Mariners manager Scott Servais acknowledged the team is open to re-signing Justin De Fratus.

He was released Wednesday after posting a 4.50 ERA in his first four outings this spring. If De Fratus doesn't latch on with another team in the next few days, the Mariners could bring him back as an insurance policy while Evan Scribner and Ryan Cook recover from back injuries. In the meantime, Joel Peralta and Tony Zych should get more chances.

Mariners released RHP Justin De Fratus.

The Mariners signed De Fratus to a one-year, $750,000 deal back in December, but they decided to cut ties after he allowed three runs in six innings with a 4/3 K/BB ratio this spring. The 28-year-old really struggled with the Phillies in 2015 and will try to bounce back elsewhere this season.

Mariners signed RHP Justin De Fratus to a one-year, $750,000 contract.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman was first on the scene to report De Fratus' deal with Seattle. It's official now. The 27-year-old right-hander struggled with the Phillies in 2015, pitching to a 5.51 ERA with a 68/32 K/BB ratio across 80 innings. The sub-par numbers ultimately earned De Fratus an outrighting from the club in October. He opted for free agency instead of an assignment to Triple-A. While 2015 was a painful year on the statistical side, De Fratus held a 2.39 ERA over 52 2/3 innings in 2014, making this a decent low-risk acquisition by the M's.

He's expected to receive $750,000, with the chance to earn more with incentives. Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune first reported the team's interest in De Fratus. The 27-year-old is coming off a disappointing 5.51 ERA and 68/32 K/BB ratio over 80 innings with the Phillies, but he has enjoyed some success in the past.

Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports that the Mariners are showing interest in Justin De Fratus.

De Fratus elected free agency in October after being outrighted off the Phillies' 40-man roster. He held an ugly 5.51 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 68/32 K/BB ratio over 80 innings in 2015 but entered the campaign with a career 3.08 ERA across 130 relief appearances.

He didn't hit him with the offering, but the intent was pretty clear since it happened right after the Orioles' seventh home run of the night. It's possible De Fratus could face a suspension.
