Brewers prospect Luis Sardinas extended his hitting streak to six games Tuesday in a loss to Triple-A Round Rock.
Only one of his nine hits has gone for extra bases, but Sardinas has never been much of a power hitter. He hit a respectable .261 in his first cup of coffee in the major leagues last season and should get another shot in the bigs later this year. The 21-year-old has experience at three of the four infield positions and has speed to burn on the base paths. Apr 15 - 4:05 PM

Brewers optioned INF Luis Sardinas to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Sardinas was acquired from the Rangers over the winter as part of the package for starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo. The 21-year-old infielder hasn't hit much in the minors, but he does have good speed and he's one of the only decent prospects in the Brewers' farm system. Sardinas should see some MLB action this season.

Luis Sardinas went 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in Saturday's Cactus League win over the Rangers.

Facing his former organization, Sardinas showed why the Brewers were willing to part with Yovani Gallardo to acquire him this winter. The 21-year-old likely won't break camp with the club, but he's one of their best prospects and he could see the majors at some point this season.
Mar 21 - 7:27 PM

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Padres have discussed trading for Brewers shortstop Luis Sardinas.

The Brewers picked up Sardinas as he key piece of the Yovani Gallardo trade from the Rangers in mid-January. Rosenthal notes that there have been no recent discussions between the two clubs though. The Brewers organization appears to be very high on the young infielder, so flipping him elsewhere seems very unlikely.
Jan 31 - 3:22 PM

Brewers acquired INF Luis Sardinas and RHPs Corey Knebel and Marcos Diplan from the Rangers for RHP Yovani Gallardo and cash considerations.

Sardinas was recently ranked as the Rangers' No. 7 prospect by Baseball America. The 21-year-old hit just .261/.303/.313 across 125 plate appearances as a rookie last season, but he makes contact and can play solid defense. He might not make it as a regular, but he can be a solid backup middle infielder at the very least.
Jan 19 - 5:59 PM

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports hears that the Brewers will acquire middle infielder Luis Sardinas and right-handers Corey Knebel and Marcos Diplan from the Rangers in the Yovani Gallardo deal.

Passan hears that the deal is "done," but we're still waiting on an official announcement from the teams involved. Either way, it's a solid return for a pitcher on the decline. Known for his glove, the 21-year-old Sardinas appeared in 43 games with the Rangers last season and owns a .289/.336/.355 batting line in the minors. Knebel, 23, was a supplemental first-round pick of the Tigers in 2013 and could be a future closer if he can remain healthy. Diplan, 18, had a 1.54 ERA and 57/36 K/BB ratio over 64 1/3 innings with the Rangers' Dominican Summer League team last year.
Jan 19 - 5:09 PM

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that Luis Sardinas could be included in a potential deal with the Brewers for Yovani Gallardo.

Rosenthal notes that the 21-year-old infielder has been offered in several other potential deals this offseason. It does not appear that the Brewers would be looking for rotation help in return, as they have a strong desire to insert Jimmy Nelson into their rotation for 2015.
Jan 18 - 10:25 PM

Luis Sardinas went 3-for-5 with two doubles, four RBI and two runs scored in the Rangers' lopsided 10-3 win over the Braves Sunday.

Sardinas was all over the place for the Rangers, delivering an RBI double in the fourth inning, an RBI single in the fifth and another double, a two-run knock, in the sixth. The good day raised Sardinas' average from .253 to .271 in one game, and he doubled his RBI total with the performance. It's a glimpse of what could be for the 21-year-old.

Luis Sardinas went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in Wednesday's win over the Twins.

Sardinas provided the only run-scoring that either team could muster on the evening, driving in Leonys Martin with a single in the seventh inning to break a scoreless tie. Sardinas otherwise hasn't done much with the bat in limited playing time, slashing .280/.308/.320.

Rangers recalled INF Luis Sardinas from Double-A Frisco.

Sardinas, who turns 21 later this month, already appeared in three games with the Rangers last month. Known for his speed and defense, he was hitting .253/.278/.333 through 21 games in Double-A this season. He'll serve as middle infield depth during his latest stint with the big club.

Rangers optioned INF Luis Sardinas to Double-A Frisco.

The move clears room on the roster for Matt Harrison. Sardinas had one hit in three at-bats during his brief time with the club. He'll go back to playing regularly at Frisco.

Rangers recalled INF Luis Sardinas from Double-A Frisco.

The 20-year-old infielder was off to a slow start this year at the Double-A level, batting just .226 with a .519 OPS. But he was rated a Top 75 prospect over the winter by Baseball Prospectus and could have an exciting future. He stole 32 bases in the minors last year.

Rangers optioned RHPs Ben Rowen and Wilmer Font to Triple-A Round Rock and INF Luis Sardinas and RHP Lisalverto Bonilla to Double-A Frisco; reassigned 2B Rougned Odor and RHP Armando Rodriguez to minor league camp.

Odor and Sardinas are both 20-year-old top prospects that will likely have to wait until 2015 to make their big league debuts. Rowen and Font figure to provide bullpen depth at the Triple-A level. The 23-year-old Bonilla, acquired from the Phillies in the Michael Young deal, is an intriguing relief prospect.
