Mets signed INF Omar Quintanilla to a minor league contract with a spring training invite.
Quintanilla appeared in 29 games with the Mets last season prior to being traded to the Orioles in July. The 31-year-old owns a .220/.279/.302 batting line in the majors and will be an underdog to beat out Brandon Hicks for a backup infielder spot. Jan 3 - 4:22 PM

The Orioles are hoping to re-sign Omar Quintanilla.

Quintanilla was non-tendered by the O's late last month, but the club has interest in bringing him back at a lesser rate to serve as organizational infield depth. The 31-year-old is a .220/.279/.302 career hitter in MLB.

Orioles non-tendered INF Omar Quintanilla.

Quintanilla was acquired from the Mets in July, but became expendable with the addition of Alexi Casilla. He owns a career .220/.279/.302 line and is unlikely to make a major impact during the 2013 season.

Orioles acquired INF Omar Quintanilla from the Mets for future considerations.

Quintanilla should see regular time at second base with injuries to Brian Roberts and Robert Andino. The career .218/.278/.294 isn't worth owning even in AL-only leagues, though.

Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reports that the Mets have traded Omar Quintanilla to the Orioles for future considerations.

Quintanilla was designated for assignment earlier this week. The deal would make some sense, as the O's are running short on middle infield depth with injuries to Brian Roberts and Robert Andino.

Mets designated INF Omar Quintanilla for assignment.

Quintanilla has played well in limited duty for the Mets this season, but he was cleared to make room for Jason Bay's return from the disabled list. The veteran infielder could draw interest on waivers.

Omar Quintanilla has been diagnosed with a small fracture in his left index finger but will play through the injury.

Quintanilla injured himself on a dive during Wednesday's game. It should just be a pain tolerance thing, so if he thinks he can manage it, he should be fine.

X-rays on Omar Quintanilla's left index finger inconclusive regarding a possible fracture.

Quintanilla injured the finger on a diving play in Wednesday's game, but started Thursday and went 2-for-3. He'll be further examined when the team returns to New York, but the finger remains an issue. The Mets are shorthanded in their middle infield right now, so Jordany Valdespin would fill in if Quintanilla needs to miss time.

Omar Quintanilla (finger) is in Thursday's lineup.

Quintanilla was called day-to-day after injuring his finger on a diving play Wednesday night. He may still be sore, but the Mets are low on middle infield depth and have probably asked him to play through the pain.

Omar Quintanilla is day-to-day after injuring his finger on a diving play Wednesday night.

Another Mets shortstop goes down. Quintanilla should avoid the 15-day disabled list but may need to rest up for the next couple of games. Jordany Valdespin would fill in.

Mets purchased the contract of INF Omar Quintanilla from Triple-A Buffalo.

The Mets have yet to announce a corresponding roster move, but right-hander Manny Acosta is expected to be designated for assignment. Quintanilla, 30, owns an underwhelming .213/.268/.284 batting line over 582 plate appearances in the majors and can be ignored in fantasy leagues. He'll merely function as a stopgap option at shortstop.

The Mets will purchase the contract of infielder Omar Quintanilla from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.

He will replace Justin Turner, who is headed to the disabled list with an ankle sprain. Quintanilla, 30, has a .213/.268/.284 batting line over 582 plate appearances in the majors and can be ignored in fantasy leagues.

Mets signed INF Omar Quintanilla to a minor league contract.

Quintanilla went 1-for-22 with two RBI and nine strikeouts last season for the Rangers. He's capable of playing decent defense all over the infield, but the 30-year-old is far from a lock to make the Mets' Opening Day roster.

Omar Quintanilla has elected to become a free agent.

Quintanilla was sent outright to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, but refused the minor league assignment. The 29-year-old infielder went just 1-for-22 (.045) during his time with the Rangers and has a .213 career batting average in the big leagues. Let the bidding war begin.
