Cesar Puello went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Saturday's split-squad Cactus League game against the Indians.
After Indians starter Mike Clevinger walked the first two batters of the second inning, Puello made him pay, crunching a three-run shot. That homer was his second this spring. The Rangers inked him to a minor league deal at the beginning of December. He spent the 2016 campaign plying his trade at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees' system, where he batted .283/.413/.404 in 289 plate appearances. The 25-year-old outfielder will likely open the coming season in the minors. Mar 18 - 5:58 PM

Rangers signed OF Cesar Puello to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Puello posted a cool .413 on-base percentage in 78 games this past season with the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, though it came with only five home runs in 289 plate appearances. The 25-year-old outfielder has never appeared in a game at the major league level and seems doubtful to crack the Opening Day roster with Texas.

Yankees signed OF Cesar Puello to a minor league contract.

Puello was released by the Mets back in August. The 24-year-old was once an interesting prospect, but his production has faded since Biogenesis suspension and he missed almost all of the 2015 season with a stress fracture in his back.

Mets released OF Cesar Puello.

Puello has been out for practically the entire 2015 season with a stress fracture in his back. The Dominican outfielder was considered a pretty good prospect at one point, but he's now 24 years old. There should be interest out there from other organizations.

Mets transferred OF Cesar Puello from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears space on the 40-man roster for Johnny Monell. Puello remains sidelined with a stress fracture in his back.

Mets placed OF Cesar Puello on the 15-day disabled list with a stress fracture in his back.

Puello had been outrighted off the 40-man roster, but that move has been rescinded due to the injury. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined.

Mets sent OF Cesar Puello outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

The 24-year-old outfielder passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as organizational depth for the Mets. He batted .250/.357/.250 with one RBI and nine strikeouts in 36 Grapefruit League at-bats.

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, the Mets have placed Cesar Puello on outright waivers.

Puello wasn't going to make the Mets' Opening Day roster and he is out of minor league options, so the move is not surprising. The 24-year-old outfielder batted just .252/.355/.393 with seven home runs and 37 RBI in 105 games last season at Triple-A Las Vegas.

Mets prospect OF Cesar Puello went 2-for-5 with a pair of solo home runs Sunday for Triple-A Las Vegas.

The 23-year-old also struck out twice in the game. Puello had been out of action with an injury since June 23, but he was batting just .137/.313/.255 in 20 games on the month before that. Overall, he's batted .233/.333/.358 with 14 extra-base hits (four homers), nine steals and a 39-18 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 64 games this season. Puello enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2013 at Double-A Binghamton, setting new career-highs with a .326 average, .950 OPS, 16 home runs and 73 RBI in 91 games. However, his season concluded with a 50-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs, which makes it's hard to say how much of his performance was aided.

Mets outfield prospect Cesar Puello is hitting .261/.306/.304 through 14 games for Triple-A Las Vegas.

Puello was hitting .326/.403/.547 with 21 doubles and 16 homers in 91 games last year at Double-A Binghamton when his season ended due to a PED suspension, so his poor slash line in a great ballpark for hitters (Las Vegas) is troubling. He only has two extra-base hits, both doubles. The extended layoff could be causing his slow return to form.

Mets prospect outfielder Cesar Puello has been assigned to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Puello's breakout season was cut short due to a PED-related suspension in early August, leaving many questions about his breakout 2013 was influenced by his relationship with Biogenesis. If Puello hits in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, he could see some time in Queens during 2014.

Mets activated OF Cesar Puello from the restricted list.

Puello is done serving his 50-game Biogenesis-related PED suspension and is now back on the Mets' 40-man roster. The 22-year-old posted a promising .328/.405/.550 batting line with 16 home runs, 73 RBI and 24 stolen bases in 90 games this season at the Double-A level. He could be a fantasy monster someday soon.

Cesar Puello has been suspended 50 games by MLB.

Puello was found to have some level of involvement in the Biogenesis anti-aging clinic, which provided PEDs to multiple pro athletes. The 22-year-old outfielder is done for the season. He hit .328/.405/.550 with 16 homers, 73 RBI and 24 steals in 90 games at Double-A.

Mets prospect Cesar Puello has absolutely sizzled through the first 62 games of the season at Double-A Binghamton, hitting .336/.401/.612 with 15 homers, 55 RBI and 18 stolen bases.

The 22-year-old outfielder hit a ridiculous .435/.458/.884 with eight homers and four stolen bases in the month of June. Given the constant struggles of the Mets' outfield, the dynamic Puello could become an option sooner rather than later.

Mets recalled OF Cesar Puello from High-A St. Lucie.

Puello, 21, hit .260/.328/.423 with four homers and 19 steals over 66 games for St. Lucie this season. The toolsy outfielder could be bumped up to Double-A next year.
