Tommy Milone struggled in Sunday's loss to the Red Sox, yielding eight runs (four earned) on 10 hits over 4 2/3 innings.
Milone wasn't helped by his defense, but given that seven of the eight runs on his line scored on home runs, he has nobody to truly blame but himself. Hanley Ramirez and Travis Shaw cracked three-run homers in the third and fifth innings (respectively). Dustin Pedroia also notched a solo dinger in that fifth. Milone will carry an unappealing 4.97 ERA and 1.49 WHIP into a home start against the White Sox next time he toes the rubber. Jul 24 - 6:59 PM

Tommy Milone took a shutout into the ninth and settled for a win after allowing two runs in 8 1/3 innings Tuesday against the Tigers.

Milone had a one-hitter going until the Tigers delivered three straight singles against him in the ninth. He then got a sac fly before being lifted in favor of Brandon Kintzler, who allowed two more singles before getting the last two outs. It was Milone's third straight victory after he opened the season winless in six starts and a relief appearance. His fantasy value remains limited to deep AL-only leagues.
Jul 19 - 10:50 PM

Tommy Milone won his second consecutive start on Sunday, limiting the Rangers to two runs on five hits over five frames.

The southpaw struck out three and walked three in the ballgame. While he wasn't great, the Twins offense provided more than enough run support to give him the easy victory. Milone's first half concludes with a 2-2 record, 5.23 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 28/14 K/BB ratio across 41 1/3 innings.
Jul 10 - 6:27 PM

Tommy Milone held his former team in check Tuesday, spinning six frames of one-run ball in an 11-4 victory over the Athletics.

Milone recorded just two strikeouts, but he also allowed only five hits and one walk, with a Marcus Semien solo shot representing the only tally against him. The southpaw had struggled in each of his lat two starts since rejoining the rotation, so he might have needed this effort to keep his spot. Milone will take on the Rangers on Sunday.
Jul 6 - 2:12 AM

Twins manager Paul Molitor wouldn't commit to Tommy Milone making another start.

Milone was unimpressive in Thursday's loss to the White Sox, allowing five earned runs in only 3 1/3 innings. Jose Berrios flirted with a no-hitter in his last start for Triple-A Rochester and could be ready for another shot at the major leagues. Milone holds an underwhelming 6.23 ERA in seven outings for the Twins this year.
Jun 30 - 6:46 PM

Tommy Milone was tagged for five runs in 3 1/3 innings by the White Sox on Thursday.

Milone's defense was partly to blame for his bad return to the majors last week, but this one was pretty much all on him. The Twins might as well give him another chance next week rather than make a change before the break, but they might want to give his spot to Jose Berrios soon.
Jun 30 - 5:49 PM

Tommy Milone gave up four runs (one earned) in 3 2/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Yankees.

His defense made a couple of errors behind him, but Milone looked really shaky after the first time through the order. He gave up six hits and a pair of walks before being pulled. The southpaw earned another shot in the Twins’ rotation after a dominant stint in Triple-A, but we’re not looking for much in the way of fantasy value here. He has a matchup against the White Sox next week on the road.
Jun 24 - 10:16 PM

Twins purchased the contract of LHP Tommy Milone from Triple-A Rochester.

He'll take the place of the struggling Pat Dean in the Twins rotation. The 29-year-old southpaw posted an outstanding 1.66 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 41/4 K/BB ratio over 48 2/3 innings spanning seven starts at Triple-A. He has shown the ability to be a useful fantasy commodity in the past and could be worth a look in deeper mixed leagues.
Jun 18 - 12:52 AM

Twins sent LHP Tommy Milone outright to Triple-A Rochester.

Milone apparently passed through waivers unclaimed. If he accepts the assignment, he'll continue to provide rotation depth for the Twins at Triple-A, though he may want to explore his opportunities elsewhere instead.
May 7 - 3:56 PM

The Twins have placed left-hander Tommy Milone on waivers, per Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press.

Casey Fien was also waived. Milone was demoted to the bullpen last week after going winless in his first four starts with a 5.79 ERA. His lone relief outing went just as poorly as Milone scattered two hits and three runs in just 3 1/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to Houston. The 29-year-old can't reject a minor league assignment if he clears waivers.
May 5 - 8:31 PM

Tommy Milone has been moved to the Twins' bullpen.

There had been whispers of him having a start skipped, but apparently he'll be removed from the rotation altogether. Milone has posted a 5.40 ERA over five starts this season. Ricky Nolasco will move up to start Sunday and Alex Meyer will replace Milone in the rotation.
Apr 29 - 5:28 PM

Tommy Milone could have his next turn in the rotation skipped.

Milone's spot comes up Sunday, but the Twins could start Ricky Nolasco on regular rest or possibly go with Alex Meyer. The left-hander holds a 5.40 ERA in his five starts and his time in the Twins' rotation might come to a close soon.
Apr 29 - 4:55 PM

Tommy Milone yielded two runs over just 4 2/3 innings but escaped with a no-decision in Monday's 4-3 win over the Indians.

Milone did strike out five, but he yielded seven hits and walked a pair. The left-hander has failed to go five innings in three of five starts this season and now holds a 5.40 ERA. The Twins have options with Alex Meyer, Tyler Duffey and Jose Berrios, so you have to figure Milone's rotation spot is on thin ice. He's currently scheduled to face the Tigers this weekend.
Apr 25 - 11:59 PM

Tommy Milone gratefully accepted a no-decision after getting knocked around for four runs in 4 2/3 innings on Wednesday night against the Brewers.

Milone racked up a high pitch count against a suddenly-patient Brewers club, throwing 102 pitches in under five innings. He managed to strike out six, but ultimately gave up a quartet of runs on five hits and two walks. Of course, the lefty is what he is at this point in his career, a back-end starter who doesn’t strike out enough batters to be interesting and doesn’t prevent enough runs to be rosterable. He now has a 5.87 ERA in 15 1/3 innings.
Apr 21 - 12:10 AM

Tommy Milone surrendered four runs over six innings Friday against the Angels, but didn’t factor into the decision.

The soft-tossing southpaw struck out two and walked one. Milone was solid for most of the night, holding the Angels scoreless until the sixth, but he gave up the lead on home runs by Albert Pujols and Kole Calhoun in the seventh. The Twins eventually game back to win and get him off the hook. Milone has a 5.06 ERA through his first two starts and has allowed four home runs in just 10 2/3 innings. Home runs are always going to be part of his game and he’s not a good source of strikeouts, so he’s strictly an AL-only option.
