Braves re-signed C Ryan Lavarnway to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Lavarnway played in 27 games with the Braves this past season while batting .227/.311/.394 with two home runs and six RBI over 74 plate appearances. The 28-year-old has a chance to serve as A.J. Pierzynski's backup if the Braves decide to give Christian Bethancourt some time in the minors. Nov 24 - 2:16 PM

Braves sent C Ryan Lavarnway outright to Triple-A Gwinnett.

The 28-year-old backstop appeared in 37 big league games between the Orioles and Braves in 2015, hitting a meager .191/.283/.319 with two homers, six RBI and a 28/12 K/BB ratio. The former top prospect may never live him to the massive hype that once surrounded him, but he still provides solid depth behind the plate.

Ryan Lavarnway went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Cubs.

Lavarnway's solo home run in the fifth inning was his second of the season. He started the year with the Orioles, but they designated him for assignment in late May, at which point the Braves scooped him up. In limited spot duty, he's hit .257/.358/.489 with two homers and six RBI. The 27-year-old catcher doesn't see enough at-bats (just 47 with the Braves thus far) for fantasy relevance.
Aug 23 - 6:00 PM

Braves purchased the contract of C Ryan Lavarnway from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Lavarnway will take over as the Braves' backup catcher with Christian Bethancourt heading to the minors in a corresponding move. Lavarnway, 27, is a .192/.246/.300 career hitter in 107 major league games.
Jun 15 - 11:57 AM

Braves signed catcher Ryan Lavarnway to a minor league contract.

Jose Yepez landed on the DL in Triple-A, so the Braves needed an extra catcher around. Lavarnway was let go by the Orioles earlier this week.
May 30 - 4:06 PM

Ryan Lavarnway has elected free agency.

He was designated for assignment earlier in the week to make room on the active roster for Steve Clevenger. With so many teams around the league starved for depth behind the plate, he should be able to find a suitable opportunity elsewhere.
May 29 - 7:20 PM

Orioles designated C/1B Ryan Lavarnway for assignment.

The move clears a spot for Steve Clevenger on the active roster. Lavarnway gets the boot after going just 3-for-28 (.107) over 10 games.
May 26 - 2:45 PM

Orioles purchased the contract of C/1B Ryan Lavarnway from Triple-A Norfolk.

Lavarnway gives the O's another decent bench bat and depth behind the plate. He's not fantasy relevant.
Apr 6 - 11:41 AM

Orioles sent C/1B Ryan Lavarnway outright to Triple-A Norfolk.

Finally Lavarnway stays put in the same organization after being claimed off waivers three times this winter. He'll be invited to spring training but probably won't crack the Opening Day roster.
Jan 16 - 3:48 PM

Orioles designated 1B/C Ryan Lavarnway for assignment.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Delmon Young. Lavarnway has been in four organizations already this offseason and could now land in a fifth. The 27-year-old has hit in the minors but sports just a .208/.389/.370 batting line during his time in the majors.
Jan 9 - 5:13 PM

Orioles claimed 1B/C Ryan Lavarnway off waivers from the Cubs.

While Matt Wieters (elbow) is hopeful that he'll be ready to start on Opening Day, the Orioles added depth at catcher in the form of Lavarnway. He'll join Steve Clevenger and Caleb Joseph as potential starters should Wieters be unable to go. Lavarnway was once a somewhat promising prospect, but that talent has yet to translate to the majors, as he's hit only .208/.389/.370 over the course of his career.

Cubs claimed 1B/C Ryan Lavarnway off waivers from the Dodgers.

Lavarnway had been claimed by the Dodgers earlier this month before being designated for assignment a week later for the second time this offseason. The 27-year-old had an injury-shortened 2014 season and isn't really a prospect anymore but is probably worth a flier. It remains to be seen how he'll fit in with the Cubs, but he makes the most sense as a third catcher/pinch-hitter.

Dodgers designated 1B/C Ryan Lavarnway for assignment.

Lavarnway was claimed off waivers from the Red Sox last week, but he's now getting the boot after the Dodgers' flurry of activity at the Winter Meetings. The 27-year-old should draw interest on the waiver wire.

Dodgers claimed 1B/C Ryan Lavarnway off waivers from the Red Sox.

Lavarnway was designated for assignment by the Red Sox last week in order to make room for Pablo Sandoval on the 40-man roster. The 27-year-old missed some time this past season with a broken hamate bone in his left wrist and doesn't have much momentum left as an intriguing prospect, but the new Dodgers' regime figured it was worth taking a chance on him.

Red Sox designated 1B Ryan Lavarnway for assignment.

The move clears a spot for the newly-signed Pablo Sandoval on the 40-man roster. Lavarnway gained some momentum as a prospect after posting some big numbers in the minors a couple of years ago, but his success hasn't translated in the majors. Still, the 27-year-old figures to draw some interest on waivers.
