Seattle claimed Witherspoon off waivers from the Angels in October after he slashed just .214/.299/.342 in 129 games with a Double-A affiliate. The 24-year-old is blessed with the tools to succeed, but he's running out of time to implement them.

Witherspoon, 24, batted just .214/.299/.342 in 129 games with the Angels' Double-A affiliate this season. Still, the Mariners are intrigued enough to take a chance on the toolsy outfielder.

Angels purchased the contract of OF Travis Witherspoon from Double-A Arkansas.

Witherspoon, 23, has a .264/.332/.417 batting line over four pro seasons and is 110-for-133 in stolen base attempts. He struggled a bit following a mid-season promotion to Double-A Arkansas, but the Angels aren't about to give up on the toolsy outfielder.

Travis Witherspoon went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and a walk Thursday for low Single-A Cedar Rapids.

Witherspoon, who turns 22 tomorrow, hit .309/.365/.472 in 71 games int he Pioneer League last year, and he's off to a .313/.405/.556 start this year. Still, perhaps his best stat is that he's 27-for-27 stealing bases the last two seasons. He's been caught just once in 38 attempts since debuting in 2009.
