Russ Canzler homered twice and drove in six runs as the Orioles walloped Spain 19-7 in Wednesday's exhibition.

Canzler wishes this one counted in the stats, as he was off to a bit of a slow start while Conor Jackson and Steve Pearce opened the spring red hot. The Orioles will likely have a spot for just one of the three, though Canzler has the advantage of being the member of the trio currently on the 40-man roster.

The move clears a spot for the newly-signed Travis Hafner on the 40-man roster. This is the latest development in a busy winter for Canzler, who could soon be claimed off waivers for the fourth time in the space of two months. The 26-year-old batted .269/.299/.398 with three homers and a .697 OPS in 97 plate appearances with the Indians last season and has posted some strong numbers in the minors.

Canzler has now gone from the Indians to the Blue Jays back to the Indians and now to the Yankees in the span of two weeks. The 26-year-old batted just .269/.299/.398 in 97 plate appearances last season but has fared well at Triple-A and could conceivably win a bench spot.

Canzler was designated for assignment by the Indians last month and quickly scooped up by the Blue Jays, but Toronto has now given him back. The 26-year-old batted just .269/.299/.398 in 97 plate appearances last season but he could see action at designated hitter in 2013.

Canzler had been designated for assignment earlier this week. The 26-year-old batted .269/.299/.398 with three homers and a .697 OPS in 97 plate appearances with the Indians in 2012. He's put up some nice numbers in the minors and could be an option for at-bats at first base against left-handers.

Russ Canzler went 3-for-4 and hit a homer for the second straight day Tuesday against the White Sox.

The 26-year-old Canzler is hitting .296 with three homers in 71 at-bats since joining the Indians. Cleveland will have openings at first base and in left field next year, and Canzler would surely love the chance to compete for one of the jobs. He might get it with the way he's performed of late.

Russ Canzler blasted the first home run of his major league career and drove home three as the Indians topped the Twins 7-5 on Friday.

Canzler finished the memorable evening 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. His two-run homer off Liam Hendriks in the fourth inning got the Tribe on the board, and he added an RBI single in the fifth to pull tie the game at 4-4. If he keeps hitting, he could get an extended look over the season's final month and could be worth a flier in deeper mixed formats.

Russ Canzler has left Indians' camp because his wife is expected to give birth.

He should return to camp in a couple days. Canzler is batting .268 (11-for-41) with one double and two RBI this spring and is currently competing for playing time in left field.

The Indians continue to view Russ Canzler as their potential Opening Day left fielder.

Canzler was acquired him from the Rays this offseason after being named the International League Player of the Year at Triple-A Durham. "We're impressed by the way he swings the bat," said manager Manny Acta. "He doesn't panic at the plate. He has raw power, but he's not a pull monster. He uses the whole field consistently." Working against Canzler is the fact that both Shelley Duncan and Aaron Cunningham would be subject to the waivers process if not on the Opening Day roster.

Russ Canzler went 3-for-4 with three singles and two runs scored Thursday against the White Sox.

He's now batting .435 (10-for-26) this spring. Canzler started the game in left field, and he's becoming a real option to start there for the Tribe while Grady Sizemore is out and Michael Brantley is playing center. The soon-to-be 26-year-old batted .314/.401/.530 with 18 homers last year at Triple-A in the Rays organization.
