Date:

Vinnie Pestano (elbow) is eyeing a return on May 17.

Pestano will resume throwing on Sunday and is scheduled for one rehab appearance next Wednesday. Assuming they go well, he'll be activated on May 17.
May 9 - 7:43 PM

Indians manager Terry Francona expects Vinnie Pestano (elbow) to only need about a week on the disabled list before being activated.

"He’ll probably only spend another week [on the DL] then be good to go," Francona said. "He got a [MRI] scan and it was clear." Pestano's DL move was backdated, so he'll be eligible to return on May 16. The elbow issue he's dealing with has been a problem off and on for a couple years, but the Indians are hoping this was just a small bump in the road.
May 7 - 11:21 PM

Vinnie Pestano said Monday that an MRI on his right elbow revealed no major issues from his previous Tommy John surgery.

Pestano has had to deal with elbow issues off and on the last two years. It forced him to the disabled list this time, but he's not worried. It's possible the setup man could be ready to go once his 15 days are up.
May 6 - 11:55 PM

Indians placed RHP Vinnie Pestano on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 1, with right elbow tendinitis.

The word on Sunday is that Pestano would likely be available to pitch Monday, but obviously the Indians have decided to play it safe. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined. Joe Smith and Bryan Shaw will now be Cleveland's primary right-handed setup men ahead of closer Chris Perez.
May 6 - 6:15 PM

Vinnie Pestano (elbow) is expected to be available for Monday's game against the Athletics.

Pestano has been shut down the last two days with a recurring elbow issue he's dealt the last two seasons. The Indians don't believe the injury is serious enough that he'll need to be placed on the disabled list. Pestano has a 2.25 ERA in eight appearances this year and will return to a setup role behind Chris Perez.
May 5 - 4:57 PM

Vinnie Pestano (elbow) said he felt better than expected while long-tossing from 120 feet Sunday.

There's still no word, though, about whether he'll be placed on the disabled list. "The decisions and everything else are out of my control," Pestano said. The reliever is nursing some elbow soreness, a condition he's had to deal with off and on over the last couple seasons.
May 5 - 11:29 AM

The Indians could place Vinnie Pestano (elbow) on the disabled list.

Pestano has dealt with a recurring elbow issue over the last two seasons, and it's left him unavailable over the last two days. He was able to play long-toss and throw 15 pitches off the mound Saturday, but he'll wait to see how he feels Sunday morning before a decision is made. Pestano hasn't pitched since Monday, so he could only miss about a week with a backdated DL move.
May 5 - 9:48 AM

Vinnie Pestano is day-to-day with a sore right elbow.

Pestano wasn't available Friday, and could be rested through the weekend. He threw a bullpen session Saturday and didn't report any issues, but it's still not yet clear how long he'll be sidelined.
May 4 - 1:35 PM

Vinnie Pestano is unscored upon in his three appearances this season, giving up just one hit while striking out four in the process.

Chris Perez has blown one of two save chances, though he's only allowed the one run in three innings. Still, Pestano is one of the better setup men in the game and could be a fine closer should Perez stumble and lose his job.
Apr 12 - 12:15 PM

Vinnie Pestano wrote on his Twitter account Monday that he might be in the best shape of his life.

"Best shape I've been in a long time," tweeted the Indians reliever. "Maybe ever." Pestano has posted a stellar 2.50 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 11.0 K/9 through 137 career major league innings. He could take over ninth-inning duties from Chris Perez at some point this season.
Feb 4 - 8:50 AM

Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reports that there is "nothing there" regarding the Mets' possible pursuit of Vinnie Pestano.

Rubin reported earlier Tuesday that the Mets were interested in trading for the Indians reliever, but evidently there isn't a potential for a deal after all. It's doubtful Cleveland is interested in dealing Pestano, who posted a 2.57 ERA and 76/24 K/BB ratio over 70 innings this past season and isn't even arbitration-eligible yet.

ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports that the Mets are interested in trading for Indians' reliever Vinnie Pestano.

The asking price figures to be pretty high, as Pestano isn't even arbitration-eligible yet. Quickly emerging as one of the better set-up men in the game, 27-year-old right-hander posted a 2.57 ERA and 76/24 K/BB ratio over 70 innings this past season. The Mets have also asked the Rays about the availability of Joel Peralta, but the price is similarly steep.

Vinnie Pestano has registered a 1.79 ERA and 0.99 WHIP through 55 1/3 innings this season.

Pestano also has 61 strikeouts. One of the game's top setup men, he should remain an elite fantasy option in holds leagues even as the Indians limp through the end of a disappointing 2012 campaign.

Vinnie Pestano gave up two runs on a hit and a walk in two-thirds of an inning Monday against the Twins.

There are few more dominant relievers in the game than Pestano. So despite issuing three walks in his previous appearance on Thursday, we'll chalk this up simply to an off night. The right-hander owns a 3.07 ERA and 1.16 WHIP through 14 2/3 innings.
