De La Rosa has allowed three runs and walked three over 2 1/3 relief innings this season and has dealt with shoulder issues. He'll try to get back on track in the minors.

He'll take the place of Fernando Salas in the Angels bullpen, who was placed on the disabled list on Sunday. De La Rosa has struggled with shoulder problems this season, and allowed two runs in 1/3 of an inning during his only appearance for the Halos.

De La Rosa had returned to California to be re-evaluated over the weekend after having an apparent setback, but he evidently checked out OK. The right-hander expects to need just 1-2 more appearances before being activated.

De La Rosa hasn't pitched for Triple-A Salt Lake since last Friday. More will obviously be known about how long he could be sidelined after his exam. De La Rosa has been limited to just one appearance in the majors this season due to injury.

De La Rosa returned from the DL over the weekend, but the Angels want to have him examined after his velocity was down in his lone appearance. He was optioned to Triple-A Sunday. "He feels good, he says he feels healthy, so I think you just want to explore why some of his velo is down," Scioscia added. "Once he's ready, I know he's going to get right back on the horse.
