George Springer was hitless with a walk in five plate appearances as the Astros fell 4-0 to the Athletics on Tuesday.
Springer struck out once, as he's now struck out in each of the eight games in which he has appeared to begin the season. In total, he's struck out 13 times in 35 plate appearances. Springer is also batting just .133 with one extra-base hit, a double. Springer has big time power, but his propensity to swing and miss will be a detriment to his value. Apr 14 - 11:28 PM

George Springer launched a pair of solo homers Friday as the Astros and Nationals played to a 6-6 tie.

Springer homered off Doug Fister and prospect Sammy Solis. Those two homers are twice as many as he hit in 46 plate appearances last spring. Springer projects as an excellent fantasy outfielder this year, but it will somewhat hinge on whether he starts stealing bases again. A 40 HR-40 SB guy in the minors in 2013, he attempted just seven steals, succeeding on five, in his 78 major league games as a rookie. He's 1-for-1 stealing bases this spring.

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said Tuesday that George Springer (quad) is fully healed.

Springer missed nearly the entire second half with a left quad strain, but he's expected to have a normal offseason. The 24-year-old amassed 20 home runs and an .804 OPS over 78 games during his first taste of the majors and could be ready for a full-fledged breakout in 2015.

George Springer (quad) is done for the year.

Springer has not made enough progress from his quad strain and the Astros don't want him to push it too hard. The 24-year-old outfielder wound up posting an .804 OPS, 20 home runs, 51 RBI, and five stolen bases over his first 78 games at the major league level. He should be a fantasy monster in 2015.

George Springer (quad) is continuing to work out towards a possible return later this season.

Obviously, the likelihood of Springer making it back is decreasing by the day, but a return hasn't been ruled out yet. Fantasy owners certainly shouldn't be counting on him. The young outfielder has been on the shelf since mid-July with a strained left quad.

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said he's "hopeful and optimistic" George Springer (quad) will return in 2014.

"I'm still hopeful and optimistic we'll get him back in games this month," Luhnow said. Springer has been sidelined since mid-July with the injury, but he's back to taking batting practice and doing some other baseball-related activities. The biggest step will be running the bases at max effort, something he's yet to do.

George Springer (quad) still isn't able to run at 100 percent effort.

Springer took batting practice earlier this week and has done some other baseball-related activities, but the big hurdle for him will be running the bases and it doesn't sound like he's close to doing that. The dynamic young outfielder said "I hope so" when asked Saturday if he expects to return before the end of the season.

George Springer (quad) took batting practice on Tuesday.

He's back performing baseball activities after a two-week shutdown period. If all goes well, the Astros are hoping to get Springer back for the September 2-3 series versus the Angels. He's hitting .231/.336/.468 batting line with 20 homers and 51 RBI over 78 games this season.

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said Monday that he's hoping George Springer (quad) will be ready for activation during the September 2-3 series versus the Angels.

Springer aggravated his strained left quad in early August while on a rehab assignment but is nearing a return to baseball activities. He'll have wound up missing six and a half weeks of action if he does indeed return in early September. The rookie is sporting a .231/.336/.468 batting line with 20 homers and 51 RBI over 78 games this season.

George Springer (quad) will rest for two weeks.

Springer aggravated his strained left quad last Wednesday in a rehab game and will now likely remain on the disabled list until late August. He underwent an MRI on Tuesday that showed no major structural damage, but the way-out-of-contention Astros are going to play it safe with their young star outfielder.

George Springer (quad) is scheduled to have a workout with an Astros trainer on Monday.

The goal is to test his readiness from his strained left quad. He had a minor setback last week, but it appears that he could make his return to the Astros within the next couple of days.

George Springer (quad) will not be activated from the disabled list on Sunday.

Springer took batting practice and shagged balls in the outfield Saturday to test out his left quad, but the Astros determined that he's not quite ready yet. Assuming he doesn't suffer a setback, he should be activated sometime this week.

George Springer (quad) could be activated from the disabled list on Sunday.

Springer took batting practice and shagged balls in the outfield Saturday to test out his left quad. He had a minor setback last week during his rehab assignment but is feeling better now. Assuming he bounces back Sunday after Saturday's workout, he should be activated.

Astros manager Bo Porter said Thursday that George Springer only had a minor setback with his left quad injury.

Springer tweaked his quad after running the bases Wednesday, but he's only dealing with a little bit of soreness. He's scheduled to be re-evaluated Friday and could still be activated soon. It sounds like it could be a lot worse.

George Springer (quad) was recalled from his rehab assignment Wednesday after tweaking his quad running the bases.

Springer was legging out a double during his rehab stint with High-A Quad Cities on Wednesday when he tweaked the muscle. He was headed back to Houston for re-evaluation after the game. Springer had initially been on pace to be activated on Thursday, but that's obviously out the window. The Astros should shed more light on the situation shortly, but it's certainly not a good development for the 24-year-old.
