Padres manager Bud Black suggested Jedd Gyorko and Yangervis Solarte may split time at second base going forward.
"As we go through the season, there's going to be games where Solarte starts and Jedd starts. Maybe (Cory) Spangenberg," Black said. "Solarte, we like the way he can move around the diamond. You could see him at first, you could see him at third, you could see him at second. So he's going to get his playing time. So is Jedd. And maybe Spangy might be in there (Thursday). ... "You've got to use your whole bench, you've got to use your whole team." Gyorko hasn't done anything to hold down the position, batting .163/.250/.209 through 12 games. He was an accomplished hitter in the minors but has struggled to hit for average throughout his time in the majors. Apr 22 - 9:08 PM

Jedd Gyorko is back in the Padres' starting lineup on Wednesday night versus the Diamondbacks.

Gyorko had been benched for three straight games in favor of Yangervis Solarte. It looks like there's a platoon at second base now in San Diego, which is always bad for fantasy purposes. Gyorko, 26, has batted just .207/.277/.325 over his last 117 games.
Apr 15 - 5:29 PM

Jedd Gyorko is absent from the Padres' lineup Tuesday for the third straight game.

It's probably safe to say at this point that Gyorko is on the short side of a platoon at second base, as Yangervis Solarte is getting his third straight start at the position versus a right-hander. You can hardly blame the Padres for the decision, as Gyorko is off to a .143/.217/.190 start this season after last year's .210/.280/.333 debacle. Solarte is hitting .368/.400/.526.
Apr 14 - 6:38 PM

Jedd Gyorko remained out of the Padres' lineup again on Monday.

It's the second straight game and third time in the last six contests that Gyorko has sat in favor of Yangervis Solarte. Gyorko is batting just .143/.217/.190 so far this season and could, at the very least, be in a platoon situation at second base with Solarte at this point. Solarte is off to a .333/.375/.467 start.
Apr 13 - 6:47 PM

Jedd Gyorko went 1-for-2 with a walk and a three-run home run on Wednesday against the White Sox.

Gyorko's three-run home run off of Jeff Samardzija capped off a five-run outburst in the first inning. The 26-year-old has had a solid spring showing, batting .283 (15-for-53) with a pair of home runs and six RBI. With a revamped Padres offense, Gyorko is less integral, but they are still hoping to see a bounce-back from last year's disappointing .612 OPS.
Apr 1 - 6:46 PM

Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-3 and drove home a pair of runs on Sunday as the Padres bested the Mariners 8-5 in Cactus League action.

Gyorko plated a run with an RBI single in the first inning then repeated the process again in the third. The two-hit effort raises his spring average to .250 (12-for-48), though he has just one homer and three RBI. He's looking to rebound from a dreadful 2014 season where he hit just .210/.280/.333 with 10 long balls in 111 games.
Mar 29 - 10:14 PM

Jedd Gyorko went 0-for-2 with a walk as the Padres eked out a 2-0 win against the Rangers on Saturday.

Gyorko's spring average is down to .211 (4-for-19). He's coming off of a disappointing 2014 campaign in which he hit just .210/.280/.333 with 10 home runs and 51 RBI. The Padres are expecting a bounce-back campaign from the 26-year-old.
Mar 14 - 7:07 PM

Jedd Gyorko collected a pair of hits as the Padres dropped their season finale to the Giants on Sunday in San Francisco.

Gyorko finished the afternoon 2-for-3 and also drew a walk. His disappointing and injury-plagued season comes to an end hitting a mere .210/.280/.333 with 10 homers and 51 RBI in 111 games. He'll be a popular bounce-back candidate in next spring's drafts.

Jedd Gyorko is not in the Padres' lineup Tuesday.

It's just a day of rest. Cory Spangenberg is handling second base in Gyorko's place.
Tue, Sep 16, 2014 06:25:00 PM

Jedd Gyorko finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 6-3 win against the Dodgers.

This was Gyorko's third multi-hit game in his past four games, and his second multi-RBI game during that stretch. This was his first homer since August 19. Mostly due to a rotten start, he's slashing .203/.263/.335 on the year.

Jedd Gyorko doubled and singled in Monday's 3-1 win over the Diamondbacks.

Gyorko doubled (his eleventh) off of Diamondbacks starter Trevor Cahill. Gyorko's been awful this year, slashing just .197/.257/.325. It's a far step down from his decent .249/.301/.444 rookie campaign. Not only is he down in the slash categories, but he also has just nine home runs this season, as compared to 23 last year.

Jedd Gyorko returned to the Padres' lineup Tuesday.

Gyorko missed three straight starts due to left hamstring discomfort, but he's feeling good enough now to give it a go. The second baseman entered play Tuesday with two homers and eight RBI over his last four starts.

Jedd Gyorko (hamstring) grounded out as a pinch-hitter on Monday against the Brewers.

Gyorko has missed three straight starts due to left hamstring discomfort, but it's a good sign that he's been able to pinch-hit the past two days. Look for him to return to the lineup soon.
Tue, Aug 26, 2014 04:15:00 AM

Jedd Gyorko (hamstring) remained out of the Padres' lineup Monday.

The second baseman has been out of action three out of the last four games due to a left hamstring strain. The good news is that Gyorko went through all pre-game activities and could be back in the lineup on Tuesday.

Jedd Gyorko (hamstring) is not in Sunday's lineup.

He's now missed two out of the last three contests after tweaking his left hamstring on Thursday. It's possible he'll be available to pinch-hit, and the Padres are confident that he will not need a trip to the disabled list.
