Tigers recalled OF Avisail Garcia from Triple-A Toledo.

Garcia is replacing Austin Jackson, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a strained hamstring. Garcia has been on a tear recently at Triple-A Toledo and is expected to get regular at-bats while Jackson is out. The 21-year-old can play all three outfield positions and is worth a try in AL-only fantasy formats.

Avisail Garcia is not on the travel roster for Triple-A Toledo and is likely headed to Detroit.

Garcia is 16-for-37 with a double, a home run and four RBI over his last eight games for the Mud Hens. He could see starts in left field with the Tigers in place of Andy Dirks, who is batting just .239/.330/.370 in 29 games. Garcia may carry some value in AL-only leagues.

Tigers activated OF Avisail Garcia from the 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Toledo.

Garcia, who began the season on the disabled list with a right heel contusion, hit .417 (10-for-24) with one home run, two triples and four RBI in six rehab games with High-A Lakeland. The 22-year-old should contribute at the major league level at some point this summer.
May 1 - 9:35 AM

Avisail Garcia (heel) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday at High-A Lakeland.

Garcia has been on the disabled list since March 22 with a severe right heel contusion. He can spend up to 20 days on this rehab assignment. The Tigers have not decided whether he will be added to the major league roster or sent to Triple-A Toledo once he is deemed healthy.

Tigers placed OF Avisail Garcia on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22, with a right heel contusion.

Garcia injured his heel when he stepped awkwardly on first base earlier this month. While he no longer needs crutches, he's not ready to play in games quite yet. He'll join up with Triple-A Toledo once he's back to full health.
Mar 26 - 9:15 AM

Avisail Garcia (heel) hopes to return before the end of spring training.

Garcia is no longer using crutches for a bruised right heel, but there's still no timetable for his return. "I don't want to be in the trainer's room -- I just want to play," Garcia said. "But I don't want to feel any (pain) before I start to play. I want to be good." The 21-year-old will begin the season in the minors.

X-rays on Avisail Garcia's right heel came back negative, but the outfielder is considered out indefinitely.

Garcia was a walking boot Saturday after the injury and was using crutches Sunday, as he's unable to put any weight on the heel. The injury should rule out any chance the 21-year-old had at earning an Opening Day roster spot.

Avisail Garcia left Saturday's Grapefruit League game with a right heel contusion.

Garcia landed awkwardly on first base during the final out of the second inning and was unable to return to the game. This shouldn't be a long-term concern. The Tigers will reevaluate him Sunday.

Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said Avisail Garcia will compete for a starting job in spring training.

Dombrowski noted, though, that Garcia would not be used as a part-time player, so if doesn't win a regular job, he'll begin the year at Triple-A. The 21-year-old batted .319/.373/.319 down the stretch for the Tigers.

Avisail Garcia is in the Tigers' starting lineup again for Game 2 of the World Series versus the Giants.

Garcia finished 0-for-3 with a strikeout in Wednesday night's Game 1 loss, but the Tigers feel he's their best option at the moment. Detroit's Game 2 batting order goes Austin Jackson, Omar Infante, Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Delmon Young, Jhonny Peralta, Garcia then Gerald Laird. Doug Fister will pitch and bat ninth.

Tigers skipper Jim Leyland is using his regular lineup against left-handers for Game 1 of the ALCS on Saturday, meaning Avisail Garcia and Gerald Laird are playing.

Garcia, a 21-year-old rookie, opened up some eyes down the stretch, hitting .319/.373/.319 over 47 at-bats. He was 1-for-7 with an RBI against the Athletics in the ALDS. The Detroit batting order goes Austin Jackson, Omar Infante, Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Delmon Young, Jhonny Peralta, Andy Dirks, Garcia and Laird.

Tigers purchased the contract of OF Avisail Garcia from Double-A Erie.

Garcia, 21, has played just 55 games above A-ball, but he's in the midst of a breakout year, batting .299/.333/.455 with 14 homers and 23 steals over 513 plate appearances between High- and Double-A. He doesn't figure to see much playing time.

Tigers optioned OF Avisail Garcia to Double-A Erie.

Garcia batted just .264/.297/.389 in High-A last season, so he's obviously nowhere near big league-ready. It's a little surprising that the Tigers would even bump him up a level after his struggles at Lakeland last year. He is a fine athlete with plenty of upside, though.
