Kyle Weiland (shoulder) is doubtful to pitch this year.

Weiland underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder in May and later needed treatment for an infection that developed around his surgical wound. "Given how much time he’s missed, I’d be surprised if he made it back into the competition this year," said Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow. "Our focus is on just getting him healthy and getting him ready to recover in the offseason and come into spring training."

Kyle Weiland (shoulder) recently had his peripherally inserted central catheter line removed.

Weiland has been out since late April with a shoulder injury and has dealt with an infection, which necessitated the catheter line. He's lost weight and needs to build up his strength and muscle density before he can resume baseball-related activities. "It's going to be a long process," Astros manager Brad Mills said.

Kyle Weiland (shoulder) began his rehab Wednesday by doing range-of-motion exercises.

Weiland underwent arthroscopic surgery last week and is hoping to be able to throw a baseball in a month. The Astros aren't counting on him returning before the All-Star break.

Astros GM Jeff Luhnow said that Kyle Weiland (shoulder) is on an antibiotics regimen that he believes will be a matter of "weeks" rather than days.

Weiland is eligible to return from the disabled list Sunday, but doesn't appear close to making a return. He remains without a timetable. Jordan Lyles is expected to replace him in the rotation.

Kyle Weiland underwent arthroscopic surgery Tuesday on his sore right (throwing) shoulder.

Weiland was placed on the disabled list retroactive to April 22 with a shoulder infection. Now that it has been cleared up, he can work back towards full health. There's no timetable for his return to the majors.

Astros placed RHP Kyle Weiland on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 22, with right shoulder bursitis.

The Astros were already going to skip Weiland's turn in the rotation, but now they've decided to play it safe an DL the youngster. Weiland posted a 6.62 ERA through his first 17 2/3 innings, but it's not clear whether the shoulder was bothering him during any of his three outings. The good news is that no structural damage in the shoulder was found, and a short DL stint is expected. Jordan Lyles would be an option to replace him in the rotation.

Kyle Weiland will be skipped in the rotation this week due to shoulder soreness.

Weiland has been pushed back to next Tuesday, so it doesn't appear to be a major concern at the moment. Wandy Rodriguez will move up in the rotation to start Friday against the the Reds.

Kyle Weiland turned in his best effort of the season against the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits in his seven innings of work.

Weiland struck out six and walked just one. He surrendered a solo home run to James Loney in the second inning, and was tagged by Matt Kemp for a two-run blast in the sixth. Even with the improved effort, his ERA stands at 6.62 through his first 17 2/3 innings. He’ll continue the search for his first win when he takes on the Reds in Cincinnati next week.

Kyle Weiland was lit up by the Nationals Monday, giving up six runs on 10 hits and four walks over 5 2/3 innings.

He struck out just two and served up a homer to Wilson Ramos. Weiland now holds an 8.44 ERA and 2.25 WHIP through two starts, and it's possible his rotation spot could be in jeopardy if he doesn't right the ship soon. He'll try for better results against the Dodgers this weekend.

Kyle Weiland struggled in his Astros debut allowing four runs on eight hits in his five innings of work.

He walked two and struck out five. With the rest of the Astros rotation off to a nice start, Weiland will have to pitch better than this in his next few outings or he may be a candidate to be replaced by Jordan Lyles. Weiland will square off against the Nationals next week.

Kyle Weiland yielded three runs and five hits in six innings Friday in a loss to the Braves.

Weiland has earned his spot in Houston's rotation, though whether he'll get one is still up in the air. His ERA jumped to 2.86 tonight, but he had a nice outing with five strikeouts and just one walk.

Kyle Weiland, Jordan Lyles and Lucas Harrell will compete for the final two spots in the Astros rotation following the release of Livan Hernandez.

Weiland and Harrell have pitched the best in camp, posting ERAs of 2.25 and 2.16, respectively, while Lyles holds a 6.32 mark. Knowing they won't be in contention this season, the Astros have decided to go with a youth movement in the rotation, and we applaud them for it. We could see some NL-only value for whoever in the group winds up in the rotation.

Kyle Weiland yielded two runs and six hits in five innings Saturday against the Pirates.

Weiland has a nice 2.25 ERA this spring, though it comes with a poor 8/7 K/BB ratio in 16 innings. He's still outperforming Jordan Lyles in the competition to become the Astros' fifth starter.

Kyle Weiland allowed two runs in three innings Monday against the Marlins.

Weiland was expected to go at least four innings this one, but three walks and a HBP helped drive his pitch count up. It was his first rough outing of the spring, as he had pitched eight scoreless innings previously. He's still very much in the running for the opening in Houston's rotation.
