Red Sox activated SS Xander Bogaerts from the 7-day disabled list.

Bogaerts began exhibiting concussion-like symptoms after taking a Felix Hernandez pitch off his helmet last Friday, so the Red Sox decided to play it safe with their young shortstop. He'll be back in action Saturday night.

Xander Bogaerts (concussion) has been cleared to return to the Red Sox active roster on Saturday.

Bogaerts was placed on the 7-day concussion disabled list last weekend, but he's been symptom-free since Monday and officially passed MLB's protocols on Wednesday. Bogaerts will try to finish the 2014 season on a positive note. He's batted just .223/.293/.333 so far.
Aug 27 - 5:18 PM

Xander Bogaerts (concussion) is expected to rejoin the Red Sox' lineup this weekend.

Bogaerts was placed on the concussion disabled list over the weekend but is now symptom-free. He'll need to officially be cleared by MLB first, but things are looking up for his return this weekend. "He's had a good day to day," manager John Farrell said. "He's come in and he's pretty much feeling symptom free, so we'll go through the next steps to get approval from MLB."
Aug 26 - 9:52 PM

Red Sox placed INF Xander Bogaerts on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Bogaerts was hit in the head on Friday and sat out the remainder of the weekend. While he reported improvement on Saturday and Sunday, he wasn't able to pass his concussion tests so the team will play things cautiously.
Aug 24 - 6:19 PM

Red Sox manager John Farrell said Sunday that Xander Bogaerts (head) is still undergoing concussion tests.

Bogaerts was beaned on Friday and has now missed two straight starts. He did report improvement on Saturday, but the Red Sox obviously want to make sure he can go through all necessary activities without having concussion symptoms. Brock Holt is at shortstop Sunday.
Aug 24 - 11:12 AM

Xander Bogaerts (head) is hoping to return to the lineup on Sunday.

Bogaerts reported improvement Saturday after Friday's beaning, but he sat out Saturday's game and still needed to go through concussion tests. There's no word yet on how those went. "Any time you get hit in the head and removed from the game, you’ve got to go through a protocol, which he’s going through today," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "Just to see if there’s any concussion symptoms."
Aug 24 - 9:21 AM

Xander Bogaerts is being evaluated for a concussion after a HBP in the head on Friday.

Bogaerts initially stayed in the game after being hit in the head by a Felix Hernandez pitch, but he left an inning later. The shortstop was 0-for-1 before leaving. The club should have more information on his injury and availability in the coming days.
Aug 22 - 10:00 PM

Xander Bogaerts was removed from Friday's game against the Mariners after being hit in the helmet by a pitch.

Bogaerts was hit by a Felix Hernandez pitch in the fifth inning but stayed in until the sixth. Brock Holt pinch hit for him in the sixth inning. That he was able to stay in and play shortstop suggests he may have avoided a concussion, but the Red Sox should provide more information on his status after the game.
Aug 22 - 9:35 PM

Xander Bogaerts went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Friday's extra-inning loss to the Astros.

It was another tough night for Bogaerts, who also made a miscue in the eighth inning which led to the Astros tying the ballgame. He's now batting just .154 over his last 52 games and .231/.294/.346 for the year.
Aug 16 - 12:34 AM

Xander Bogaerts plated both Boston runs with a double and a sac fly Wednesday in a 2-1 win over the Cardinals.

Bogaerts' sac fly came after pinch-hitter David Ortiz was intentionally walked in the ninth (the walk was a given, considering the Red Sox had runners on second and third when Ortiz was sent to the plate). Bogaerts entered the night 0-for-11 in his previous three games. He has just 28 RBI in 387 at-bats this season.
Aug 7 - 1:00 AM

Xander Bogaerts attempted to spark a ninth-inning rally by himself, hitting a solo home run off of Casey Janssen, but the Red Sox ultimately fell to the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

It's been a tough year for the third baseman, but the Red Sox hope the flash of power on display Tuesday is a sign of things to come. The 21-year-old owns a .241/.311/.362 slash line with eight home runs and 26 RBI.
Jul 29 - 10:28 PM

Xander Bogaerts had an RBI and scored two runs in a win over the Astros on Sunday.

Bogaerts actually went hitless in the game, but he found ways to contribute nonetheless. The 21-year-old hit an RBI sacrifice fly in the third inning, and he scored in the second and seventh innings in the Red Sox' rout. He finishes the first half with a meager .235/.311/.348 line, but he's talented enough to turn that around in the second half.
Jul 13 - 7:24 PM

Red Sox manager John Farrell said Wednesday that the team has not considered demoting Xander Bogaerts.

Bogaerts went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Wednesday's blowout loss to the Cubs and is batting .099 with a .287 OPS over his last 97 plate appearances. But the Red Sox feel the talented 21-year-old can figure it out at the major league level. "What we monitor is, does (a slump) become a distraction inside the lines? And right now, it’s not," Farrell said. "He is somebody we believe in and continue to have him in the lineup and provide opportunities."
Jul 3 - 8:58 AM

Xander Bogaerts is not in the Red Sox starting lineup for Sunday night's contest against the Yankees.

The struggling infielder will take a night off, as he's mired in a 2-for-35 slump (.057) over his last nine games. Brock Holt will draw the start at the hot corner while Mookie Betts debuts in right field.
