Jedd Gyorko slugged a pair of home runs, providing all three runs in Tuesday's loss to the Nationals.
Gyorko gave the Padres a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but it wasn't a lead they would hold for long. He followed up in the seventh inning with a solo home run, but it only cut the Padres' deficit from six to five runs. Gyorko's numbers are still below sea level, but it's an improvement over 2014 at the least. He's hitting .240/.301/.389 with 10 home runs and 37 RBI. Aug 25 - 10:32 PM

Jedd Gyorko is starting at shortstop for the Padres on Monday versus the Braves.

He's never played the position before as a pro. Of course, neither had Will Middlebrooks and the Padres have started him at shortstop on four occasions this season. It seems unlikely that this is more than a token appearance at shortstop for Gyorko.
Aug 17 - 6:43 PM

Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-4 with a two-run single and a two-run home run as the Padres pounded the Reds in Tuesday's win.

Gyorko got the scoring started with a two-run single in the first inning, then capped off a five-run third inning with a two-run home run to make it 8-0. The second baseman is on a five-game hitting streak, bringing his triple-slash line up to .235/.296/.356 with seven home runs and 28 RBI.
Aug 12 - 1:04 AM

Jedd Gyorko went 3-for-5 with an RBI single and a solo home run as the Padres defeated the Brewers on Monday.

Gyorko pushed the Padres' lead to 5-2 with an RBI single in the third inning, then whacked a solo home run off of Michael Blazek in the fifth to make it a 7-2 game. The mercurial infielder is batting .239/.301/.362 with six home runs and 23 RBI. His triple-slash line represents a modest improvement over last year's struggles.
Aug 3 - 11:34 PM

Jedd Gyorko went 3-for-4 and drove home three runs on Friday as the Padres topped the Marlins 8-3 in 11 innings.

Gyorko tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single in the fourth inning and delivered a two-run single as part of a five-run uprising in the 11th. While he has picked up the pace offensively in recent weeks, he is still hitting just .233/.296/.350 with 21 RBI on the year.
Jul 31 - 11:31 PM

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Padres are shopping Jedd Gyorko "hard."

Gyorko is batting just .212/.279/.333 in 652 plate appearances since the beginning of the 2014 season. That's right around the time he signed a five-year, $35 million contract extension with the Padres coming off a 2013 campaign in which he tallied 23 home runs and 63 RBI. The 26-year-old second baseman probably isn't going to draw much interest on his own, but maybe the Friars can throw him into a package with one of their more attractive trade chips.
Jul 27 - 10:05 AM

Jedd Gyorko hit his fifth home run of the season Wednesday against the Giants.

Gyorko finished the game 1-for-4 with the solo homer. Power was supposed to be the second baseman's calling card, but it has dwindled quickly after he mashed 23 homers in his rookie season in 2013. Gyorko is batting just .222/.284/.350 through 63 games this year.
Jul 22 - 7:06 PM

Jedd Gyorko hit a game-tying homer in the seventh inning and a go-ahead RBI single in the ninth to help lead the Padres to a 2-1 win over the Cardinals on Friday.

Gyorko was just called up on June 30 to help fill in for the injured Cory Spangenberg (knee). He showed his worth on Friday when he homered off of the ever-dominant Michael Wacha in the seventh inning to tie the game at 1-1. He then helped ensure things wouldn't move to extras when he singled home Yangervis Solarte in the ninth inning to put the Padres up 2-1. Gyorko hit .283/.368/.500 with four home runs in 15 games for Triple-A El Paso after being sent down in early June and should see his share of playing time in the near future, though there's little to love on the fantasy front here.
Jul 4 - 1:21 AM

Padres recalled INF Jedd Gyorko from Triple-A El Paso.

He'll replace the injured Cory Spangenberg (knee) on the active roster and figures to see at least part-time at-bats at second base. The 26-year-old was batting just .210/.282/.311 prior to his demotion earlier this month, but he was swinging the bat well during his time in Triple-A.
Jun 30 - 2:56 PM

Jedd Gyorko will be recalled prior to Tuesday's game versus the Mariners.

The Padres are expected to place someone on the disabled list, with Will Middlebrooks (ankle) and Cory Spangenberg (knee) being the most likely options. Gyorko has hit .283/.368/.500 with four homers over 15 games for Triple-A El Paso after being sent down earlier this month. He could wind up seeing a decent amount of playing time, depending on what the club's corresponding move is.
Jun 29 - 11:12 PM

Padres optioned INF Jedd Gyorko to Triple-A El Paso.

Gyorko hasn't been playing much and has batted just .210/.282/.311 this season when he has gotten an opportunity. He's hit just .210/.280/.328 since the beginning of last season after a nice rookie year.
Jun 10 - 3:14 PM

Jedd Gyorko did everything in pairs Wednesday, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in the Padres' lopsided win over the Giants.

Gyorko had an RBI single in the third inning before smashing a run-scoring double in the eighth. It was a good showing for the embattled second baseman, who has seen his job challenged by Yangervis Solarte and Cory Spangenberg in recent weeks. Gyorko is the most talented hitter of the group, so if he can get right at the plate he should hold onto the gig going forward.
May 6 - 7:34 PM

Padres manager Bud Black suggested Jedd Gyorko and Yangervis Solarte may split time at second base going forward.

"As we go through the season, there's going to be games where Solarte starts and Jedd starts. Maybe (Cory) Spangenberg," Black said. "Solarte, we like the way he can move around the diamond. You could see him at first, you could see him at third, you could see him at second. So he's going to get his playing time. So is Jedd. And maybe Spangy might be in there (Thursday). ... "You've got to use your whole bench, you've got to use your whole team." Gyorko hasn't done anything to hold down the position, batting .163/.250/.209 through 12 games. He was an accomplished hitter in the minors but has struggled to hit for average throughout his time in the majors.
Apr 22 - 9:08 PM

Jedd Gyorko is back in the Padres' starting lineup on Wednesday night versus the Diamondbacks.

Gyorko had been benched for three straight games in favor of Yangervis Solarte. It looks like there's a platoon at second base now in San Diego, which is always bad for fantasy purposes. Gyorko, 26, has batted just .207/.277/.325 over his last 117 games.
Apr 15 - 5:29 PM

Jedd Gyorko is absent from the Padres' lineup Tuesday for the third straight game.

It's probably safe to say at this point that Gyorko is on the short side of a platoon at second base, as Yangervis Solarte is getting his third straight start at the position versus a right-hander. You can hardly blame the Padres for the decision, as Gyorko is off to a .143/.217/.190 start this season after last year's .210/.280/.333 debacle. Solarte is hitting .368/.400/.526.
