Xander Bogaerts is not in the Red Sox starting lineup on Saturday.
This is the first day of rest that Bogaerts has received this season. The 21-year-old shortstop is off to a strong start to the season, hitting .271/.411/.356 with a homer and three RBI in his first 17 games. Apr 19 - 10:07 AM

Xander Bogaerts hit his first homer of the year to give the Red Sox their lone run in seven innings against Chris Sale on Thursday.

Bogaerts doesn't yet have consistent major league power at age 21, but he does show glimpses and it's only a matter of time until he's a 20- or 25-homer guy. For this year, expect more modest numbers. That he's worth owning in mixed leagues anyway owes much to Fenway and the surrounding members of Boston's lineup (even if the group is off to a slow start).
Apr 18 - 12:02 AM

Xander Bogaerts went 3-for-4 and scored two of Boston's runs in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Orioles.

After an ice-cold start to his spring, Bogaerts picked it up during the final week of play, and he's started the regular season 5-for-9 with three walks and one strikeout in three games. The power might not be there yet to make him a top fantasy shortstop, but it's only a matter of time.
Apr 3 - 10:23 PM

Xander Bogaerts hit his second spring homer Wednesday against the Orioles.

Bogaerts and Will Middlebrooks went back-to-back off Miguel Gonzalez in the fourth. Bogaerts is warming up at the right time; he has hit in four straight to raise his spring average from .176 to .234.
Mar 26 - 5:19 PM

Xander Bogaerts went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base against the Pirates on Wednesday.

Bogaerts has had a rough spring, but he had a good day Wednesday. Bogaerts notched two singles, recorded an RBI and stole his first base of the spring. He's still hitting just .194 in exhibition play, but a spring slump isn't a reason to worry about the 21-year-old. He'll be just fine.
Mar 19 - 11:39 PM

Xander Bogaerts went 0-for-3 on Tuesday, dropping his spring average to .143.

Michael Pineda made him look bad with a slider today, but that hasn't been par for the course this spring. It was just Bogaerts' sixth strikeout to go along with six walks in 34 plate appearances. Bogaerts also has a homer and a couple of doubles among his four hits. He just hasn't found any singles yet. We're not concerned, and it doesn't seem like the Red Sox are, either.
Mar 18 - 4:30 PM

Xander Bogaerts will work out exclusively at shortstop for the time being.

Bogaerts played a lot of third base down the stretch last season and during the postseason, but the Red Sox don't want to overload him there, especially since he's currently projected to begin the season as the starting shortstop. The situation is obviously subject to change, as the Red Sox haven't ruled out re-signing Stephen Drew.
Feb 11 - 10:45 AM

Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said this month that they are not yet thinking about locking up Xander Bogaerts to a long-term contract.

Coming off an impressive postseason campaign, the 21-year-old is expected to take over the reins at shortstop in 2014. While the idea isn't being considered yet, a strong rookie season would certainly lead Cherington and company to discuss a deal next offseason.

Xander Bogaerts will get a second straight start at third base in Saturday's Game 6 of the ALCS.

Bogaerts doubled, walked and scored a run in Game 5 to earn another shot. The young infielder has two hits in five at-bats during the postseason. Will Middlebrooks, who is 1-for-10 with five strikeouts in the ALCS, will be on the bench again.

Xander Bogaerts is in the Red Sox starting lineup Thursday for Game 5 of the ALCS against the Tigers.

Bogaerts will start at third base over Will Middlebrooks, who is 1-for-10 with five strikeouts in the American League Championship Series. The full Boston lineup for Game 5: Jacoby Ellsbury CF, Shane Victorino RF, Dustin Pedroia 2B, David Ortiz DH, Mike Napoli 1B, Jonny Gomes LF, Stephen Drew SS, Xander Bogaerts 3B, David Ross C. Jon Lester will be on the mound.

Xander Bogaerts could get his first postseason start in Game 5 of the ALCS on Thursday night in Detroit.

Stephen Drew is 1-for-13 with six strikeouts in this series and Will Middlebrooks is 1-for-10 with five strikeouts. Red Sox manager John Farrell acknowledged after Wednesday's loss that it might be time to shake things up. Bogaerts, 21, batted .297/.388/.477 with 15 homers and 67 RBI in 116 games this year in the minors.

Xander Bogaerts crushed his first career homer over the visitor's bullpen in left field at Yankee Stadium on Saturday.

He finished 2-for-4 and added a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Bogaerts entered the game without an extra-base hit in 20 big league at-bats. The 20-year-old is one of the best prospects in baseball, but he'd accrued only one plate appearance since September 2 prior to this afternoon. Bogaerts is worth rostering in AL-only formats, but he simply won't play enough to have a chance at mixed league relevance.

Xander Bogaerts will start at third base Wednesday against the Orioles.

Bogaerts has made three appearances at third base since coming up from the minors, but this is his first start. The 20-year-old is one of the most exciting prospects in the majors, but might not garner enough playing time in September to be worth using in standard mixed leagues.

Xander Bogaerts is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles.

He's sitting, even with left-hander Wei-Yin Chen on the hill for Baltimore. Bogaerts is plenty talented, but he might not play enough to justify keeping around unless you are in a fantasy leagues which allows for daily lineup changes.

Xander Bogaerts went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in Sunday night's win over the Dodgers.

It was his first multi-hit game since being called up on Monday. Bogaerts is batting .333 (3-for-9) over four games with Boston and is a must-own in standard leagues.
