The move was made to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Chris Bootcheck. The 24-year-old southpaw missed the entire 2012 season with a stress fracture in his elbow, and has struggled this season, posting a 6.75 ERA and 2.08 WHIP through his first 12 innings in the minors. Jun 14 - 7:06 PM

Cesar Cabral (elbow) isn't expected to be ready to pitch in games until May.

Cabral missed all of 2012 with a stress fracture in his left elbow, and he obviously still isn't 100 percent. The positive with the injury is that the Yankees will be able to bring the Rule 5 pick along slowly with minor league rehab games.

According to Chad Jennings of the Journal News, Cesar Cabral (elbow) is not expected to be 100 percent healthy by the start of the 2013 regular season.

Cabral was a Rule 5 Draft selection before the 2012 season, but he was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his left elbow during spring training and missed the entire summer. He'll be a question mark again in 2013.

Rule 5 pick Cesar Cabral was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his left elbow.

He's a candidate for the 60-day disabled list. Cabral had a solid spring as the Yankees' left-handed specialist, posting a 1.74 ERA and 12/1 K/BB ratio in 10 1/3 innings. Clay Rapada is now set to begin the year on the Opening Day roster.

Rule 5 pick Cesar Cabral Cesar Cabral will undergo X-rays and an MRI on his left (pitching) elbow.

Cabral's arm is in a sling, so he doesn't appear to be dealing with just garden-variety soreness. Fighting for a spot as a lefty specialist in the Bombers bullpen, Cabral has had a solid spring, posting a 1.74 ERA and 12/1 K/BB ratio in 10 1/3 innings. It looks like it could all be for naught, however.

Rule 5 pick Cesar Cabral got all six of his outs via the K in relief against the Rays on Wednesday.

Cabral allowed two hits and intentionally walked a batter. He also threw a wild pitch and committed a balk, but he didn't allow a run. The Yankees may very well keep the former Red Sox farmhand as the second lefty in their pen.

Yankees acquired LHP Cesar Cabral from the Royals for cash considerations.

The Royals selected Cabral from the Red Sox in Thursday's Rule 5 Draft. The 22-year-old left-hander posted a 2.95 ERA this season while striking out 70 over 55 innings between High- and Double-A. He'll try to make the Yankees' bullpen out of spring training.

Royals selected LHP Cesar Cabral from the Red Sox in the Rule 5 draft.

Cabral was also taken in last year's Rule 5 draft but failed to stick on the 25-man roster. He pitched very well in the minors in 2011, though, holding a 2.95 ERA while striking out 70 over 55 innings between High- and Double-A. Cabral can throw in the low 90s and has a nice changeup. He'll try to make the Royals' Opening Day roster as a LOOGY.

Red Sox reacquired Rule 5 Draft pick LHP Cesar Cabral from the Rays.

The Rays selected Cabral with the 29th overall pick in this past December's Rule 5 Draft but didn't find a spot for him on the big league roster. He will probably open the 2011 season at the Single-A level.

Rays claimed LHP Cesar Cabral off waivers from the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays claimed Cabral off waivers from Tampa Bay this weekend with the intention of trading him to the Red Sox, but a deal never got worked out and so he's headed back to the Rays. The 22-year-old lefty had a 5.81 ERA over 48 innings last season at the Single-A level.

Blue Jays manager John Farrell said the team will try to work out a trade with the Red Sox for Cesar Cabral, who they claimed off waivers Saturday.

Cabral was taken by the Rays in the Rule 5 draft, so if he doesn't stick on the 25-man roster, he'll have to be offered back to his original team. Unless, of course, a trade can be agreed to, which is what Toronto is apparently trying to work out. Farrell said that if a deal can't be agreed upon, the lefty will likely go back on waivers.

Blue Jays claimed LHP Cesar Cabral off waivers from the Rays.

Cabral, a Rule 5 pick out of the Red Sox farm system, had allowed two runs in 3 2/3 innings this spring. Toronto's bullpen is far more crowded that Tampa Bay's was, so Cabral still figures to make his way back to the Boston organization at the end of the spring.
