Asher Wojciechowski (lat) has progressed to throwing off a mound in extended spring training.
Wojciechowski missed all of spring training with a strained right lat, but it appears he's making some progress. He could potentially be ready around the beginning of May but is no sure thing to be added to the big league roster. Apr 15 - 7:59 PM

Astros placed RHP Asher Wojciechowski on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, with a strained right lat.

Wojciechowski has been nursing a strained right lat since the beginning of camp. The Astros don't expect the right-hander to miss more than the first couple weeks of the season.

Asher Wojciechowski (lat) is expected to begin the season on the disabled list.

Wojciechowski has been nursing a strained right lat since the beginning of camp and had a setback Sunday when he attempted to throw softly into a net for the third straight day. "I think the first time we tried to get him going we realized he wasn’t quite ready," general manager Jeff Luhnow said. "We want to be a little more conservative this time around so we’re being very cautious." Luhnow added that he doesn't expect Wojciechowski to miss more than "the first couple of weeks of the season." The righty will surely be assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City once he's healthy.
Mar 14 - 12:21 PM

Asher Wojciechowski flew to Houston to receive a platelet-rich plasma injection in his right lat muscle.

"It’s supposed to help with the recovery time," Wojciechowski said Wednesday. The 25-year-old right-hander hasn't been showing improvement in the muscle in recent days, so the injection may be the trick. He will return to Florida late Thursday, but it's unclear how long he'll remained sidelined.
Feb 26 - 7:11 PM

Asher Wojciechowski's second MRI on Monday did not show improvement in his right lat muscle.

It's not clear what the next step will be, but he'll presumably be shut down for a while. Wojciechowski could get a late start to the season at this point.

Asher Wojciechowski (lat) is undergoing more tests following an MRI on Monday.

Wojciechowski strained his lat during a bullpen session two weeks ago and felt continued soreness after attempting to throw last Thursday. It's not a good sign, but we should know more soon.
Feb 26 - 9:49 AM

Asher Wojciechowski (lat) remained sore on Friday after attempting to throw on Thursday.

The 25-year-old right-hander was shut down last week after straining his lat during a bullpen session. He attempted to resume throwing on Thursday, but experienced renewed soreness and decided to take things easy and shut it down. He's expected to compete for a spot in the Astros rotation, but won't risk further injury by rushing himself back to the mound.

Asher Wojciechowski (lat) will resume throwing Thursday.

Wojciechowski was recently shut down after straining his lat during a bullpen session. It could be a few days before the 25-year-old is ready to get back on a mound, but he's moving in the right direction.
Feb 19 - 9:01 AM

Asher Wojciechowski will not throw for a few days after an MRI on his right lat revealed a strain and some fluid.

Wojciechowski hurt the muscle during a recent bullpen session. He's doing well building strength in the area, so it's not a major concern. The 25-year-old posted a 3.32 ERA and 131/51 K/BB ratio in 160 innings last season between Double- and Triple-A and hopes to compete for a rotation spot this spring.
Feb 17 - 4:18 PM

Asher Wojciechowski underwent a precautionary MRI late Friday after hurting a muscle during a previous bullpen session.

It's unclear what muscle Wojciechowski tweaked, but the pitcher isn't too concerned with the injury. The 25-year-old has a shot to win a rotation spot this spring, but he's more likely to be a midseason call-up. Wojciechowski was 9-7 with a 3.56 ERA for Triple-A Oklahoma City last season.
Feb 15 - 6:45 PM

Astros purchased the contract of RHP Asher Wojciechowski from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Acquired from the Blue Jays on July 20, 2012 in a 10-player trade that included such baseball luminaries as Francisco Cordero, Ben Francisco, J.A. Happ, Brandon Lyon and David Carpenter, Wojciechowski has a decent chance of providing more value, in the end, than anyone else included in that swap. He went 9-7 with a 3.56 ERA over 134 innings in Kevin Durant's home city this past season and is just about big show ready.

Astros acquired RHP Asher Wojciechowski from the Blue Jays.

He's the most highly thought of prospect that the 'Stros acquired in the massive 10-team deal that went down Friday. A 2010 sandwich round pick, Wojciechowski holds a 3.57 ERA and 76/22 K/BB ratio over 93 1/3 innings at High-A this season, numbers that aren't terribly impressive when you consider he'll turn 24 over the winter.
