Jedd Gyorko (hamstring) remained out of the Padres' lineup Monday.

The second baseman has been out of action three out of the last four games due to a left hamstring strain. The good news is that Gyorko went through all pre-game activities and could be back in the lineup on Tuesday.

Jedd Gyorko (hamstring) is not in Sunday's lineup.

He's now missed two out of the last three contests after tweaking his left hamstring on Thursday. It's possible he'll be available to pinch-hit, and the Padres are confident that he will not need a trip to the disabled list.
Aug 24 - 2:07 PM

Jedd Gyorko (hamstring) is out of the Padres' starting lineup Saturday versus the Diamondbacks.

Gyorko tweaked his left hamstring on Thursday against the Dodgers. He played through the injury on Friday night, but will rest on Saturday and aim to return Sunday.
Aug 23 - 6:16 PM

Jedd Gyorko finished 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday's 8-6 loss against the Dodgers.

Gyorko crushed a Kevin Correia pitch 413 feet over the center field wall in the first inning to plate Abraham Almonte and Seth Smith and give San Diego an early 3-0 lead. He didn't reach again until a ninth inning single off Kenley Jansen. That hit momentarily made the affair very interesting, but Almonte was thrown out after rounding third to end the game. Gyorko remains hot since returning from the disabled list (plantar fasciitis) in late July, going 24-for-77 (.312) with four homers, five doubles and 20 RBI.
Aug 20 - 1:50 AM

Jedd Gyorko finished 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBI in Saturday's 9-5 defeat of the Cardinals.

St. Louis jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, but the Padres answered back with four runs in the top of the third (with the help of a Gyorko RBI single). Gyorko then slugged a grand slam in the seventh inning off Cardinals reliever Kevin Siegrist, just before a lengthy rain delay. Gyorko has been on fire since returning from a bad case of plantar fasciitis and looks poised to finish the 2014 season on a positive binge.
Aug 17 - 12:40 AM

Jedd Gyorko had one of his best performances of the season, going 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored in Wednesday's win against the Rockies.

It's Gyorko's first four-hit game of the season, and he was one of only two Padres to accrue multiple hits on the evening. The second baseman has been performing much better at the plate since coming off of the disabled list on July 28. He now has a .333 average (19-for-57) in 15 games since his activation. A surge over the remaining 43 games could help pull up his sagging numbers. He carries a disappointing .199/.251/.326 slash line with seven home runs and 35 RBI.
Aug 13 - 9:52 PM

Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-5 with two RBI in Sunday's win over the Pirates.

Gyorko delivered a two-run single to extend the Padres' lead in the ninth inning. The second baseman is 13-for-45 (.289) with 11 RBI since returning from the disabled list in late July. A miserable first half has his line at .185/.240/.309, but Gyorko is more talented than that line would indicate.
Aug 10 - 5:14 PM

Jedd Gyorko finished 3-for-5 with a double, solo homer, four RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 12-1 thrashing of St. Louis.

Ladies and gentleman, we've officially received signs of life from the 25-year-old second baseman. Gyorko hit just .162/.213/.270 in 221 plate appearances before missing close to two months with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Since his activation on Monday, he's gone 6-for-11 (.545). Gyorko is owned in only 33-percent of Yahoo leagues, a number that isn't high enough. Based on the offensive chops he showed as a rookie -- including a .249/.301 /.444 slash line and 23 homers, which earned a five-year, $35 million contract extension -- it's not out of the question that the former top prospect could thrive over the next few months.
Jul 31 - 1:36 AM

Padres activated 2B Jedd Gyorko from the 15-day disabled list.

Gyorko wound up missing close to two months with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. He was batting just .162/.213/.270 in 221 plate appearances before the injury, but the 25-year-old second baseman is capable of much better down the stretch. Gyorko signed a five-year, $35 million contract extension with the Friars in early April.

Jedd Gyorko (plantar fasciitis) will be activated from the disabled list on Monday.

He has completed a minor league rehab stint with Triple-A El Paso and deemed ready to return. Before hitting the shelf in early June, he had hit just .162/.213/.270 with five homers and 24 RBI in his first 56 games.

Jedd Gyorko (plantar fasciitis) has joined Triple-A El Paso to begin his minor league rehab assignment.

Jul 18 - 8:56 PM

Jedd Gyorko (plantar fasciitis) began running at the Padres' spring training complex Thursday.

It's the first time he's done so since landing on the disabled list and is obviously a big step as he works his way back from plantar fasciitis. Gyorko remains several weeks away from a return, but he's moving in the right direction.
Jul 10 - 8:28 PM

Jedd Gyorko (plantar fasciitis) remains several weeks away from a return.

The good news is that Gyorko, according to Padres manager Bud Black, "had a good day" Tuesday as he resumed baseball activities at the team's spring training complex. The second baseman performed throwing exercises, took some swings and tested his injured left foot by running in a pool. "I want to know when he puts his spikes on and runs," said Black. "I've never seen anybody play baseball in a pool."
