Tyler Pastornicky - 2B - Braves

Braves recalled INF Tyler Pastornicky from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Pastornicky, 23, batted .243/.287/.325 with two homers and a .613 OPS in 188 plate appearances in his first taste of the majors last season. He's expected to function as a utility player, so it's unlikely he'll be fantasy relevant.

ESPN's Jim Bowden reports that the Blue Jays have inquired about the Braves' Tyler Pastornicky.

The Blue Jays are looking for middle infield depth following the Jose Reyes injury. Pastornicky was originally drafted by Toronto but was dealt to Atlanta in the Yunel Escobar trade. The Jays will use Maicer Izturis as their primary shortstop for now.

This is quite a contrast to last year, when Pastornicky opened the season as the Braves' starting shortstop. While Andrelton Simmons has passed him on the depth chart, the 23-year-old could still end up being a useful bench player down the road.

Tyler Pastornicky continued his hot spring Thursday, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

The Braves opted to retain Paul Janish and sign Ramiro Pena over the winter, leaving no room on the roster for Pastornicky. He remains a long shot to make the team even with Janish now set to start the year on the DL. Still, he's been impressive in hitting .404/.475/.615 with 13 RBI in 52 at-bats. He might turn into a nice piece of trade bait if he keeps hitting in the minors.

Tyler Pastornicky delivered a pinch-hit RBI fielder's choice in the ninth inning on Friday, delivering the Braves a 2-1 walk-off victory over the Nationals.

Pastornicky was called upon to hit for Craig Kimbrel with runners at first and third with one out in the ninth. He grounded the first pitch he saw to the shortstop, but Ian Desmond threw it away attempting to turn the double play. Pastornicky has been limited to a mere 19 at-bats over his 26 games in the second half of the season. He'll continue to serve in a utility role while Andrelton Simmons handles the bulk of the playing time at shortstop.

Tyler Pastornicky fielded balls in the outfield prior to Wednesday’s game.

The Braves are prepping him for a possible utility role, though there's no guarantee he'll be with the big club long enough to see time in the outfield. "If he stays up here long enough, you may see him out there in left field one game," manager Fredi Gonzalez said.

Tyler Pastornicky - 2B - Braves

Braves recalled SS Tyler Pastornicky from Triple-A Gwinnett.

He's replacing Andrelton Simmons on the active roster. Pastornicky was demoted in June after posting a .248/.281/.324 batting line across 154 plate appearances. The fact that he was recalled doesn't rule out the possibility the Braves could eventually acquire a shortstop. Martin Prado is starting at shortstop Saturday against the Mets.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said that Tyler Pastornicky will play some second base and outfield, in addition to shortstop, while with Triple-A Gwinnett.

Pastornicky was optioned to the minors this week after .248/.281/.324 across 154 plate appearances while playing subpar defense. While he might not be the "shortstop of the future," the Braves could get some value out of him as a utility man.

Andrelton Simmons will be called up from Double-A and take over at shortstop. Pastornicky has batted just .248/.281/.324 with one homer this season while playing shaky defense at shortstop, so we can't blame the Braves for shaking things up.

Tyler Pastornicky went 3-for-3 with a walk and scored the go-ahead run in the ninth as the Braves edged the Dodgers 4-3 on Tuesday.

Pastornicky came around to score on Martin Prado's triple after his third hit of the day. The rookie shortstop had been held out of the lineup three straight days prior to this one. After this one, his lineup spot should be secure for a few games.

Tyler Pastornicky was held out of the starting lineup Monday for the third straight day.

Pastornicky is batting just .175/.214/.325 over his 43 plate appearances, so he has spent extra time working with hitting coaches Greg Walker and assistant Scott Fletcher over the past few days. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez opted to use Jack Wilson again Monday because of his previous success against Dodgers' left-hander Chris Capuano, but Pastornicky is expected to play the next two games.

Tyler Pastornicky has been out the past two games.

The 22-year-old rookie isn't injured, but he's batting just 175/.214/.325 in 43 plate appearances. "He’ll probably play the next couple of days, maybe all three in L.A.," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Sunday. Jack Wilson filled in at shortstop on Saturday and Sunday.

Tyler Pastornicky - 2B - Braves

Tyler Pastornicky has won the Braves' starting shortstop job.

That was the plan coming in, but Andrelton Simmons looked like a possible threat for the job until about a week ago. Pastornicky, who was acquired from the Blue Jays in the Yunel Escobar deal, batted .314/.359/.414 with seven homers, 45 RBI, 27 stolen bases and a .773 OPS between Double- and Triple-A last season. We're not banking on a high batting average as a rookie and hitting eighth may hurt his chances of racking up stolen bases. The 22-year-old is only worth a modest bid in NL-only formats.

Tyler Pastornicky - 2B - Braves

Tyler Pastornicky went 1-for-2 with three walks Sunday as the Braves and Phillies played to a 7-7 tie.

Pastornicky's improved play, combined with Andrelton Simmons missing some time recently, will likely settle the matter at shortstop for the Braves. We're guessing Simmons will earn a crack at the job later, but Pastornicky will be the starter initially. He's just a $1-$2 player in NL-only leagues.

	4	Jordan Walden D.L. Jordan Walden (shoulder) will not be ready to be activated from the disabled list next Monday.
