Astros signed 1B Brian Dopirak to a minor league contract.

He'll be invited to spring training. Dopirak, who turns 27 later this month, batted .274/.309/.454 with 11 home runs and 53 RBI over 363 plate appearances with Triple-A Las Vegas in the Blue Jays organization this past season. Once a highly-regarded prospect after being selected in the second round of the 2002 draft by the Cubs, Dopirak has yet to play in the major leagues.

Blue Jays optioned INFs Brian Dopirak and Jarrett Hoffpauir to Triple-A Las Vegas; reassigned C Kyle Phillips, LHP Zach Jackson and RHP Lance Broadway sent to Minor League camp.

Blue Jays purchased the contract of first baseman Brian Dopirak from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Toronto adds the 25-year-old first baseman to their 40-man roster on the heels of his .317/.371/.549 line with 27 home runs and 102 RBI between Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Las Vegas this season. Some thought the former top-prospect deserved a call to the big leagues, but Randy Ruiz got the assignment instead. At least he's protected from the Rule 5 draft, now.

Cubs designated 1B Brian Dopirak for assignment.

Once a highly touted prospect after bashing 39 homers at low Single-A in 2004, Dopirak's stock has plummeted over the past three seasons. He batted .218 with a 516 OPS at Double-A to begin this season, before hitting .278 with an 828 OPS following a demotion to Single-A.

First baseman Brian Dopirak was demoted to Single-A Daytona and went 0-for-4 in his first game Friday.

Dopirak hit 39 homers for low Single-A Lansing in 2004, but he's been a bust ever since. The Cubs demoted him after he opened this year with a .218/.247/.268 line for Double-A West Tenn.

Cubs prospect Brian Dopirak returned to action on Friday and went 2-for-4 for Double-A West Tenn.

Dopirak played in just one game in April before suffering a broken foot that required surgery. A big disappointment at Single-A Daytona in 2005, he's likely to struggle some in Double-A. However, since he's a 22-year-old with 35-homer power, he's not going to be given up on anytime soon.

Cubs optioned 1B Brian Dopirak and C Jose Reyes to Double-A West Tenn and C Geovany Soto to Triple-A Iowa; reassigned INF Casey McGehee and INF Augie Ojeda to minor league camp.

Dopirak didn't hurt himself by hitting .296 with three extra-base hits in camp, but he struck out seven times and didn't walk once in 27 at-bats. He's going to have to show better plate discipline to survive in Double-A.

Brian Dopirak went 2-for-2 with a three-run homer versus the A's today.

Dopirak, trying to bounce back from an ugly year in the Florida State League, is 5-for-9 with two homers. He could continue to see quite a bit of time at first base while Derrek Lee plays for Team USA.

Brian Dopirak went 3-for-6 with a home run and a double for Single-A Daytona yesterday.

It's been a rough year for Dopirak, but he still has plenty of time to turn things around. He's currently batting .243/.291/.379 with seven home runs in 54 games. Last year, he hit 39 homers in the Midwest League.

First base prospect Brian Dopirak impressed Cubs officials while with the big club Tuesday.

He made the trip from minor league because the Cubs were playing a split-squad game. Dopirak, 21, belted long home runs in batting practice before singling home the tying run in Chicago's game. The first baseman may skip over the Florida State League and start the season in Double-A.

Dopirak, who slugged 39 homers in the Midwest League last season, is batting .287/.340/.575 against advanced competition this fall. He's one of the top first base prospects in the low minors.
