Athletics recalled INF/OF Renato Nunez from Triple-A Nashville.
Nunez will join the out-of-contention Athletics for the final four weeks of the regular season after slashing .249/.319/.518 with 32 home runs and 78 RBI in 126 games this year at the Triple-A level. He should get regular starts as Oakland is merely playing out the string, though it's not entirely clear what the plan is. Nunez has made appearances at third base, first base, second base, and left field this season in the minors. Sep 5 - 5:05 PM

Athletics optioned 3B Renato Nunez to Triple-A Nashville.

Nunez' chances of landing a spot on the Opening Day roster took a massive hit over the winter with the addition of Trevor Plouffe. He still profiles as a solid major league regular and should get an opportunity with the big league club at some point in 2017.

Athletics recalled 3B Renato Nunez from Triple-A Nashville.

Nunez hit .228/.278/.412 with 23 home runs and 75 RBI in 128 games this season at the Triple-A level. He obviously has good power, but the 22-year-old infielder will need to add a little more consistency before he becomes a highly impactful major league regular.

Athletics 3B prospect Renato Nunez homered and drove in two runs Monday in a win for Triple-A Nashville.

Nunez plated a run with an RBI single in the fourth before driving a solo home run off Omaha right-hander Clayton Mortensen in the fifth inning. The 22-year-old has contributed at least one RBI in each of his last four games. Nunez has shown nice power this year with 15 round-trippers in 359 at-bats, though it's come with a disappointing .228 batting average.

Athletics optioned 3B Renato Nunez to Triple-A Nashville.

The third base prospect didn't camp with virtually zero chance of earning a roster spot. Nunez will get his first taste of Triple-A ball to start 2016.

Athletics 3B prospect Renato Nunez slugged three hits and reached base four times in Sunday's win for Double-A Midland.

When you're hot, you're hot. Nunez has pounded eight hits in his last 11 at-bats with two grand slams and 11 RBI over that stretch. His average, now at .279, is the highest it's been all season. The 21-year-old boasts a .541 slugging percentage in 170 second half at-bats. With nothing left to prove in Double-A, we'd expect Nunez to begin next season with Triple-A Round Rock.

Nunez has done a much better job in the second half, hitting .328 with a .527 slugging percentage. He only hit .228 in 184 first half at-bats.

Athletics optioned 3B Renato Nunez to Double-A Midland.

Nunez batted .279/.336/.517 with 29 home runs and 96 RBI in 124 games last season at High-A Stockton, but the 20-year-old third base prospect went 3-for-16 (.188) with eight strikeouts this spring in Cactus League play. He's a few years away from the major leagues.

Athletics purchased the contract of 3B Renato Nunez from High-A Stockton.

Nunez is now protected from December's Rule 5 Draft. The 20-year-old third baseman hit .279/.336/.517 with 29 home runs and 96 RBI in 124 games this past season in High-A ball. He could have a very bright future.

Athletics third base prospect Renato Nunez went 2-for-6 with a double and a home run for High-A Stockton on Saturday.

Nunez has a .285/.345/.558 line with 24 doubles, two triples, and 27 home runs in 2014. His K:BB remains an ugly 83:29 line, which underscores his aggressive approach. Nunez has developed nicely since the Athletics gave him a $2.2 million signing bonus back in 2010. He is likely to spend the rest of 2014 in Stockton, then open 2015 with Double-A Midland.

Athletics prospect 3B Renato Nunez went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI on Tuesday for High-A Stockton.

Nunez has been crushing the ball since the beginning of June, with a .328/.396/.683 batting line, 17 home runs, 12 doubles and 49 RBI in 47 games. On the season, the 20-year-old has posted a .905 OPS with 26 homers, 23 doubles and 75 RBI in 95 games at Stockton. Though his power profiles nicely at the hot corner, Nunez's swing-and-miss tendencies, highlighted by an 81-29 strikeout-to-walk ratio this season, could lead to struggles against more advanced pitching once he's promoted to Double-A.

Athletics prospect third baseman Renato Nunez went 3-for-4 with a home run and a walk for High-A Stockton on Monday, raising his season line to .287/.350/.562.

The 20-year old Nunez has been raking since the beginning of June, putting up a .340/.412/.712 line with 11 doubles, one triple, and 15 home runs. He profiles as a solid major league starter with some power and below-average defense, which may force him to first base in the future.

Athletics third base prospect Renato Nunez went 2-for-4 with two home runs for High-A Stockton on Monday.

Nunez has been on fire over the past three weeks, hitting .408/.489/.908 with five doubles and 11 home runs over 20 games. The 20-year old Venezuelan slugger could be in line for a promotion to Double-A Midland in the next few weeks.

Athletics third base prospect Renato Nunez with 2-for-5 with a home run and a walk for High-A Stockton on Friday, raising his season line to .287/.356/.545.

The 20-year old Venezuelan slugger has been white-hot since June 20, hitting .436/.516/.945 with four doubles and eight home runs in 14 games, picking up four walks and being hit by pitches five times while striking out only nine times. Nunez lacks all-star potential, but he is clearly too good for the California League and could see time in the Double-A Texas League before the season is over.
