Giants signed RHP Cory Gearrin to a minor league contract.
Gearrin was released by the Braves last month after missing the entire 2014 season following Tommy John surgery. He should be ready at some during the first half of 2015. The 28-year-old posted a 4.28 ERA with 68 strikeouts over 69 1/3 innings in the majors from 2011-13. Dec 5 - 1:55 PM

Braves released RHP Cory Gearrin.

Gearrin posted a 4.28 ERA with 68 strikeouts over 69 1/3 innings from 2011-13 before missing the 2014 season following Tommy John surgery. It's possible the Braves will re-sign him to a minor league contract as he continues his recovery, though there's been no indication to this point that that will happen.
Nov 11 - 6:22 PM

Braves activated RHP Cory Gearrin from the 60-day disabled list.

Gearrin was one of a plethora of Braves hurlers who were forced to undergo Tommy John surgery last season. The 28-year-old is expected to return to the Braves bullpen at some point during the first two months of the 2015 season.
Oct 31 - 11:32 PM

Cory Gearrin will undergo Tommy John elbow surgery.

The right-hander made the decision Tuesday after getting a second opinion on the partial ligament tear in his right elbow. He's already on the 60-day disabled list and will be sidelined through early 2015.
Apr 8 - 4:33 PM

Cory Gearrin was diagnosed Saturday with a partial ligament tear in his right elbow.

Gearrin is likely to need Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, but he'll get a second opinion before anything becomes official. The Braves have already placed the right-hander on the 60-day disabled list.
Apr 5 - 5:24 PM

Braves transferred RHP Cory Gearrin from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move was made to clear room on the 40-man roster for Pedro Beato. Gearrin's injury has been described as a sprained elbow, but there's a good chance he'll wind up having Tommy John surgery. Even in a best-case scenario, the Braves obviously won't have him for a couple months.
Apr 4 - 8:33 AM

Braves placed RHP Cory Gearrin on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.

Braves general manager Frank Wren said Saturday that Cory Gearrin's elbow injury has shown "ligament involvement." Of course, Wren used the same terminology when talking about Kris Medlen, who required Tommy John surgery this spring. Gearrin will get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews next week, but it sounds like he could be headed for season-ending surgery.
Mar 29 - 11:20 AM

Cory Gearrin (elbow) will likely start the season on the disabled list.

Gearrin left Tuesday's Grapefruit League game with elbow pain, and he's since been diagnosed with a sprained right elbow. He'll be further evaluated by team doctors in Atlanta, but it's highly likely that he'll be placed on the disabled list to start the year. The 27-year-old reliever had a 3.77 ERA and 1.49 WHIP over 31 innings of work last season.
Mar 26 - 6:30 PM

Cory Gearrin left Tuesday's Grapefruit League game with a right elbow sprain.

Not good news. The Braves will likely send Gearrin for an MRI, but it's very likely that he could begin the year on the disabled list.
Mar 25 - 3:13 PM

Cory Gearrin left Tuesday's Grapefruit League game with an apparent injury.

Gearrin gave up a single and induced a double play on his first two batters and left in the middle of a 2-0 count to his third batter. The Braves should pass along an update soon.
Mar 25 - 2:48 PM

Cory Gearrin was charged with six runs -- five earned -- in just one-third of an inning of relief Thursday against the Cardinals.

This may undo a lot of the good work he's done this spring; he had allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings. Gearrin spent the first half of last year in the majors and was very successful in April and May (5 R in 25 IP) before wearing down, getting demoted and then going on the minor league DL with shoulder tendinitis. Gearrin is out of options, and if he's healthy, he'd be worthy of a spot in some team's bullpen. The Braves, though, have nice depth with or without him.
Mar 13 - 4:37 PM

Cory Gearrin has been placed on Triple-A Gwinnett's disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis.

Gearrin was sent down over a month ago but had yet to make an appearance for Gwinnett, instead focusing on strengthening his shoulder and working on his delivery. He's out indefinitely.

Braves optioned RHP Cory Gearrin from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Gearrin gets the boot after struggling of late, allowing eight runs over his last six appearances. He'll be back up later this summer.

Cory Gearrin got a one-out save in a four-run game against the Twins on Monday.

Gearrin came in with the tying run on deck and two outs and got Oswaldo Arcia to foul out to left. Gearrin has allowed just two runs in 20 innings this season. He's going to be pitching with the lead or in tie games a lot more going forward with Jonny Venters and Eric O'Flaherty down.
Mon, May 20, 2013 10:25:00 PM

Cody Gearrin struck out the side in his scoreless inning Monday against the Nationals.

On another team, Gearrin likely would have emerged as a bullpen fixture last year and wouldn't have anything to worry about this spring. On the Braves, he's still fighting to make the team, even though he's been quite impressive in throwing six scoreless innings and striking out nine this spring. It could come down to whether the Braves want to keep Anthony Varvaro, who, unlike Gearrin, is out of options.
