Twins optioned RHP Liam Hendriks to Triple-A Rochester.
The talented young Aussie entered this season as an intriguing AL-only sleeper pitching in Target Field, but he quickly proved not to be ready for the big leagues. After getting shelled Wednesday against the Angels, his ERA shot to 9.00. The Twins aren't playing for anything this year and they have a few starters who are trade candidates, so it's likely we'll see Hendriks back sometime over the summer. May 6 - 6:53 PM

Date:

Liam Hendricks turned in another disappointing performance against the Angels on Wednesday, allowing six runs on nine hits in just 2 1/3 innings.

Hendriks struck out one and walked none in the short outing. He now owns a 9.00 ERA on the season, and looks to be in serious danger of losing his spot in the Twins rotation. He's unlikely to take his next turn in the rotation, which would occur against the Angels on Tuesday.
May 3 - 1:11 AM

Liam Hendriks got pounded in Wednesday's loss to the Red Sox, allowing seven runs on nine hits in just four innings of work.

It was a marked downgrade on Hendriks' shaky outing against the Rays last Friday, and leaves him with a 6.89 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 8/4 K/BB ratio through his first 15 2/3 innings. Off the radar in AL-only leagues, Hendriks will get the Angels in Anaheim on Monday.
Apr 26 - 12:01 AM

Liam Hendriks pitched decently against the Rays on Friday, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits in 5 2/3 innings of work.

He struck out just one and walked two in the game. Hendriks, trying to make a strong impression and keep his rotation spot, may have been left in for one batter too long. After getting Carlos Pena to bounce into a game tying double play in the fifth, Evan Longoria untied the game with a two-run blast on Hendriks’ 101st pitch of the night. Assuming no changes to the Twins rotation, he’ll look to get back on track when he takes on the Red Sox next week.
Apr 20 - 10:25 PM

Liam Hendriks turned in a solid 2012 debut Sunday, holding the hot-hitting Rangers to one run on seven hits in six innings of Minnesota's loss.

The 23-year-old Australian struck out four and walked none, with his only real mistake coming in the fifth, where he served up a solo home run to Mike Napoli. He's a bit of an open book for fantasy purposes, but making at least half his starts in cavernous Target Field, he's worth a flier in AL-only leagues. He'll get the Rays in Tampa on Friday.
Apr 15 - 5:28 PM

Liam Hendriks (food poisoning) is scheduled to rejoin the Twins rotation on Sunday.

Hendriks missed his first start of the year while dealing with a bout of food poisoning, but he's back on track now. Anthony Swarzak will get the ball Friday for the Twins and then will move back to the bullpen to accommodate Jason Marquis next week.
Apr 11 - 7:09 PM

Liam Hendriks (food poisoning) has been released from the hospital and is traveling to Minnesota.

Hendriks fell sick while the Twins were playing their season-opening series in Baltimore and spent a couple of consecutive days in the hospital. He should be ready to hop into the Twins' starting rotation later this week. Anthony Swarzak filled in for him on Sunday.
Apr 9 - 1:22 PM

Liam Hendriks (food poisoning) could remain in the hospital through Sunday.

The Twins were hoping he'd be released Sunday morning, but it sounds like he'll stay there one more night. Hendriks will be replaced by Anthony Swarzak Sunday, but he could conceivably be ready for his next start.
Apr 8 - 11:37 AM

The Twins are hopeful that Liam Hendriks (food poisoning) can be released from the hospital on Sunday morning.

Hendriks will be replaced by Anthony Swarzak for Sunday's start, but he seems likely to be ready for his next outing. Of course, if Swarzak pitches well, the Twins could just stick with him. "I hope that [Hendriks] gets better as soon as possible because he's a pretty good pitcher," Swarzak said. "And in the big picture, we need as many good pitchers on as staff as we can get."
Apr 8 - 9:28 AM

Liam Hendriks (food poisoning) will miss his scheduled start against the Orioles on Sunday.

Hendriks pitched very well this spring, edging out Swarzak for the final spot in the rotation. With the uncertainty surrounding Scott Baker and Jason Marquis, he should still receive plenty of opportunities to start this season.
Apr 7 - 4:23 PM

Liam Hendriks gave up four runs in 5 1/3 innings Tuesday in a start against the Rays.

Hendriks took the loss and thus ends the spring 3-1 with a 2.84 ERA. He'll have a spot on the Twins and will probably make at least a couple of starts this month, but he could be bumped from the roster when either Jason Marquis or Scott Baker is activated.
Apr 3 - 4:31 PM

Liam Hendriks has made the Twins' Opening Day roster.

With Jason Marquis likely slated to start the season on the bereavement list and Scott Baker on the disabled list, Hendriks will open the season in Minnesota's rotation. AL-only owners will want to take note, as Hendriks is an intriguing sleeper. Baker and Francisco Liriano are injury prone, Nick Blackburn is no lock to last the season in the rotation, and Marquis is proven mediocrity. The moral of the story is that the Twins have informed Hendriks that he will remain in the rotation if he pitches well and the talented youngster doesn't have five giant obstacles looming to prevent his job retention if he shows early-season promise. The 23-year-old Aussie had a 1.80 ERA this spring. Don't go wild in drafts, but you could do much worse with a late-round AL-only flier pick.
Apr 1 - 8:11 PM

Liam Hendriks allowed just a single over five scoreless innings to defeat the Blue Jays on Friday.

The Jays have been just about unbeatable this spring, but Hendriks stopped them and improved to 3-0 for the month. One gets the feeling the Twins would have been better off just plugging him into the rotation instead of signing Jason Marquis. He still could have a spot at the start of the season if Scott Baker goes on the DL.
Mar 30 - 4:34 PM

Liam Hendriks tossed three hitless innings in Friday's 2-1 win over the Red Sox.

Pretty impressive. Hendriks threw 34 out of 51 pitches for strikes while fanning four and walking just one. The 23-year-old Aussie now has seven shutout innings during Grapefruit League action. He could be an option in the rotation if Scott Baker (elbow) ends up missing an extended period of time.
Mar 16 - 10:23 PM

Liam Hendriks gave up five runs in five innings Wednesday in a loss to the Royals.

Hendriks didn't fare as well in this one as he did in his debut last week against the White Sox. The Royals opened both the second and fourth innings with three straight singles. Hendriks gave up just one extra-base hit and he didn't walk anyone, but it's hard to give up that many hits in a row without getting hurt.
