Angels signed RHP Robert Coello to a minor league contract.

He's been given an invitation to spring training, where he'll hope to win a long relief role. Coello, 28, didn't pitch in the second half of 2012 because of a right elbow injury, but he's apparently fine now.

Coello was outrighted off the Blue Jays' 40-man roster earlier this week and declined a spot at Triple-A Las Vegas. The 27-year-old right-hander didn't pitch in the second half of 2012 because of a right elbow injury.

Blue Jays transferred RHP Robert Coello from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Coello has been out since late June with inflammation in his right elbow. He'll now be ineligible to return until late August.

He'll take the place of Aaron Laffey in the Blue Jays' bullpen. Coello, 27, has a 3.22 ERA and 38/17 K/BB ratio in 36 1/3 innings over 15 relief appearances and two starts at the Triple-A level this year. Look for him in middle relief.

Coello had a pretty decent year splitting his time between the rotation and the bullpen at Double- and Triple-A in the Cubs organization in 2011, holding a 4.19 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 8.5 K/9 rate over 116 frames. He'll likely serve as Triple-A bullpen depth for the Jays.

Cubs acquired RHP Robert Coello from the Red Sox for INF Tony Thomas.

Coello was designated for assignment by the Red Sox last week. The 26-year-old right-hander earned a September call-up last season after posting a 3.86 ERA over 107 1/3 innings between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket. He averaged 10.9 K/9 working as both a starter and reliever last year, so he could be a nice little find as a middle reliever for the Cubbies.
