Yoshinori Tateyama - R - Rangers

Rangers released RHP Yoshinori Tateyama.

Tateyama wasn't going to make the Opening Day roster, so the Rangers will give him a shot to catch on elsewhere. The 37-year-old has posted a 5.75 ERA over 53 appearances the last two seasons with the Rangers.

Rangers signed RHP Yoshinori Tateyama to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The Rangers declined Tateyama's $1.2 million option for 2013 back in October and are now getting him back on a non-guaranteed deal. If he does well in spring training, he may be able to earn a spot in the Texas bullpen.

The team declined Tateyama's $1.2 million option for 2013, but they're evidently interested in bringing him back on a non-guaranteed deal. The righty allowed 19 runs -- 17 earned -- in 17 innings of relief this season for Texas.

The Rangers are adding five players Saturday when rosters expand, including top prospect Jurickson Profar from Double-A Frisco. Tateyama has an 11.37 ERA in 11 appearances (12 2/3 innings) this season and will be used in middle relief.

Rangers manager Ron Washington said Tateyama is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment as soon as Friday. He could be back by the end of the month.

Harrison underwent an operation on April 23 to repair a herniated disk in his lower back but began feeling additional discomfort this week, necessitating another procedure. According to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com, the Rangers are "operating under the assumption that Harrison will pitch again this season, but he will be out for at least three months." The hope had been that he would be ready to rock during the first week of June, but a more realistic timetable calls for him to be activated near the middle of the month.
