Tommy Milone surrendered three runs -- two earned -- over six innings in Wednesday's no-decision versus the Angels.
Milone isn't going to blow anybody away, so there are going to be starts like tonight that could go one way or the other based on a whole bevy of circumstances. This evening, walking a pair and striking out only one didn't come back to bite him in a big way because he mostly avoided hard contact (six hits; four singles and two doubles). Milone has coughed up 16 hits over his first two starts, a frequency which must come down ASAP with the Rangers coming to town on Tuesday. Apr 17 - 2:35 AM

Making his first start of the year, Tommy Milone was charged with five runs -- three earned -- in five-plus innings Friday against the Mariners.

Poor Tommy has no luck at all. He led the AL in having batters reach on errors with 11 last year, despite being bounced in and out of the rotation a couple of times. His initial 2014 start tonight featured no fewer than five misplays from A's fielders, including three in the first and two in the fourth. The ones in the fourth were both termed errors, meaning those runs were unearned. The three in the first weren't (one came on a clean hit, the other two were ruled a bunt single and an infield single). If Milone hadn't had to get the four extra outs in the first four innings, then Mike Zunino's homer, which knocked him out of the game in the sixth, probably wouldn't have come until the seventh had it come at all.
Apr 12 - 1:39 AM

Athletics manager Bob Melvin announced Saturday that after Friday's rainout, Tommy Milone will be skipped in the rotation.

Sonny Gray will make Milone's scheduled start on Sunday instead. It's unclear when Milone will make his first start, but it could conceivably come on Thursday against the Twins in Minnesota.
Apr 5 - 2:25 PM

Tommy Milone allowed four runs (three earned) in five innings against the Reds during Tuesday's start.

Milone, who received confirmation that he would be in the A's rotation, allowed five hits and a walk while striking out two. He now has a 4.26 ERA on the spring.
Mar 25 - 6:17 PM

Athletics manager Bob Melvin confirmed Tuesday that Tommy Milone will be in the starting rotation.

Another expected decision. Milone, 27, had a 4.14 ERA and 126/39 K/BB ratio over 156 1/3 innings last season. He doesn't throw hard and the home run ball has been an issue for him, but he should have appeal in deeper mixed leagues, especially in home starts.
Mar 18 - 12:30 PM

Tommy Milone pitched well in Saturday's victory over the Giants, scattering three hits over five scoreless innings of work.

The 27-year-old southpaw walked a pair and struck out two in the game. It was a nice showing for Milone, who is now slated to begin the regular season in the A's rotation due to injuries to A.J. Griffin and Jarrod Parker. He gives up a lot of fly balls, but making half of his starts in O.Co Coliseum provides him with a chance to have success.
Mar 15 - 9:25 PM

Tommy Milone is likely to open the season in the Athletics' rotation following injuries to Jarrod Parker (forearm) and A.J. Griffin (elbow).

Milone has made 57 starts over the last two seasons for the A's but was probably bound for Triple-A before the unfortunate injury news for Oakland. The left-hander held a 4.14 ERA with 126 strikeouts over 156 1/3 frames for the A's last season. He needs to be owned in AL-only leagues and some deeper mixed formats.
Mar 14 - 3:42 PM

Tommy Milone allowed three runs in three innings against the Cubs on Tuesday.

Milone gave up the three runs on five hits, including a two-run home run by Justin Ruggiano. This marks back-to-back spring outings in which Milone has allowed three runs. Milone is playing for a job at the back of the Athletics' rotation, but needs to show better results as he faces stiff competition.
Mar 4 - 7:14 PM

Tommy Milone allowed three runs on four hits and two walks in two innings of work against the Brewers on Thursday.

Two of the hits were home runs, including a two-run shot by Ryan Braun in the first and a solo shot by Juan Francisco in the second. Milone was hoping for better fortune in his Cactus League debut as he is competing for a spot at the back of the Athletics' starting rotation.
Feb 27 - 5:25 PM

A's manager Bob Melvin said Tommy Milone will compete for a spot in the rotation next spring.

The left-hander ended the season on the wrong end of Oakland's pitching glut, but the A's haven't forgotten about him. Milone finished the season 12-9 with a 4.14 ERA after going 13-10 with a 3.74 ERA in 2012.

Tommy Milone yielded two runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings in Monday's victory over the Angels.

The left-hander struck out eight -- the most he's accrued in a start since May 1 against these very same Angels (Milone whiffed 10 over seven innings that day) -- and walked only one. Oakland employs a six-man rotation and has an off-day on Thursday, so this was Milone's last start unless Oakland wants to rest either Jarrod Parker or Sonny Gray for the playoffs. Milone is 12-9 with a 4.14 ERA on the year.

Tommy Milone will start for the Athletics against the Angels on Monday.

This will be done to give an extra day of rest to each of the A's regular starters. Milone fared well in a spot start his last time out, allowing one run in five innings in a victory over the Rangers. He could be worth a look as a streaming option in AL-only and deeper mixed leagues.

Tommy Milone was called upon to make an emergency start in place of Jarrod Parker who was scratched due to illness on Sunday, and responded in impressive fashion, allowing just one run over five innings in a victory over the Rangers.

Milone surrendered six hits and a walk while fanning five, needing just 86 pitches to get through his five frames. The only damage against him came on an RBI single from A.J. Pierzynski in the first inning, but he settled in beautifully afterwards. He’ll now take his 4.17 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 115/38 K/BB ratio back to the bullpen until the A’s are in need of another spot starter.

Athletics recalled LHP Tommy Milone from Triple-A Sacramento.

Milone has posted a 4.28 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 108/37 K/BB ratio in 143 innings this season with Oakland. He will presumably pitch in long relief down the stretch.
Tue, Sep 3, 2013 04:21:00 PM

Athletics optioned LHP Tommy Milone to Triple-A Sacramento.

Milone allowed three runs -- two earned -- over five innings in a victory over the Tigers on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough to save his rotation spot. However, he should be back in September.
