Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said Friday that Jedd Gyorko will see the bulk of the starts at shortstop while Paul DeJong (hand) is sidelined.
President of baseball operations John Mozeliak referenced Yairo Munoz when asked who would play shortstop the most, but Matheny evidently prefers Gyorko and he's the one who fills out the lineup card. The Cards might not be losing all that much on offense here if they can get Matt Carpenter going, but their infield defense looks really shaky. May 18 - 6:08 PM

Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-5 with a homer and a double as the Cardinals triumphed over the Cubs in 14 innings on Sunday night.

Gyorko pulled the Cardinals even at 1-1 with a solo shot off of Jon Lester in the second inning. He also doubled and drew a walk in the contest. With as well as he is crushing the ball against southpaws, you have to figure that he'll start seeing at-bats against right-handed pitching as well. Gyorko is hitting a sizzling .375/.500/.719 with three homers and six RBI in 42 plate appearances on the season.
May 7 - 1:56 AM

Jedd Gyorko went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 9-1 victory against the Mets.

Gyorko's homer was his first of the season, as he took reliever Corey Oswalt deep in the fifth inning. He is hitting a cool .467 (7-for-15) through nine games this season. Gyorko is likely to see more playing time now that he is over the hamstring strain which landed him on the 10-day disabled list. He isn't a bad buy-low candidate in NL-only fantasy leagues.
Apr 26 - 2:06 AM

Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-2 with two walks against the Cubs on Thursday.

Gyorko was making his first start since coming off the disabled list, so he's now started three of the six games in which he's been on the active roster. This seems like a good time to remember that Gyorko was the Cardinals' second-best player last year behind only Tommy Pham. He's 5-for-8 with three walks and no strikeouts this season. The Cardinals want to play Jose Martinez regularly, for good reason, but Gyorko still deserves to be their starting third baseman.
Apr 19 - 5:35 PM

Cardinals activated INF Jedd Gyorko from the 10-day disabled list.

Gyorko went down with a hamstring strain three games into the season, but he was cleared to return after taking some at-bats in extended spring training. He's worth a look in deeper mixed leagues where he's still available. Kolten Wong figures to see a decrease in playing time now that Gyorko is back in the fold.
Apr 16 - 1:22 PM

Jedd Gyorko (hamstring) is still about a week away from beginning a rehab assignment.

Gyorko took batting practice Monday but hasn't tested out his right hamstring with any running yet. The Cardinals have been using Matt Carpenter as their main third baseman, with Jose Martinez at first base.
Apr 9 - 5:27 PM

Cardinals placed INF Jedd Gyorko on the 10-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain.

Gyorko injured his hamstring during Monday's game and the Cardinals didn't want to go with a short bench. The 29-year-old missed two weeks with a hamstring strain last season, but he's hopeful that he won't have to miss that much time. Matt Carpenter figures to be the primary third baseman during his absence, with Kolten Wong at second base and Jose Martinez at first base.
Apr 3 - 3:51 PM

Jedd Gyorko left Monday's game against the Brewers after suffering a right hamstring strain.

The injury could very well send him to the disabled list. Gyorko was 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI, a hit-by-pitch, and two runs scored Monday before exiting. Matt Carpenter will likely serve as the Cardinals' primary third baseman while Gyorko is out, with Kolten Wong playing second base and Jose Martinez at first base. Yairo Munoz and Greg Garcia are also options at the hot corner.
Apr 2 - 4:34 PM

Jedd Gyorko is starting for a second-straight game at third base on Monday against the Brewers.

Gyorko wasn't expected to get much playing time against right-handers -- and he still might not -- but he gets the start against Zach Davies and the Brewers on Monday. Kolten Wong gets another day off. Gyorko will be joined in the lineup by: Dexter Fowler RF, Tommy Pham CF, Matt Carpenter 2B, Marcell Ozuna LF, Jose Martinez 1B, Yadier Molina C, Paul DeJong SS, Gyorko 3B, and Miles Mikolas gets the start on the mound.
Apr 2 - 11:24 AM

Jedd Gyorko is starting at third base for the Cardinals on Sunday versus the Mets.

Matt Carpenter will play second base and Kolten Wong will sit against Mets left-hander Steven Matz. Gyorko battled a wrist issue this spring and hit poorly in the Grapefruit League, but he's posted tremendous regular-season power numbers since joining the Cardinals.
Apr 1 - 9:49 AM

Jedd Gyorko hit his first spring homer Friday off the Nationals' Gio Gonzalez.

Gyorko is still hitting just .185/.214/.296 in 27 at-bats. Still, his spot as the Cardinals' third baseman is assured this year. Last year, the Cardinals handed Jhonny Peralta the starting job, even though Gyorko seemed like the far better bet (and was).
Mar 16 - 4:43 PM

Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-3 and drove in a run against the Braves on Saturday.

He laced an RBI single in the sixth inning. Gyorko will serve as the Cardinals' everyday third baseman again this year after registering a .272 batting average with 20 homers and 67 RBI in 125 games last season.
Mar 3 - 6:07 PM

Jedd Gyorko ripped a solo homer and reached base three times Tuesday against the Cubs.

His solo blast off of Felix Pena went an estimated 450 feet and was his 20th of the season. Gyorko has gone deep in the first two games of the series versus the Cubs and has reached base six times. It might be wise to add him in your fantasy league if he had been dropped.
Wed, Sep 27, 2017 12:14:00 AM

Jedd Gyorko launched his 19th home run of the season on Monday night against the Cubs.

Gyorko went deep for a solo shot off Cubs starter Jon Lester in the bottom of the second inning. It was part of a 3-for-3 performance from the 29-year-old infielder, who owns a cool .810 OPS through 122 total games this season. He's under contract with St. Louis through 2019.
Mon, Sep 25, 2017 11:38:00 PM

Jedd Gyorko (hamstring) has returned to the Cardinals' lineup Tuesday versus the Reds.

Gyorko has had a couple of pinch-hit appearances since returning from the disabled list, but this will be his first start since suffering his hamstring strain in late August. He's hitting seventh against right-hander Jackson Stephens.
