Twins optioned LHP Tommy Milone to Triple-A Rochester.
Milone had been expected to be shifted to the bullpen with Ricky Nolasco slated to return on Friday, but it appears they'll keep him stretched out as a starter in Triple-A instead. He posted a 4.76 ERA and 13/11 K/BB ratio over 22 2/3 innings in the Twins rotation. May 1 - 11:37 PM

Tommy Milone is being moved to the bullpen.

He's getting the boot now that Ricky Nolasco (elbow) is slated to return from the disabled list. This means that Trevor May and Mike Pelfrey will remain in the starting rotation. Milone was great in his season debut, but has scuffled a bit since. He owns a 4.76 ERA and 13/11 K/BB ratio across 22 2/3 innings.
Apr 30 - 5:42 PM

Tommy Milone allowed five runs in four innings of work Monday, resulting in a loss against the Tigers.

Four of those runs came in the first inning, as Jose Iglesias hit a solo home run and Yoenis Cespedes hit a three-run round-tripper. From there, he was able to settle down for the most part. He allowed back-to-back singles in the fifth inning before departing in favor of reliever Tim Stauffer. Stauffer allowed one of his inherited runners to score on a sacrifice fly. All told, Milone gave up eight hits, walked two, and struck out two. The lefty has a 4.76 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and a 13/11 K/BB ratio over 24 2/3 innings. He'll look for better results when he takes on the White Sox at home next.
Apr 27 - 11:41 PM

Tommy Milone allowed four runs over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision Tuesday against the Royals.

Milone was actually in line for his third win before the bullpen faltered, but he was far from stellar. Two of the Royals' five hits were homers, and Milone also walked four in the outing. Even without the win, the southpaw owns a 3.38 ERA through three starts. He'll have a tall order when the Twins take on the Tigers on Monday.
Apr 21 - 11:13 PM

Tommy Milone yielded three runs in 5 1/3 innings Thursday in an 8-5 win over the Royals.

He fanned three in the win. Milone allowed seven hits and three walks, so he had his fair share of trouble, but he was able to wiggle around it more than Jason Vargas on this day. The 28-year-old owns a 2.08 ERA through his first two turns in the Twins' rotation, but he doesn't miss many bats and is unlikely to deliver much fantasy value this season.
Apr 16 - 4:57 PM

Tommy Milone delivered an outstanding performance in his season debut against the White Sox on Friday, scattering two hits and a pair of walks over 7 2/3 shutout innings.

Milone racked up seven strikeouts on the afternoon. He allowed a bunt single to Micah Johnson in the third inning and wouldn't surrender another hit until Tyler Flowers doubled in the seventh. He'll get the ball next against the Royals at home on Thursday and could be worthy of a spot start in deeper mixed leagues.
Apr 10 - 7:26 PM

In his first start since being named the Twins' fifth starter, Tommy Milone held the Yankees to one run in six innings to win Tuesday.

He struck out five. Milone beat out Mike Pelfrey and Trevor May for the lone opening in Minnesota's rotation. He doesn't come recommended in AL-only leagues, not with the Twins sporting the AL's worst outfield defense.
Mar 31 - 4:38 PM

Twins manager Paul Molitor confirmed Saturday that Tommy Milone would open the season as the fifth starter in the team's rotation.

The 28-year-old southpaw struggled in his limited time with the Twins in 2014, though he owns a career 3.98 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 490 1/3 major league innings. He should be a decent backend option in AL-only formats.
Mar 28 - 8:45 AM

Tommy Milone surrendered three runs in five innings Thursday in a no-decision versus the Red Sox.

It sounds as though the Twins are far from committed to Mike Pelfrey in the rotation, which could lead to Milone getting the gig. He has a 4.50 ERA and an 8/4 K/BB ratio in 14 innings this spring, so he's not exactly running away with the gig.
Mar 26 - 4:48 PM

Tommy Milone surrendered four runs through four innings in his start Saturday against the Orioles.

Milone had pitched five scoreless innings this spring before his odd day today. The guess right now is that Milone will make the Twins as a middle reliever, with Mike Pelfrey claiming the fifth spot in the rotation. It's not set in stone, though. Neither Milone nor Pelfrey is very interesting for fantasy purposes. Especially not Pelfrey.
Mar 21 - 4:21 PM

Tommy Milone pitched three scoreless innings Wednesday in his start against the Rays.

Milone struck out three and walked none. He's opened the spring with five scoreless innings, all against Tampa Bay. Milone is competing with Mike Pelfrey, Trevor May and Alex Meyer for the fifth spot in Minnesota's rotation.
Mar 11 - 5:15 PM

Tommy Milone pitched two scoreless innings Friday in his start versus the Rays.

The Twins have already made it clear that they don't see Mike Pelfrey as a reliever, suggesting that Milone might be on the outside looking in at the rotation when the season begins. He does seem like a better bet than Pelfrey to us, but given that he's a flyball pitcher set to work in front of a dreadful defensive outfield, he's still not a very appealing option.
Mar 6 - 4:22 PM

Tommy Milone admitted Saturday that he had a benign tumor removed from his neck on December 4.

He was able to resume throwing two weeks later and feels much better now after dealing with neck issues for much of the 2014 season. The 27-year-old southpaw has a strong chance to enter the 2015 campaign as a member of the Twins rotation and has appeal as a late-round option in AL-only and deeper mixed leagues.
Jan 24 - 2:03 PM

Twins and LHP Tommy Milone avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.775 million contract.

It's a significant raise for Milone, who was in his first year of arbitration eligibility. The left-hander held a 4.19 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 75/37 K/BB ratio over 118 innings for the A's and Twins last season and is in line to serve as Minnesota's No. 5 starter in 2015.
Jan 16 - 11:30 AM

Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that Tommy Milone is "penciled into" the Twins' 2015 rotation.

Milone wasn't very good in 2014, posting a 4.19 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 75/37 K/BB ratio over 118 innings for the A's and Twins. He was much better from 2011-13, though, and projects the left-hander to make a reasonable $2.8 million in arbitration. Milone should be a decent back-end starter for Minnesota.
