Xander Bogaerts has been diagnosed with a bruised left forearm after being hit by a pitch in Thursday's game.

Red Sox fans and fantasy owners can breathe a sigh of relief that there's no serious damage. The young shortstop should return to the lineup in a day or two.

Xander Bogaerts was removed from Thursday's game against the Rangers after being hit by a pitch in his left wrist.

He remained in the game for a few innings after he was drilled, but was pinch-hit for his next time through the order. He'll presumably head for precautionary X-rays and the Red Sox should have an update on his status after the game.
May 28 - 9:28 PM

Xander Bogaerts hit just his second homer of the year Wednesday against the Rangers.

Bogaerts has essentially been a league average offensive shortstop with his .260 average, two homers and 10 walks in 131 at-bats, but that's because the shortstops as a whole have been pretty awful this season. He's been pretty solid defensively, too; while his range isn't the greatest, miscues have been few and far between. Of course, the hope was that Bogaerts would be a whole lot better than average. He still might be, but nothing so far suggests he's on the verge of breaking out.
May 20 - 10:50 PM

Xander Bogaerts is not in the Red Sox' lineup.

It's just a day off for Bogaerts, who has struggled with a .211/.250/.316 batting line this month. Brock Holt is at shortstop Wednesday.
May 13 - 12:44 PM

Xander Bogaerts went 1-for-3 with an RBI triple, but the Red Sox lost 5-1 to the Rays on Monday.

Bogaerts' second-inning RBI triple off of Jake Odorizzi ended up being the only offense the Red Sox would generate on the evening. The shortstop hasn't done much at the dish as he's still looking for his first multi-hit game since April 17. Bogaerts is batting .264/.326/.368 with one home run and 11 RBI in 95 plate appearances.
May 4 - 11:00 PM

Xander Bogaerts is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Rays.

He'll get a breather with right-hander Chris Archer on the hill for Tampa Bay. Brock Holt will make the start at shortstop for Boston as he continues to bounce all around the field for Boston in the early going.
Apr 21 - 3:11 PM

Xander Bogaerts went 2-for-4 with a walk-off RBI single in a 3-2 win over the Orioles on Friday night.

Mike Napoli led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a walk against Brian Matusz before Daniel Nava sacrificed him over to second and Bogaerts cashed him in with a bloop single to right field. It was his first career walk-off hit. Bogaerts, who also had a run scored on the night, now owns a healthy .395/.452/.474 batting line through nine games this season. The Red Sox are 7-3 on the year.
Apr 17 - 11:05 PM

Xander Bogaerts (knee) is back in the Red Sox' lineup Wednesday.

Bogaerts needed an MRI after tweaking his knee while rounding third base during Monday's game, but the test came back clean and he wound up missing just one game. The young infielder sports a nifty .433/.500/.533 batting line in the early going this season.
Apr 15 - 10:34 AM

An MRI on Xander Bogaerts' right knee came back negative.

He could return to the lineup as soon as Wednesday. It's obviously great news for the Red Sox and Bogaerts' fantasy owners, as the shortstop has been scorching hot at the plate. He had injured his knee while rounding third base during Monday's game.
Apr 14 - 9:48 PM

Xander Bogaerts was sent for an MRI on his right knee.

Bogaerts is off to a red-hot start at the plate, so this is unfortunate to hear. The Red Sox should have an update on his status soon. Brock Holt will start in his place at shortstop Tuesday night against the Nationals.
Apr 14 - 3:33 PM

Xander Bogaerts is out of Tuesday's lineup against the Nationals.

Brock Holt will start at shortstop against Stephen Strasburg. Shane Victorino is also sitting while Daniel Nava gets another start. Meanwhile, Hanley Ramirez (foot) is in the lineup after making an early exit on Monday.
Apr 14 - 2:06 PM

Xander Bogaerts had four hits -- all of them coming in extras -- and scored the go-ahead run in the 19th as the Red Sox edged the Yankees 6-5 on Friday.

The game took six hours and 49 minutes -- not including a 16-minute delay after the lights went out behind home plate -- making it the longest contest in Red Sox history and second longest for the Yankees. By inning, it was the longest game the teams had played since 1967. The Red Sox blew one-run leads in the ninth, 16th and 18th innings before finally prevailing. It was a Mookie Betts sac fly that scored Bogaerts in the 19th. Steven Wright, already having blown two leads, allowed a leadoff single in the bottom of the 19th, but he got a flyout and a double play to end it.
Apr 11 - 3:00 AM

Xander Bogaerts went 3-for-4 with a bases-loaded triple and a walk as the Red Sox topped the Phillies 6-2 on Thursday.

The triple was a flare down the right-field line that Jeff Francoeur couldn't run down. Except for a couple of impressive shots early in the spring, Bogaerts really hasn't been hitting the ball hard, which is why the Red Sox had him batting eighth behind Ryan Hanigan the last couple of days. The talent is still there, though, and even if it doesn't fully materialize, playing for the Red Sox should ensure that he posts solid run and RBI numbers.
Apr 9 - 10:40 PM

Xander Bogaerts went 0-for-3 and made a costly error at shortstop Saturday against the Rays.

The error on a routine play kickstarted a five-run inning for the Rays. Bogaerts homered in two of his first three games of the spring, but he's 5-for-27 with no homers since. On the plus side, he still has a nice 5/6 K/BB ratio for the spring. There won't be as much pressure on him in Boston this year, as he's facing no competition at shortstop and he's being asked to hit towards the bottom of a productive lineup. He's still being counted on to step up his play, though.
