Rangers claimed INF/OF Renato Nunez off of waivers from the Athletics.
This could be a nice low-risk addition for the Rangers. Nunez, 24, hit .249/.319/.518 with 32 homers and 78 RBI in 126 games at Triple-A Nashville in 2017. Given the plethora of injuries the Rangers have dealt with in recent days, Nunez could find his way into a regular role there and his power makes him relevant immediately in AL-only formats. Athletics placed INF/OF Renato Nunez on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.

Nunez strained his hamstring back in late February but is still working his way back. The 23-year-old is out of minor league options, so the A's will have to make room for him at some point. He tallied 32 home runs and 78 RBI in 126 games last season at the Triple-A level before struggling as a September callup.

Renato Nunez (hamstring) is playing five innings in a minor league game on Thursday.

Nunez has been sidelined by a left hamstring strain for much of this month and will likely open the 2018 season on the 10-day disabled list. The 23-year-old put up 32 home runs and 78 RBI in 126 games last summer at Triple-A Nashville before mostly struggling as a September callup. He's out of minor league options, so he'll join the A's major league roster whenever he's healthy.

Renato Nunez (hamstring) remains sidelined.

Nunez is doing some hitting and taking ground balls, but it's unclear when he might be ready for game action after he strained his left hamstring two weeks ago. He's out of options but is looking like a good bet to begin the season on the disabled list.
Mar 11 - 1:56 PM

Renato Nunez (hamstring) hopes to return to game action by the end of the spring.

Nunez suffered a strained left hamstring last weekend and is expected to begin a running progression soon. Athletics manager Bob Melvin indicated that he'd like him to at least see time at DH by the end of the spring, but it appears that a stint on the disabled list could be the way to go here.
Mar 5 - 12:18 PM

Renato Nunez (hamstring) did some jogging Saturday.

It's still going to be a long time before Nunez returns to game action. He's looking like a pretty good bet to begin the season on the disabled list.
Mar 4 - 12:19 PM

Renato Nunez (hamstring) said he felt improvement Monday.

Nunez suffered a strained left hamstring on Saturday, but he told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle that he doesn't feel the injury as much when walking. More should be known on his status in the next few days. Nunez is out of options this spring and is hoping to win a spot as a bench player.
Feb 26 - 11:28 AM

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Sunday that Renato Nunez (hamstring) will be sidelined for at least a week.

It's a conservative estimate, as hamstring strains like the one Nunez suffered Saturday generally take longer than that. Nunez entered camp with a good shot at cracking the Opening Day roster considering he's out of options.
Feb 25 - 12:08 PM

Renato Nunez suffered a strained left hamstring Saturday, according to A's manager Bob Melvin.

Nunez will likely be out a few days, at least, and could be sidelined longer depending on the severity. A highly regarded prospect in the A's system, Nunez is vying for a job with the club after appearing in eight games with the big club last year. More should be known on his timetable soon.

Renato Nunez slugged his first major league homer in Friday’s loss to the Rangers.

Nunez provided the only offense of the game for the Athletics with a three-run blast off Martin Perez in the seventh inning. The 23-year-old earned a call-up earlier this month after batting .249/.319/.518 with 32 homers in 126 games this season in Triple-A, but the playing time just hasn’t been there. Including Friday, he’s 3-for-14 (.214) through seven games with the A's this month.

Athletics recalled INF/OF Renato Nunez from Triple-A Nashville.

Nunez will join the out-of-contention Athletics for the final four weeks of the regular season after slashing .249/.319/.518 with 32 home runs and 78 RBI in 126 games this year at the Triple-A level. He should get regular starts as Oakland is merely playing out the string, though it's not entirely clear what the plan is. Nunez has made appearances at third base, first base, second base, and left field this season in the minors.

Athletics optioned 3B Renato Nunez to Triple-A Nashville.

Nunez' chances of landing a spot on the Opening Day roster took a massive hit over the winter with the addition of Trevor Plouffe. He still profiles as a solid major league regular and should get an opportunity with the big league club at some point in 2017.

Athletics recalled 3B Renato Nunez from Triple-A Nashville.

Nunez hit .228/.278/.412 with 23 home runs and 75 RBI in 128 games this season at the Triple-A level. He obviously has good power, but the 22-year-old infielder will need to add a little more consistency before he becomes a highly impactful major league regular.

Athletics 3B prospect Renato Nunez homered and drove in two runs Monday in a win for Triple-A Nashville.

Nunez plated a run with an RBI single in the fourth before driving a solo home run off Omaha right-hander Clayton Mortensen in the fifth inning. The 22-year-old has contributed at least one RBI in each of his last four games. Nunez has shown nice power this year with 15 round-trippers in 359 at-bats, though it's come with a disappointing .228 batting average.

Athletics optioned 3B Renato Nunez to Triple-A Nashville.

The third base prospect didn't camp with virtually zero chance of earning a roster spot. Nunez will get his first taste of Triple-A ball to start 2016.
