Joe Mahoney (hamstring) is expected to begin playing in rehab games Sunday at Triple-A New Orleans.
Mahoney was placed on the disabled list April 28 with a right hamstring strain. He'll beat Logan Morrison (knee) back to the Marlins' active roster but will probably be sent back to Triple-A when LoMo is deemed fully healthy. Mahoney, 26, carries no fantasy value. May 23 - 9:12 AM

Date:

Joe Mahoney (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Jupiter this week.

Mahoney has been out since late April with a right hamstring strain. With Logan Morrison (knee) and Casey Kotchman (hamstring) also due back soon, Mahoney might be sent to Triple-A once healthy.
May 19 - 1:06 PM

Marlins placed first baseman Joe Mahoney on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 28, with a right hamstring strain.

This puts the Marlins' top three first basemen -- Logan Morrison, Casey Kotchman and Mahoney -- all on the DL. They'll get by with Greg Dobbs and Chris Valaika at the position until Kotchman is activated.
Apr 30 - 2:28 AM

Joe Mahoney smashed the first home run of his major league career on Friday, but it wasn't enough to lead the Marlins to victory over the Cubs.

Mahoney's fourth inning blast off Scott Feldman was his only hit in four trips to the plate on the evening. He's hitting .280/.280/.440 with a homer and four RBI through his first eight games. It looks like he'll see regular action hitting in the cleanup spot for the Marlins, which adds to his value and certainly makes him worthy of a look in most mixed leagues.
Apr 26 - 10:06 PM

Joe Mahoney went 2-for-3 and drove in both Marlins runs before being removed for a pinch-hitter Tuesday.

Rather than see what Mahoney could do in a lefty-lefty matchup against Glen Perkins in the ninth, the Marlins decided to send up Chris Valaika instead. He struck out. Mahoney is 3-for-12 with three RBI while helping to fill in for Casey Kotchman the last five days. He has a bit of short-term value in NL-only leagues.
Apr 23 - 5:00 PM

Marlins activated 1B Joe Mahoney from the 15-day disabled list.

The move was made prior to the Marlins' game on Wednesday night. Mahoney began the season on the disabled list with an oblique injury, but he figures to share playing time with Greg Dobbs at first base while Logan Morrison (knee) and Casey Kotchman (hamstring) are sidelined.
Apr 18 - 3:29 PM

Joe Mahoney (oblique) will be activated from the disabled list prior to Wednesday's game.

Kyle Skipworth has already been sent down in a corresponding move. Mahoney missed the beginning of the season with an oblique injury but batted .438 with a homer during a four-game rehab assignment. He should see some playing time at first base with Logan Morrison (knee) and Casey Kotchman (hamstring) both sidelined.
Apr 16 - 10:10 PM

Joe Mahoney (oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday night with High-A Jupiter.

Mahoney was cleared for a rehab stint after he played in an extended spring training game on Wednesday. It shouldn't take him long to get ready, so he figures to get a decent amount of playing time at first base with Logan Morrison (knee) and Casey Kotchman (hamstring) both sidelined.
Apr 12 - 4:40 PM

Joe Mahoney (oblique) played in an extended spring training game Wednesday and will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Jupiter in the next few days.

He's not expected to need many rehab at-bats, so it sounds like Mahoney could be activated sometime next week. With both Logan Morrison and Casey Kotchman on the disabled list, Mahoney should receive plenty of playing time at first base once he returns.
Apr 10 - 6:16 PM

Marlins placed 1B Joe Mahoney on the 15-day disabled list with a strained oblique.

He'll miss at least the first few weeks of the season but, once, healthy, could threaten Casey Kotchman for playing time at first base before Logan Morrison returns. Mahoney batted .233/.258/.567 with three homers this spring for the Marlins.
Mar 31 - 2:23 PM

Joe Mahoney homered twice and drove in four runs as the Marlins and Mets played to an 8-8 tie Saturday.

Casey Kotchman looks like the favorite to open the season as the Marlins' first baseman with Logan Morrison likely DL bound, but it's worth noting that he's not on the 40-man roster and Mahoney is. The Marlins might decide it's worth going with Mahoney if they think Morrison will be back after a couple of weeks.
Mar 2 - 4:57 PM

Marlins claimed 1B/OF Joe Mahoney off waivers from the Orioles.

Mahoney, 25, appeared in two games with the Orioles this past season and batted .265/.319/.389 with 10 homers and a .708 OPS in 132 games at the Triple-A level. He'll compete for a bench job in spring training.

Orioles designated 1B Joe Mahoney for assignment.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Danny Valencia, who was acquired from the Red Sox on Wednesday. Mahoney, 25, appeared in two games with the Orioles this past season and batted .265/.319/.389 with 10 homers and a .708 OPS in 132 games at the Triple-A level.

Orioles optioned 1B Joe Mahoney to Triple-A Norfolk.

Mahoney lasted just one day with the Orioles in his most recent call-up. Look for him to be recalled when rosters expand in September.
Sat, Aug 18, 2012 03:47:00 PM

Orioles recalled 1B Joe Mahoney from Triple-A Norfolk.

Mahoney will serve as infield depth for the Orioles while Wilson Betemit recovers from a wrist ailment. The 25-year-old is doubtful to hold any sort of fantasy value.
