The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has appealed the dismissal of criminal sexual conduct charges against Evan Reed.

The appeal will be heard Friday morning. Reed, 28, was accused of raping a 45-year-old woman on March 30 in a hotel room at Motor City Casino. He was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, but all of the charges were dismissed in August. Reed elected free agency earlier this month after being removed from the Tigers' 40-man roster.

The Tigers will call up right-hander Evan Reed from Triple-A Toledo prior to Friday's game.

Aug 28 - 4:31 PM

The sexual assault charges against Evan Reed have been dismissed.

Reed had been charged with two counts of third-degree sexual assault as a result of an incident that occurred on March 30 in a Detroit hotel room. Allegedly, the pitcher met a 45-year-old woman at a bar, took her back to his room, and assaulted her. Prosecutors, however, failed to convince the judge there was probable cause that a crime was committed -- mostly because of a lack of evidence. Reed could have faced up to 15 years behind bars if the case had gone to trial.

Evan Reed has been charged with two counts of third-degree sexual assault as a result of an incident that occurred on March 30 in a Motor City Casino hotel room.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said that he has interview numerous witnesses and also reviewed surveillance footage before the charges were brought. Reed, who is currently at Triple-A Toledo, is expected to turn himself into the authorities.

Reed put up a 23/9 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 relief innings for the Tigers this season, but it also came along with a 4.91 ERA. There's a chance the 28-year-old could draw some interest on waivers, though the potential sexual assault charge hanging over his head might scare teams off.
