Nationals reliever Erik Davis recently underwent Tommy John surgery.

Davis sustained a right elbow sprain in early February, and surgery was among the options. The right-hander had a 3.12 ERA and 12/1 K/BB ratio over 8 2/3 innings last season with the club. He's looking at being back sometime early in 2015.

Davis is still attempting to rehab a right elbow sprain. He was placed on the 60-day disabled list last month and may need surgery if he doesn't begin to improve.

Davis had a nice year between Double- and Triple-A in 2012, putting up a 2.71 ERA with 74 strikeouts over 73 innings. He could make his big league debut sometime next season.

Davis, 24, posted a 3.52 ERA across 27 starts between three different levels in the minors last season, reaching as high as Triple-A Portland. He's a bit old for a prospect, but has averaged 8.5 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 during his pro career. Look for him to begin the year with Triple-A Syracuse.
