Presley had 10 home runs and nine stolen bases in 104 games last season with the Pirates, but he probably won't play enough to hold fantasy value this time around.

Pirates outfielder Alex Presley doubled twice and walked twice against the Twins on Saturday.

Jose Tabata is struggling and Presley is coming on, collecting six hits in his last 16 at-bats. It's probably not going to matter much, since Presley has options and Tabata and Travis Snider don't. As a result, Presley is likely to open the season in Triple-A.

Presley was out for several games after taking a Carlos Marmol pitch off his toe last Friday. The 27-year-old outfielder should get a couple of starts down the stretch.

Presley has been a pretty big disappointment at the major league level this season, batting just .234/.275/.387 with a .661 OPS in 77 games. He'll serve as an extra outfielder in September.

Presley hasn't played much recently following the promotion to Starling Marte and the acquisition of Travis Snider, so he's better off getting regular playing time in the minors. After being hyped as a sleeper in fantasy leagues this spring, the 27-year-old is batting just .234/.275/.387 with a .661 OPS in 77 games this season.

Alex Presley connected on a solo home run off Armando Galarraga in the second inning on Saturday, helping to lead the Pirates to a 4-3 victory.

Presley finished the night 1-for-3 plus a walk. He has seen his playing time slowly decrease since returning from the DL on July 16 and should continue to do so with the emergence of Starling Marte. Even with the strong effort Saturday, he's hitting just .205 (8-for-39) with two homers and three RBI in that time frame, and remains a sketchy option in deeper mixed leagues.

Presley went 4-for-8 with a walk and two strikeouts in two rehab games with Triple-A Indianapolis. The 26-year-old has been sidelined since July 3 with concussion symptoms caused by an attempted diving catch. Matt Hague was sent down to the minors in a corresponding roster move.

Alex Presley (concussion) passed his baseline tests Saturday and was cleared to increase his physical activity.

"It's improved," Presley said. "When I moved around a bunch early on, it bothered me. Walking, getting up too fast. It got better every day. ... I expected it to get better fairly quickly, which has happened." Presley remains without a timetable to return, but it's clear he's improving.

Pirates placed OF Alex Presley on the 7-day disabled list, retroactive to July 4, with a concussion.

With the All-Star break coming up, it made no sense to try to rush him back. It's not clear at this point how long Presley might be out. Jordy Mercer has taken his spot on the active roster.

Alex Presley (concussion-like symptoms) is not in Wednesday's lineup.

Presley left Tuesday's game with concussion-like symptoms after trying to making a diving catch in left field. The Pirates are currently waiting on test results. Drew Sutton will start in his place Wednesday while Garret Jones plays right.

Presley hurt himself while diving for a ball in the first inning. He'll be evaluated further, but with the All-Star break coming up, a trip to the 7-day DL seems likely.

Alex Presley - OF - Pirates

Alex Presley had a nice night on Saturday in Pittsburgh, going 2-for-5 with an RBI and a pair of stolen bases in the Pirates' 5-3 win over the visiting Royals.

Presley has now hit leadoff in each of his five games since returning to the big-league club, going 7-for-23 (.304) with a home run, two RBI and two steals. Owners in deeper fantasy leagues who are in need of speed might want to bid hard on the 26-year-old outfielder.
