move Avisail Garcia to the designated hitter spot. Thompson made a nice impression in 2015 with a .295/.363/.533 batting line over 44 games, but his minor league track record (.241/.319/.429) suggests that he wouldn't be able to keep that up over a full season.

Trayce Thompson homered and walked with the bases loaded to drive in both White Sox runs Thursday against the Yankees.

Thompson had a .744 OPS in Triple-A this year and a career mark of .747 in 734 minor league games, but he's been hovering right around 1.000 through 35 games as a major leaguer. It still seems like a big ol' fluke to us, but it could get him inserted into the White Sox's plans for 2016.

Trayce Thompson will bat third Tuesday against the Tigers.

Thompson earned himself a promotion in the order after batting .342 with 14 extra-base hits (including four home runs) and a 1.041 OPS over his first 32 games in the majors. He's an interesting DFS play right now.

Trayce Thompson (elbow) went 1-for-4 with a double in his return to the White Sox starting lineup on Friday.

Thompson had been on the shelf since Monday night when he suffered a hyperextended left elbow. He has been hammering the baseball in his limited time with the big league club, slashing a robust .369/.414/.677 with four homers and 13 RBI in 65 at-bats. The 24-year-old is positioning himself well to compete for a starting spot in the White Sox 2016 outfield.

Trayce Thompson (elbow) is out of the White Sox starting lineup again on Thursday afternoon.

Thompson hasn't played since suffering a hyperextended left elbow on Monday night. He remains day-to-day. J.B. Shuck is starting in center field for the White Sox as they wrap up a four-game series with the Athletics.

Trayce Thompson (elbow) is out of the White Sox starting lineup again on Wednesday night.

Thompson suffered a left elbow strain on Monday and hasn't played since. It's not clear when he might be ready. J.B. Shuck is getting a start against the A's.

Trayce Thompson exited Monday's game against the Athletics with a left elbow strain.

Thompson hurt himself while diving after a ball. X-rays came back negative and he's being considered day-to-day.

Trayce Thompson continued tearing the cover off the ball Tuesday, going 3-for-4 with three RBI as the White Sox edged the Red Sox 5-4.

Thompson finished a home run shy of the cycle, tripling in the second, delivering an RBI single in the fourth and knocking a game-winning, two-run double in the seventh. It was par for the course for the 24-year-old, who has 12 hits in 23 at-bats (.522) since being promoted in early August. While we don't think that average will stick -- that would be a record -- it's fun to see Thompson tear it up while it lasts.

Trayce Thompson went 2-for-3 and hit his second homer Saturday against the Mariners.

Thompson was a lifetime .241 hitter in the minors, but he's started off his major league career at .373 in 19 at-bats. Whether the early success will get him an expanded role against righties remains to be seen. He was called up primarily to play against lefties, and that's probably the only role he's suited for. Still, he's impressed so far.

Trayce Thompson hit his first major league home run against the Angels on Tuesday.

Batting ninth, Thompson hit a solo homer off Angels starter Hector Santiago in the fifth inning. He finished 1-for-2 with the homer and a walk. Thompson has four hits in nine at-bats since being promoted on August 3.

Trayce Thompson went 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored in Friday's loss to the Royals.

These hits were the first two of Thompson's major league career. The White Sox called him up on August 3. Down in Triple-A, he hit 13 homers and stole 11 bases across 104 games. There's no fantasy value here.

White Sox recalled OF Trayce Thompson from Triple-A Charlotte.

Thompson has produced 13 home runs and 11 stolen bases in 104 games this season at the Triple-A level, though it's come with a .260 batting average and .304 on-base clip. He probably won't carry much value in standard mixed fantasy leagues. The 24-year-old outfielder is the brother of Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson.

White Sox prospect OF Trayce Thompson went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and five RBI on Wednesday for Triple-A Charlotte.

Thompson hit a two-run shot in the fourth inning and followed it with a three-run bomb in the eighth, giving him nine on the season. Unfortunately, the 24-year-old’s big day wasn’t quite as impressive as his brother Klay Thompson’s NBA championship the night before. Trayce is having a nice rebound campaign after a disappointing showing last year in Double-A, as Wednesday’s performance pushed his season batting line to .278/.320/.481 through 65 games. He also has 27 extra-base hits and seven steals to go along with the lowest strikeout rate (21.2%) of his career, although the latter has come with a drastically reduced walk rate (5.4%).

White Sox prospect OF Trayce Thompson went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs on Monday for Triple-A Charlotte.

The two-homer performance pushed Thompson’s season total to six through 57 games, and he’s also batting .270/.313/.447 with 22 extra-base hits and 23 RBI. It’s worth noting that the 24-year-old outfielder, now in his seventh professional season, has trimmed his strikeout rate to 20% this season in the International League, which is well below his career rate of 26.6%. However, it’s worth noting that his improvement in that department has come with a sharp decline in his walk rate (5.6% from 11% in 2014). Thompson is on the South Siders' 40-man roster and will likely make his debut later this season, but his ongoing inconsistencies at the plate make it difficult to project him as an everyday player.
