Xander Bogaerts got his long-awaited first home run of the 2017 season Thursday, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored in a 6-2 win over the Rangers.
Bogaerts got hold of a Nick Martinez offering in the third inning, lining it just over the top of the Green Monster to get him on the board. It's hard to believe he hadn't lucked into one before this, especially after he hit a career-best 21 dingers in 2016. It's a big one, but that's really the only knock against the 24-year-old this year, as he's been a terrific offensive performer by basically any other metric. Bogaerts is hitting .335/.398/.470 with eight steals, 17 RBI and 29 runs scored overall. May 26 - 12:27 AM

Xander Bogaerts went 3-for-4 with three RBI and four runs scored in the Red Sox's 11-6 win over the Rangers on Tuesday.

Incredibly, Bogaerts still doesn't have a homer this season after hitting 21 last year. What he does have is a .329 average, giving him an .840 OPS even though he's never left the yard. Still, homers would help him out a bunch in the other fantasy categories, particularly in RBI; he's driven in just 15 runs in 40 games this year after coming in at 89 in 157 games in 2016.

Xander Bogaerts (thumb) is back in the Red Sox lineup Saturday against the Orioles.

He jammed his thumb sliding into second Thursday against Toronto. Bogaerts didn't start Friday's series opener but appeared as a defensive replacement later in the game. He'll bat leadoff with Dustin Pedroia (leg) getting the day off on Saturday. Bogaerts holds a .333 average this year, but only one of his 16 hits has gone for extra bases.

X-rays on Xander Bogaerts' left thumb came back negative.

While the thumb isn't fractured, it's still swollen and bothers Bogaerts when he tries to swing a bat. He's not in the Red Sox' lineup on Friday but is hoping to be back in there on Saturday. The shortstop was injured Thursday while sliding into second base.
Apr 21 - 5:06 PM

Xander Bogaerts (thumb) is not in the Red Sox' lineup Friday.

Bogaerts went for tests after jamming his left thumb Thursday while sliding into second base. While he's not in Friday's lineup, the fact that he hasn't been placed on the disabled list suggests it's a day-to-day situation. Marco Hernandez is at shortstop Friday.
Apr 21 - 3:11 PM

Xander Bogaerts went for tests on his left thumb after Thursday's game against the Blue Jays.

Bogaerts clubbed a go-ahead single in the ninth inning but jammed his thumb sliding into second base (he was called out after the Tigers challenged the play). He stayed in the game but was clearly at less than 100 percent. He'll be re-evaluated Friday before the Red Sox begin their three-game set at Baltimore. Brock Holt and Marco Hernandez are candidates to fill in at shortstop.

Apr 11 - 2:06 PM

Red Sox manager John Farrell said during an appearance on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that Xander Bogaerts will return to the lineup Tuesday.

Bogaerts was originally expected to return from the bereavement list on Monday, but his flight was canceled. The Red Sox have yet to make an official roster move to add him back to the active roster, but feel free to plug him into your fantasy lineup.

Apr 10 - 9:46 AM

Red Sox placed SS Xander Bogaerts on the bereavement list.

Bogaerts is expected to be away through the weekend before rejoining the team on Monday. Marco Hernandez has been recalled to take his roster spot and could see some playing time at shortstop, but Brock Holt figures to be the main beneficiary.
Apr 6 - 11:39 AM

Xander Bogaerts will bat sixth in Monday's season opener against the Pirates.

Bogaerts mostly batted second or third last season, but he's moving down in the lineup after his second half-fade. The result is a promotion for impressive young ster Andrew Benintendi. The full lineup for Boston against Gerrit Cole: Dustin Pedroia 2B, Benintendi LF, Mookie Betts RF, Hanley Ramirez DH, Mitch Moreland 1B, Bogaerts SS, Jackie Bradley, Jr. CF, Pablo Sandoval 3B, Sandy Leon C. 2016 AL Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello will make the start for the Red Sox.

Bogaerts was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. The young shortstop sported a .294/.356/.446 batting line with a career-high 21 homers and 84 RBI last season.
Jan 13 - 4:15 PM

Xander Bogaerts is considering playing for Aruba in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.

This, according to Bogaerts' agent, Scott Boras. The 24-year-old shortstop is coming off a 2016 season in which he slashed .294/.356/.446 with 21 homers, 89 RBI and 13 steals.
