The move cleared a spot for Yusmeiro Petit on the 40-man roster. Edlefsen had a 4.70 ERA and 9/6 K/BB ratio over 15 1/3 innings with the Giants earlier this season.

Edlefsen made 14 relief appearances since being promoted in late-April, posting a 4.37 ERA and 1.69 WHIP. He'll be replaced by George Kontos on the active roster, but figures to be back up later this year.

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants will recall right-hander Steve Edlefsen from Triple-A Fresno after Friday's game.

Nothing official from the team yet, but he'll likely take the roster spot of Eric Hacker, who is making a spot start Friday. Edlefson has a 1.42 ERA and 5/4 K/BB ratio over 6 1/3 innings at the Triple-A level this year.

Edlefsen had a quality 1.69 ERA and 4/4 K/BB ratio over 10 2/3 innings this spring, but Dan Otero won the final spot in the Giants' bullpen. The 26-year-old right-hander will continue to serve as relief depth in the minors.

Edlefsen will be making his major league debut when he gets into a game. He posted less than impressive numbers at Triple-A, holding a 5.44 ERA and 35/23 K/BB ratio over 44 2/3 innings, though he pitched much better the last two seasons.
