Pirates signed RHP Elvin Ramirez to a minor league contract.
He did not receive an invite to spring training. Ramirez, traded to Angels by the Mets last spring for cash, collected an awful 5.46 ERA with a 49/45 K/BB ratio at the Triple-A level this past season. The 25-year-old with a live arm will provide injury insurance. Wed, Dec 18, 2013 11:19:00 AM

Angels sent RHP Elvin Ramirez outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.

He's now off the 40-man roster. Ramirez holds an ugly 10.14 ERA and has walked 15 over his first eight innings at Salt Lake this season. He'll obviously need to right the ship before the Angels consider calling him up.

He was sent down to make room for left-hander Garrett Olson on the active roster. Ramirez has a 7.30 ERA and 10/11 K/BB ratio over 12 1/3 innings this season with the Mets and should be back when rosters expand in September.

Updating a previous report, it was Ramon Ramirez, not Elvin, who was injured during the celebration of Johan Santana's no-hitter on Friday.

Ramirez was recently called up to replace Chris Schwinden on the active roster, and will be used in middle relief for the Mets. With Ramon Ramirez' injury, perhaps he may also find himself used in a setup capacity.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Elvin Ramirez was injured during Johan Santana's no-hitter celebration and is headed to the disabled list.

The severity of the injury isn't yet known. Ramirez was recently called up to replace Chris Schwinden but will apparently be placed on the DL without making an appearance. When healthy, Ramirez projects to be used in middle relief for the Mets.

Mets purchased the contract of RHP Elvin Ramirez from Triple-A Buffalo.

Ramirez earned the call-up with a 19/1 K/BB rate over 14 2/3 scoreless innings at Buffalo. He's likely to be used in low-leverage situations initially but could work his way up the food chain.

According to ESPN New York's Adam Rubin, the Mets will activate Josh Thole (concussion) from the disabled list and promote Elvin Ramirez from Triple-A on Friday.

Corresponding roster moves have not yet been announced. Thole has been cleared to return to the Mets and caught a full game on the farm Thursday. Ramirez has been lights-out in Buffalo this season and the Mets hope he can continue that success in a middle relief role. The 25-year-old right-hander was selected by the Nationals from the Mets in 2010's Rule 5 Draft with the sixth pick and returned in October after missing all of last season rehabbing from shoulder surgery. Over 14 2/3 innings at Triple-A, he hasn't allowed a run, has given up only five hits and has posted a ridiculous 19/1 K/BB rate.

Mets accepted Rule 5 pick Elvin Ramirez back from the Nationals.

The 24-year-old right-hander was selected from the Mets in December's Rule 5 Draft with the sixth pick. Ramirez missed the entire season after undergoing shoulder surgery. He posted a pedestrian 4.17 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 73 1/3 innings last year at the Single-A level, but he was hitting 98 MPH with his fastball prior to surgery.

Nationals returned Rule 5 pick Elvin Ramirez to the Mets.

Ramirez was chosen with the sixth pick in the Rule 5 Draft last December. The 24-year-old right-hander was placed on the 60-day disabled list at the conclusion of spring training due to a sore shoulder, an injury which eventually required season-ending surgery.

Elvin Ramirez recently underwent shoulder surgery and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

He has been sidelined since the beginning of spring training. The Nats will have to keep the Rule 5 pick on the 25-man roster for at least two months next season in order to retain control of him, but it's possible they could choose to offer him back to the Mets over the offseason if they need to free up a spot on the 40-man roster.
