Astros sent OF Alex Presley outright to Triple-A Fresno.
Presley isn't a bad potential extra outfielder option, but he passed through waivers likely because teams weren't willing to pay his $1 million price tag. He had the opportunity to refuse the outright assignment and become a free agent but declined since it would have meant forfeiting the aforementioned contract. Apr 8 - 1:21 PM

Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports that Alex Presley has hit outright waivers.

Presley was designated for assignment last week and can now be snatched up by any team willing to take on his $1 million salary for 2015. If he's not claimed, he will presumably remain with the organization. He'd lose his $1 million salary if he opts for free agency.

Astros designated OF Alex Presley for assignment.

The Astros would reportedly like to hang on to Presley, who can play all three outfield spots and offers flexibility, but it's possible that they attempt to trade him. While his bat is no great shakes (.244/.281/.346 last season), he's has value as a major league bench piece.

Astros and OF Alex Presley avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1 million contract.

Presley was arbitration-eligible for the first time as a Super Two player. MLBTradeRumors.com projected him to earn $1.2 million, so it looks like the Astros might have gotten a small discount. Presley is a career .259/.299/.395 hitter over parts of five seasons and can play all three outfield spots.

Alex Presley went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in a win over the Mariners Sunday.

Presley's handprint was all over the offense, as he had a two-run single in the fifth inning before singling and scoring in the seventh. Presley also stole a run in that seventh inning, his fifth of the season. The 29-year-old, who missed time with an oblique injury this season, is hitting .256/.295/.366 on the season.

Alex Presley returned to action on Friday, going 0-for-1 in a victory over the Athletics.

The best thing to take away from the ballgame is that he remained in the game to play left field defensively, meaning he should be ready to go for further action. He's expected to function as a bench player over the season's final month, so his value is limited to AL-only formats.

Alex Presley (oblique) said he may be available as a pinch hitter for Wednesday's game against the Angels.

Presley has missed close to two months with a strained right oblique, but it appears he's close. He took batting practice last week without issue, so his situation appears to be day-to-day at this point. He'll return as a bench player.

Alex Presley (oblique) will take batting practice on Friday.

It will be the first time he's done so since he had a setback with his right oblique strain earlier this month. The hope is that he'll be ready for activation next week. "That’s what I hope," Presley said. "I know we have an off-day on the first, which is nice. I’ll probably hit through the weekend and then see where it’s at after this weekend. I can’t predict how I’ll feel at this point, but I am feeling better."

Alex Presley (oblique) is hoping to take batting practice on Wednesday.

Presley took some flips on Tuesday and felt good. He's been out since July 8 with a strained right oblique. "As these injuries go, it hasn't taken really long," Presley said. "As far as the timetable goes, I'm probably around a week or so ahead. I didn't know what to expect with this. It's definitely one of those things that's frustrating because you have to do nothing for a while and work on little stuff. I'm actually getting back to some of the fun stuff, and I'm looking forward to that."
