Gyorko has homered in his last two starts after going his first nine appearances without a homer. He's sporting a .975 OPS in 27 at-bats, giving him a 300-point edge over Jhonny Peralta as those two compete for a starting job. Peralta is currently in a 1-for-13 slump. Mar 16 - 4:05 PM

Jedd Gyorko hit a two-run homer off Charlie Morton and walked Monday against the Astros.

It was the first spring homer for Gyorko, who hit 30 in the regular season last year. He's pulled ahead of Jhonny Peralta offensively as they compete for playing time; he has a .925 OPS this spring, while Peralta has fallen to .744. It's still too early to read much into that, though.

Jedd Gyorko doubled twice and knocked in a run as the Cardinals topped the Braves 9-4 on Thursday.

Gyorko is off to a 5-for-9 start in his competition with Jhonny Peralta for the starting job at third base. After his 30-homer campaign in 2016, he seems like the better option from here.
Mar 2 - 4:19 PM

Jedd Gyorko blasted a go-ahead solo homer in the eighth inning on Saturday, powering the Cardinals to a much-needed 4-3 victory over the Pirates.

With the victory, the Cardinals now sit just 1/2 game back of the Giants in their race for the final wild card berth in the National League, with the Giants set to take on Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers on Saturday night. The Cardinals rallied from a 3-0 deficit with three runs in the sixth inning, setting the stage for Gyorko's dramatic blast in the eighth. He has been a tremendous source of power in the middle of the Cardinals lineup, slashing .242/.304/.496 with 30 bombs and 58 RBI.

Jedd Gyorko socked a solo homer and drew a walk in Friday’s win over the Pirates.

Gyorko was acquired from the Padres over the winter to serve in a utility infielder role this season, but he leads the Cardinals with 29 homers. 22 of them have come in the second half. Only Brian Dozier has hit more homers in that time.

Jedd Gyorko hit his 28th homer of the season in Thursday's win over the Reds.

Gyorko connected with a Dan Straily pitch in the second inning for the solo dong, his only hit in four at-bats. The hit was just his second in his last 20 at-bats, as the 28-year-old has fallen into a bit of a slump as the season draws to a close. Even so, it will go down as a career year for Gyorko, who is hitting .238/.300/.482 with those 28 homers, 56 RBI and 54 runs scored in 125 games.

Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in a win over the Rockies on Tuesday.

Gyorko assaulted a Jorge De La Rosa 3-0 offering in the fourth inning, hitting it out to straight-away center. The homer was Gyorko's 27th of the year, continuing to up his single-season record, and he's got 54 RBI and 53 runs scored to go with a .246/.309/.495 line.

Jedd Gyorko swatted his 24th home run of the season Tuesday, and the Cardinals edged the Brewers 2-1 in 10 innings.

Gyorko's homer, a solo job, came in the sixth inning to give the Cardinals a fleeting lead. He's now homered in back to back games and four of his last six. The power isn't new -- he hit 23 homers in his rookie season with the Padres in 2013 -- but it is a bit unexpected after Gyorko combined to hit just 26 dingers over his previous two seasons. The 27-year-old has a month left to continue to build on what's already a single-season best for his career.

Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer Sunday in the Cardinals' 9-0 pounding of the Phillies.

Gyorko doubled and scored in the Cardinals' three-run fourth inning and then went deep to right-center off Phillies reliever Frank Herrmann in the Cardinals' four-run eighth. The 27-year-old infielder now has 20 home runs on the season, in just 272 at-bats. That is a homer for every 13.6 at-bats. Another terrific under-the-radar acquisition for Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak.

Jedd Gyorko slugged a game-tying two-run homer off Jeanmar Gomez in the ninth inning Friday against the Phillies.

The Cardinals went on to win the game after Randal Grichuk doubled home Jhonny Peralta in the top of the 11th and Alex Reyes shut down the Phillies in the bottom of the frame for his first career save. Gyorko went 2-for-5 on the night and now has 19 homers on the year. 12 of them have come in his last 29 games.

Jedd Gyorko hit a three-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Astros.

Gyorko took former Cardinals reliever Pat Neshek deep in the sixth inning to extend the Cardinals' lead. The home run was the 18th of the year for Gyorko, who now has 40 RBI. He's already surpassed his home run total from last year, and Gyorko has a shot at his rookie total of 23 dingers if things break right for him over the final month and a half. The 27-year-old is hitting .248/.312/.488 overall.

Jedd Gyorko homered in both halves of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets.

He also homered in both halves of a doubleheader last Wednesday versus the Padres and he now has seven home runs in his last nine games. Gyorko probably isn't going to finish this season with an .800-plus OPS -- it's at .814 right now -- but he does have pretty good power and he's probably going to keep playing regularly for St. Louis. There's reason to grab him and start him in deeper mixed leagues.

Jedd Gyorko continued to terrorize his former club, blasting a pair of home runs to power the Cardinals to a 3-2 victory in the nightcap of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Gyorko tagged Padres starter Paul Clemens for a solo homer in the third inning then added on a two-run blast in the fifth. He also left the yard in the first game of Wednesday's twin-bill. Oh, and he went 3-for-3 and homered in the first game of the series on Monday as well. Gyorko finished the nightcap 3-for-4 and is now 8-for-10 with four homers and six RBI in the first three games of the four-game series.
Wed, Jul 20, 2016 11:34:00 PM

Jedd Gyorko tormented his former team Monday, going 3-for-3 with a solo home run in a win over the Padres.

Gyorko followed Randal Grichuk's longball in the seventh inning with a dinger of his own. He also drew a walk, reaching base in all four trips to the plate. With a .252/.311/.429 batting line and eight home runs, Gyorko has given the Cardinals pretty much what they should've expected from him as a part-time player.
Tue, Jul 19, 2016 12:13:00 AM

Jedd Gyorko will start at first base Monday versus the Royals.

Gyorko will get the call with left-hander Danny Duffy on the hill for Kansas City. Matt Holliday will serve as the designated hitter while Brandon Moss gets a start in left field. Gyorko is batting eighth Monday.
