Dodgers signed RHP Justin De Fratus to a minor league contract.
It's unclear if the deal will include an invitation to major league spring training. The 30-year-old hurler hasn't appeared in a big league game since 2015. He split his 2017 season pitching for Double-A Arkansas (Mariners) and the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in the Independent Atlantic League. He'll add minor league bullpen depth for the Dodgers. Mariners manager Scott Servais acknowledged the team is open to re-signing Justin De Fratus.

He was released Wednesday after posting a 4.50 ERA in his first four outings this spring. If De Fratus doesn't latch on with another team in the next few days, the Mariners could bring him back as an insurance policy while Evan Scribner and Ryan Cook recover from back injuries. In the meantime, Joel Peralta and Tony Zych should get more chances.

Mariners released RHP Justin De Fratus.

The Mariners signed De Fratus to a one-year, $750,000 deal back in December, but they decided to cut ties after he allowed three runs in six innings with a 4/3 K/BB ratio this spring. The 28-year-old really struggled with the Phillies in 2015 and will try to bounce back elsewhere this season.

Mariners signed RHP Justin De Fratus to a one-year, $750,000 contract.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman was first on the scene to report De Fratus' deal with Seattle. It's official now. The 27-year-old right-hander struggled with the Phillies in 2015, pitching to a 5.51 ERA with a 68/32 K/BB ratio across 80 innings. The sub-par numbers ultimately earned De Fratus an outrighting from the club in October. He opted for free agency instead of an assignment to Triple-A. While 2015 was a painful year on the statistical side, De Fratus held a 2.39 ERA over 52 2/3 innings in 2014, making this a decent low-risk acquisition by the M's.

The 27-year-old is coming off a disappointing 5.51 ERA and 68/32 K/BB ratio over 80 innings with the Phillies, but he has enjoyed some success in the past.
