Avisail Garcia (shoulder) has been cleared to begin a rehab assignment Friday at Triple-A Charlotte.
Garcia will start out playing designated hitter before eventually shifting to the outfield. The White Sox are expected to take it slowly with the 23-year-old, who tore his left shoulder labrum in early April. He could be activated around late August if all goes well. Jul 30 - 4:38 PM

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Saturday that he expected Avisail Garcia (shoulder) back in September, at the latest.

The White Sox ruled Garcia out for the season when he tore his left labrum in early April, but he's healed quicker than expected and will be sent out on a rehab assignment before long. "It’s pretty amazing his recovery time, how he looks and how healthy he looks,’’ Ventura said. "I think by September he’ll be playing again this year. Earlier than that, I don’t know, but I expect him now to play here. I wouldn’t have said that awhile ago just because of the prognosis of how long the recovery was going to be.’’ Ventura added that when Garcia does return, "there is no more of a risk on that shoulder than there’s going to be a year from now."

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said that Avisail Garcia (shoulder) was "looking pretty normal" while taking live batting practice on Thursday.

"You see how close he’s getting," the skipper added. The White Sox ruled Garcia out for the season when he tore his left labrum in early April, but he's healed quicker than expected and it's looking like he has a real shot to return late this season. It's not clear when Garcia might go out on a rehab assignment, but he would surely need a bunch of rehab at-bats.

Avisail Garcia (shoulder) said Saturday that the next step for him is going out on a rehab assignment.

Garcia has been taking one-handed swings and is only feeling a bit of tightness in his shoulder. It's unclear when the rehab assignment would begin, and when it does he'll remain on it for a while. However, after being ruled out for the season when he tore his left labrum in early April, it sounds like there's a chance Garcia could return late this year. "Everybody’s different," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "On the other hand, you don’t necessarily want a guy down there exposing him to that as much if he could be up here doing it. What’s the right time? I don’t know."
Jul 20 - 9:43 AM

Avisail Garcia took batting practice Tuesday for the first time since injuring his left shoulder.

Garcia felt good, but the White Sox want the 23-year-old outfielder to take a slow approach to his rehab from a torn labrum and avulsion fracture. He's questionable to play again at the major league level in 2014 and should have already been dropped in redraft formats.
Jul 9 - 4:59 PM

Avisail Garcia (shoulder) is scheduled to take batting practice Monday.

Garcia is currently making his way back from April surgery to repair a torn labrum and avulsion fracture in his left shoulder. White Sox general manager Rick Hahn hasn't ruled out the possibility of him playing again this year, though they obviously won't push him. The 23-year-old has the chance to be a long-term building block for Chicago.
Jul 7 - 5:28 PM

Avisail Garcia (shoulder) played long-toss from about 200 feet Sunday.

Garcia won't play this season after having surgery in mid-April to repair a torn labrum and avulsion fracture in his left shoulder, but it sounds like his recovery is going well. The 23-year-old remains an intriguing long-term fantasy option.
Jun 15 - 12:58 PM

White Sox transferred OF Avisail Garcia from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move was made in order to clear room on the 40-man roster for the addition of Scott Carroll. Garcia, of course, is out for the season following surgery to repair a torn labrum and avulsion fracture in his left shoulder.
Apr 27 - 10:54 AM

Avisail Garcia underwent successful surgery Tuesday morning to repair a torn labrum and avulsion fracture in his left shoulder.

Garcia suffered the injury last Wednesday when he dove for a ball in the outfielder. He has already been ruled out for the remainder of the 2014 season, which is a devastating blow. The good news is that he's just 22 and still has a bright future ahead of him. Alejandro De Aza and Dayan Viciedo should receive regular playing time moving forward, though Jordan Danks should also be in the mix for at-bats.
Apr 15 - 2:05 PM

White Sox placed OF Avisail Garcia on the 15-day disabled list with a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

Garcia needs surgery to repair the labrum tear and has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2014 season. He suffered the injury Wednesday while diving for a ball in the outfield. It's a tough blow for the talented 22-year-old Venezuelan, who was sporting an .820 OPS through eight games this season. Jordan Danks has been recalled and should get regular playing time.
Apr 10 - 2:51 PM

Avisail Garcia departed Wednesday's game due to a jammed left shoulder and is being called day-to-day.

Garcia left in the sixth inning favoring the shoulder after attempting to make a diving catch. X-rays on the shoulder came back negative for a fracture, separation or dislocation. Garcia will be re-evaluated in Chicago on Thursday, but the injury does not sound series.
Apr 9 - 6:22 PM

Avisail Garcia was lifted from Wednesday's game against the Rockies with an apparent side injury.

Garcia came up holding his left side after attempting a diving catch in the bottom of the sixth inning. The White Sox should update his status soon.
Apr 9 - 6:05 PM

Avisail Garcia went 4-for-5 with two home runs as the White Sox rolled over the Rockies by a score of 15-3 Tuesday.

The Sox collected 19 hits and 15 runs, and Garcia was in the middle of it all. Garcia got the scoring started with a solo home run in the second inning before sending a solo shot over the boards in the eighth inning as well. To cap it off, Garcia batted again in the inning, driving in another run with a single. His four-hit game matched his hit total heading into the game, raising his average from .167 to .276 in one contest. It's a glimpse of how exciting the 22-year-old's game can be.
Apr 9 - 1:11 AM

Avisail Garcia is not in the White Sox starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals.

Instead, Dayan Viciedo will make his first start of the season in right field, with Alejandro De Aza remaining in left field, despite facing left-handed hurler Bruce Chen. Garcia is off to a brutal start to the season, as he's 3-for-18 (.167) on the season, and hitless in his last 13 at-bats.

Avisail Garcia belted a three-run homer off Clayton Kershaw on Saturday, powering the White Sox to a 5-4 victory over the Dodgers in Cactus League play.

He finished the night 2-for-3 with a run scored and four RBI. The 22-year-old outfielder is expected to hit second in the White Sox lineup, but hit cleanup on Saturday and looked very comfortable there. His developing blend of power and speed make him a popular option in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts.
