Indians recalled RHP Vinnie Pestano from Triple-A Columbus.

Pestano was optioned after just three relief appearances earlier this season, but he's righted the ship with a 1.78 ERA and 32/7 K/BB ratio over 25 1/3 Triple-A frames. He'll work in middle relief.

Indians optioned RHP Vinnie Pestano to Triple-A Columbus.

Pestano gets the boot after being knocked around for three runs -- one earned -- on three hits over two-thirds of an inning Tuesday. He holds a 13.50 ERA and 3.38 WHIP over three appearances this season. Pestano simply hasn't been the same guy since the beginning of last season and the Indians are hoping he can figure things out on the farm.
Apr 9 - 9:44 AM

Indians general manager Chris Antonetti announced Saturday that Vinnie Pestano has secured a spot on the team's Opening Day roster.

He's expected to work in the seventh inning, as a bridge to Cody Allen and John Axford closing out games. The 29-year-old has pitched well this spring, compiling a 1.50 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 5/2 K/BB ratio in six innings of work.
Mar 22 - 1:41 PM

Vinnie Pestano (elbow) will make his Cactus League debut on Monday when the Indians take on the Rangers.

The veteran right-hander threw a session of live batting practice on Friday and was encouraged by the results. He's expected to work in the seventh inning, helping to get the ball to Cody Allen and John Axford at the backend of the Tribe's bullpen.

Vinnie Pestano lost his arbitration hearing against the Indians and was awarded a $975,000 salary for 2014.

The 28-year-old reliever had requested a figure of $1.45 million from the Tribe. He'll continue to function in a setup capacity in front of the team's new closer, John Axford. His fantasy value will be minimal though unless he can work his way into save chances.
Feb 8 - 3:25 PM

Jordan Bastian of reports that Vinnie Pestano and the Indians are "currently at (a) standstill" in arbitration talks.

The reliever requested $1.45 million and was offered $975,000 from the Indians when arbitration figures were exchanged last month. Pestano's arbitration hearing is scheduled for Friday, and it sounds like there's a decent chance a hearing will be needed. He is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter.
Feb 3 - 2:37 PM

Indians pitching coach Mickey Callaway said Vinnie Pestano suffered an injury to his right elbow during last year's World Baseball Classic.

"I think some of that WBC injury really trained his arm to do something different than he's done in the past," Callaway said during Saturday's Tribe Fest. It was suspected that the WBC led to many of Pestano's issues on the mound last season, but this is the first time it's been acknowledged by a team official that he sustained an injury during the tournament. It explains why the 28-year-old went from being one of the game's best setup men to posting a 4.08 ERA and being demoted in July. With the injury behind him, Pestano should return to being an effective reliever in 2014.
Jan 25 - 10:41 PM

Vinnie Pestano requested $1.45 million and was offered $975,000 from the Indians when arbitration figures were exchanged on Friday.

Once the heir-apparent to the closer's role in Cleveland, Pestano is coming off a terribly disappointing 2013 season that saw his demotion to Triple-A mid-season. He'll earn a decent raise over the $501,900 that he netted during the 2013 season.
Jan 17 - 8:38 PM

Indians recalled RHP Vinnie Pestano from Triple-A Columbus.

Pestano, one of baseball's most underrated relievers over the last two years, has dealt with an elbow issue, diminished velocity, and prolonged struggles in 2013. He registered a 4.05 ERA and 1.53 ERA through 34 appearances before the Indians demoted him on July 31.

Indians optioned RHP Vinnie Pestano to Triple-A Columbus.

An expected move, Marc Rzepczynski will take his place on the active roster. It wasn't too long ago that Pestano was one of the more underrated relievers in the game, but he has a 4.05 ERA and 1.53 ERA through 34 appearances this season. He'll attempt to get back on track in the minors.
Wed, Jul 31, 2013 03:09:00 PM's Jordan Bastian reports that Vinnie Pestano will be optioned to Triple-A.

Pestano posted a 10.80 ERA in May, rebounded with a 2.08 ERA in June, but has struggled again to the tune of a 4.91 ERA in July. Indians manager Terry Francona removed Pestano from high-leverage situations, but it appears that Cleveland would prefer to do without him in low-leverage situations at the moment as well.
Tue, Jul 30, 2013 10:42:00 PM

Indians manager Terry Francona has removed Vinnie Pestano from his eighth inning role.

Pestano was knocked around in his most recent appearance on Sunday and hasn't been nearly as effective this season as he has been in the past, so Francona hopes that using him in lower-leverage situations will improve his confidence. Joe Smith will serve as the main set-up man for closer Chris Perez for now.

Vinnie Pestano worked a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his fifth save of the season on Wednesday.

Pestano set down the Orioles in order in the ninth, striking out two in the outing. Despite his shakiness at times, the right-hander has now notched five saves without blowing an opportunity in Chris Perez's stead. With Perez primed to rejoin the team on Thursday it will be interesting to see how Indians manager Terry Francona handles the ninth inning, but we're expecting Perez to inherit his old job upon return.
Wed, Jun 26, 2013 11:29:00 PM

Vinnie Pestano pitched a scoreless ninth Monday against the Orioles for his fourth save.

This one wasn't quite so hairy as Saturday's, when Pestano gave up two runs before escaping with a save, but he did give up a walk and a single with two outs to bring the tying run to the plate in a 5-2 game. He then got Manny Machado to line out to end it. Pestano's run in the closer's role will likely end soon with Chris Perez on the way back.
