Jedd Gyorko (plantar fasciitis) remains several weeks away from a return.
The good news is that Gyorko, according to Padres manager Bud Black, "had a good day" Tuesday as he resumed baseball activities at the team's spring training complex. The second baseman performed throwing exercises, took some swings and tested his injured left foot by running in a pool. "I want to know when he puts his spikes on and runs," said Black. "I've never seen anybody play baseball in a pool." Jul 9 - 11:03 AM

Jedd Gyorko (plantar fasciitis) took soft toss cuts Saturday.

Gyorko has been out since early June with plantar fasciitis. He had the boot on his left foot removed Tuesday and has begun his strength and stretching program. The second baseman will move his rehab to the Padres' spring training complex next week and could be ready for minor league rehab games pretty soon.

Jedd Gyorko (plantar fasciitis) will begin a strength and stretching program after having the boot on his left foot removed on Tuesday.

"I feel human again," Gyorko said after getting the boot removed. There's no timetable for the second baseman's return, but obviously this is a nice step in the right direction. He's been out since early June due to plantar fasciitis.
Jul 1 - 7:42 PM

Jedd Gyorko (plantar fasciitis) will have the boot on his left foot removed on Tuesday so that he can undergo an exam.

For what it's worth, Gyorko said he's "not letting them put it back on." We'll have to see about that, though. The second baseman has been on the shelf since early June due to plantar fasciitis in his foot, but we should have a better idea as to his timetable after Tuesday's exam.
Jun 30 - 7:26 PM

Jedd Gyorko (plantar fasciitis) is back in a cast.

Gyorko had the protective boot removed from his left foot Wednesday, but he's simply not progressing as hoped. It's another blow in what has been a very frustrating season for him and the Padres. There's no timetable for his return.
Jun 19 - 4:33 PM

Jedd Gyorko (plantar fasciitis) had the protective boot removed from his left foot Wednesday.

It's obviously a big step for the Padres' second baseman, but he is still sore and quite a ways from playing in live games. Gyorko has been on the disabled list since June 3 with painful plantar fasciitis in his left foot. There is no exact timetable for his return to San Diego's roster.
Jun 18 - 8:01 PM

Padres manager Bud Black said Tuesday that Jedd Gyorko (plantar fasciitis) is not close to returning from the disabled list.

Gyorko might shed his walking boot on Friday, but Black said that his foot "isn’t healing very quickly." The struggling second baseman has been sidelined since June 3 with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
Jun 17 - 2:36 PM

Padres placed 2B Jedd Gyorko on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 4, with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

Plantar fasciitis injuries can be tricky, so there's no telling how long Gyorko will be sidelined. At the very least, he figures to miss more than the minimum two weeks. The second baseman is off to a horrible start this season, batting just .162/.213/.270 in 56 games.
Jun 6 - 4:56 PM

Jedd Gyorko could be headed to the disabled list due to a flareup of the plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

Gyorko told reporters Wednesday night that the discomfort has only worsened, and it'll probably take an extended period of rest before he begins feeling better. The second baseman is off to a horrible start this season, batting just .162/.213/.270 in 56 games. He signed a five-year, $35 million contract with the Padres in mid-April.
Jun 4 - 10:43 PM

Jedd Gyorko is out of Saturday's lineup against the White Sox after going 0-for-4 last night.

It appears to be just a day off for the struggling second baseman. Gyorko is still hitting just .169 for the year, though at least he's been better this month (.186, 4 HR, 15 RBI) than he was in April (.156, 1 HR, 9 RBI).
May 31 - 11:51 AM

Jedd Gyorko had an RBI double in a win over the Cubs on Sunday.

The double was Gyorko's only hit in three at-bats. He hasn't had much to get excited about this season, but the double was his fourth in the last eight games. He's got at least one hit in six of those eight games but is still hitting just .169 with a .510 OPS this year.
May 25 - 9:05 PM

Jedd Gyorko went hitless in Friday's loss to the Rockies, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout.

The disappointing night drops his season slash to a disappointing .150/.205/.272. He does have five homers and 20 RBI, but until he is able to make more consistent contact, fantasy owners with better options available may consider benching the slugging second baseman until he gets it going.
May 16 - 11:50 PM

Jedd Gyorko had a two-run homer and a grand slam off Jose Fernandez on Friday to lead the Padres to a 10-1 win over the Marlins.

Well, how about that? Gyorko entered the night with a .146 average, and he was 0-for-13 in his previous three games. He hadn't had a multihit game since April 8, and he hadn't even drawn a walk since April 23. But a night like this could wipe out the slump for good. The slam was just his second career hit in 14 at-bats with the bases loaded, but both have been grand slams.
May 10 - 1:59 AM

Padres activated 2B Jedd Gyorko from the paternity leave list.

Gyorko missed two games to be with his wife Karley as she gave birth to twin boys. The second baseman signed a five-year, $35 million extension with the Padres on April 14.
Apr 30 - 5:52 PM

Jedd Gyorko is expected back from the paternity list Wednesday.

Gyorko is eligible to miss three games, but he'll come back a day early. It will certainly be a welcomed addition given how much the Padres' offense has struggled.
