J.B. Shuck - OF - Angels

Angels optioned OF J.B. Shuck to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Shuck earned a surprise spot on the Opening Day roster with a strong spring training, but the Angels needed another infielder due to the recent injury to Erick Aybar. He'll likely see more time with the big league club at some point in 2012 but carries zero value in fantasy leagues.

Angels purchased the contract of OF J.B. Shuck from Triple-A Salt Lake.

He's a surprise inclusion on the Opening Day roster over Cole Calhoun. Shuck earned the spot by batting .367/.392/.429 this spring.

Angels signed OF J.B. Shuck to a minor league contract.

It's unclear whether he'll be invited to spring training. Shuck spent all of 2012 at Triple-A with the Astros, batting .298/.374/.352 with no homers and 12 steals. He's just organizational depth.

Astros sent OF J.B. Shuck outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Shuck doesn't have much left to prove at the minor league level, but the Astros are making him compete for a roster spot in spring training. He batted .298/.374/.352 with no home runs and 12 steals at Triple-A this season.

Shuck hit just .241/.281/.315 this year in the Grapefruit League, failing to win a spot on the Astros' Opening Day roster. He should be up at some point this summer.

Astros purchased the contract of OF J.B. Shuck from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The early success of Jose Altuve and J.D. Martinez likely has helped to convince the Astros to give another young player a shot. But, Shuck simply isn't as good of a player as the aforementioned fellow outfielders. He's hit .301 with a terrific .401 OBP for Oklahoma City but hasn't gone deep a single time and has been caught on 11 of 30 stolen base attempts. If he winds up with a good amount of playing time, he's worth consideration in NL-only formats.

J.B. Shuck - OF - Angels

J.B. Shuck homered in his lone at-bat Monday against the Phillies.

Shuck would probably be as big of a surprise as anyone to crack a major league roster, but the 23-year-old remains in the mix for the Astros, even though he's hitting a modest .264/.289/.452 in 42 at-bats. If he loses out, it will probably be because of the Joe Inglett acquisition.

Even the most optimistic of time frames have Bourjos returning to the lineup at the end of May or beginning of June. Hamstring injuries can be extremely detrimental to players like Bourjos who rely so heavily on their speed, as they tend to linger and pose a high re-injury risk. J.B. The reliever said he respects the team's decision but thinks he can "pitch here today and get people out. That's just how I feel." It sounds like he won't join the Halos' bullpen until sometime next month. May 15
