Mets designated SS Omar Quintanilla for assignment.

Quintanilla was starting back-to-back games for the Mets as recently as Monday, but they apparently decided they've got better options for the 40-man roster between then and now. Quintanilla was hitting .207/.258/.241 in 29 at-bats this year. A corresponding roster move will be announced tomorrow.
May 7 - 9:17 PM

Omar Quintanilla made his second straight start at shortstop for the Mets on Monday, but he ended up going 0-for-3 and committing an error.

Pity the poor fantasy leaguer with a vested interest in the Mets' shortstop situation, but it's safe to say that Ruben Tejada's job is very much up for grabs. One wonders if the Mets will just punt defense and call up Wilmer Flores to play the position.
May 5 - 11:08 PM

Mets purchased the contract of INF Omar Quintanilla from Triple-A Las Vegas.

The 32-year-old defensive specialist will serve as the primary backup to Ruben Tejada at shortstop. Quintanilla hit a meager .158/.238/.184 with eight strikeouts in 38 spring at-bats.
Mar 30 - 4:25 PM

Mets re-signed INF Omar Quintanilla to a minor league contract.

The 32-year-old who is best known for his glove work hit a paltry .222/.306/.283 with two homers and 21 RBI in 95 games for the Mets in 2013. He was non-tendered in December to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, but will return and provide valuable organizational depth.
Jan 18 - 1:39 PM

Mets non-tendered INF Omar Quintanilla.

Quintanilla is now free to sign with anyone. He batted just .222/.306/.283 with two home runs and 21 RBI in 359 plate appearances this past season for the Mets, but his ability to play shortstop will have teams calling.

Omar Quintanilla went 1-for-3 with two strikeouts in the Mets' loss to the Giants on Thursday.

Quintanilla is going to be in a platoon at shortstop down the stretch with youngster Wilfredo Tovar. Ruben Tejada is done for the season with a broken right fibula.

Omar Quintanilla went 1-for-3 with a walk in Thursday's loss to the Marlins.

Quintanilla started out hot this season, but he's hitting just .195 over his last 34 games. Of course, that shouldn't be a big surprise for a .222 career hitter. It's puzzling why the Mets won't call up Ruben Tejada, as he still has a chance of being a long-term contributor on the club.

Omar Quintanilla launched a solo homer in Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals.

Quintanilla's blast in the first inning got the scoring going, and the Mets added another run later in the frame. However, they were outscored 9-0 the rest of the way. The veteran infield has fared well since his call-up, batting .325 with a couple homers over nine games.

Omar Quintanilla went 2-for-3 with a two-RBI triple in Tuesday's loss to the Nationals.

Quintanilla was hitting at Triple-A and hasn't stopped since arriving with the Mets, as he's tallied four straight multi-hit contests. It looks like he's going to be in the leadoff spot for the Mets for a while and is worth carrying in NL-only formats while he's not.

Mets purchased the contract of INF Omar Quintanilla from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Quintanilla will likely get regular playing time at shortstop while Ruben Tejada (quad) is on the shelf. The 31-year-old was batting .333/.419/.484 in 47 games for the Las Vegas 51s but he's a .220/.279/.302 career hitter in the majors and can be ignored in fantasy leagues.

Mets signed INF Omar Quintanilla to a minor league contract with a spring training invite.

Quintanilla appeared in 29 games with the Mets last season prior to being traded to the Orioles in July. The 31-year-old owns a .220/.279/.302 batting line in the majors and will be an underdog to beat out Brandon Hicks for a backup infielder spot.

The Orioles are hoping to re-sign Omar Quintanilla.

Quintanilla was non-tendered by the O's late last month, but the club has interest in bringing him back at a lesser rate to serve as organizational infield depth. The 31-year-old is a .220/.279/.302 career hitter in MLB.
Tue, Dec 4, 2012 04:09:00 PM

Orioles non-tendered INF Omar Quintanilla.

Quintanilla was acquired from the Mets in July, but became expendable with the addition of Alexi Casilla. He owns a career .220/.279/.302 line and is unlikely to make a major impact during the 2013 season.
Fri, Nov 30, 2012 10:03:00 PM

Orioles acquired INF Omar Quintanilla from the Mets for future considerations.

Quintanilla should see regular time at second base with injuries to Brian Roberts and Robert Andino. The career .218/.278/.294 isn't worth owning even in AL-only leagues, though.
