Josh Lueke has agreed to a contract with the Yakult Swallows of Nippon Professional Baseball.
But he first has to secure a work visa in Japan, and that maybe be difficult given his past legal troubles. It's doubtful we'll ever see Lueke pitch in a major league uniform again. The 31-year-old right-hander had a 5.64 ERA in 30 1/3 innings with the Rays in 2014. Mon, Dec 14, 2015 03:50:00 PM

Josh Lueke has signed with Delfines del Carmen of the Mexican League.

Lueke, 30, made 25 appearances with the Rays last season and owns an ugly 6.16 ERA over 87 2/3 innings in the majors. Even putting aside his past legal issues, he might not get another shot with an MLB team.

Rays designated RHP Josh Lueke for assignment.

The 29-year-old right-hander appeared in 25 games for the Rays, posting a disappointing 5.64 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 19/5 K/BB ratio over 30 1/3 innings. It's possible that he'll pass through waivers and continue to serve as bullpen depth for the Rays in the minor leagues.

Josh Lueke allowed two runs in two innings of relief work, taking the loss as the Rays lost to the Twins in 12 innings on Wednesday.

Lueke put runners on second and third with no outs in the 12th inning before serving up a two-run single to Chris Colabello to break a 4-4 tie. Lueke's peripherals have been decent -- nine strikeouts and one unintentional walk -- but he's also allowed runs in five of his 10 appearances.

Josh Lueke retired all five batters he faced to finish Saturday's tie game with the Orioles.

Lueke is out of options and seems poised to make the Rays as a result. He's had a decent enough spring, with a 3.24 ERA and a 4/1 K/BB ratio in 8 1/3 innings. Still, the Rays may have better options for the bullpen spot in Triple-A.

After being acquired from the Mariners for John Jaso, Lueke was a disappointment last season, amassing a 5.59 ERA in 42 appearances for Durham and giving up seven runs in 3 1/3 innings in the majors.
