Giants activated RHP Cory Gearrin from the 15-day disabled list.

He'll absorb the roster spot left by injured starter Matt Cain (back). Gearrin missed about six weeks with a strained shoulder. He was working as the Giants' setup man before his injury but now that role belongs to Derek Law.

Cory Gearrin (shoulder) will make another rehab appearance with Triple-A Sacramento.

Gearrin is back to full health after his right shoulder strain, but the Giants need to make room for him on the active roster. The plan calls for him to pitch again on Tuesday in Triple-A, so look for him to rejoin the Giants shortly after that. Gearrin had a 3.89 ERA and 29/12 K/BB ratio over 37 innings prior to hitting the DL in early July.

Giants placed RHP Cory Gearrin on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain.

This is something of a precautionary move, as manager Bruce Bochy said that the team expects him to be able to return to action after the All-Star break. In 37 innings of relief work this season, the 30-year-old right-hander holds a 3.89 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 29/12 K/BB ratio.

Gearrin was released by the Braves last month after missing the entire 2014 season following Tommy John surgery. He should be ready at some during the first half of 2015. The 28-year-old posted a 4.28 ERA with 68 strikeouts over 69 1/3 innings in the majors from 2011-13.

Braves released RHP Cory Gearrin.

Gearrin posted a 4.28 ERA with 68 strikeouts over 69 1/3 innings from 2011-13 before missing the 2014 season following Tommy John surgery. It's possible the Braves will re-sign him to a minor league contract as he continues his recovery, though there's been no indication to this point that that will happen.

Braves activated RHP Cory Gearrin from the 60-day disabled list.

Cory Gearrin will undergo Tommy John elbow surgery.

The right-hander made the decision Tuesday after getting a second opinion on the partial ligament tear in his right elbow. He's already on the 60-day disabled list and will be sidelined through early 2015.

Cory Gearrin was diagnosed Saturday with a partial ligament tear in his right elbow.

Gearrin is likely to need Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, but he'll get a second opinion before anything becomes official. The Braves have already placed the right-hander on the 60-day disabled list.

Braves transferred RHP Cory Gearrin from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move was made to clear room on the 40-man roster for Pedro Beato. Gearrin's injury has been described as a sprained elbow, but there's a good chance he'll wind up having Tommy John surgery. Even in a best-case scenario, the Braves obviously won't have him for a couple months.

Braves placed RHP Cory Gearrin on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.

Braves general manager Frank Wren said Saturday that Cory Gearrin's elbow injury has shown "ligament involvement." Of course, Wren used the same terminology when talking about Kris Medlen, who required Tommy John surgery this spring. Gearrin will get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews next week, but it sounds like he could be headed for season-ending surgery.

Gearrin left Tuesday's Grapefruit League game with elbow pain, and he's since been diagnosed with a sprained right elbow. He'll be further evaluated by team doctors in Atlanta, but it's highly likely that he'll be placed on the disabled list to start the year. The 27-year-old reliever had a 3.77 ERA and 1.49 WHIP over 31 innings of work last season.

Cory Gearrin left Tuesday's Grapefruit League game with an apparent injury.

Gearrin gave up a single and induced a double play on his first two batters and left in the middle of a 2-0 count to his third batter. The Braves should pass along an update soon.
