Tigers acquired OF Francisco Martinez from the Mariners in exchange for cash or a player to the named later.
Martinez was sent from the Tigers to the Mariners in the Doug Fister deal but flopped in the Seattle organization, batting just .206/.242/.254 with 43 strikeouts in 136 plate appearances this season at Double-A Jackson. He's just 22, so his original organization is hoping he'll right the ship with a change of scenery. Sun, Jun 2, 2013 11:03:00 AM

Mariners designated OF Francisco Martinez for assignment.

Martinez was batting just .206/.242/.254 with 43 strikeouts in 136 plate appearances this season at Double-A Jackson, but he's only 22 years old and should draw interest from other teams. The native of Venezuela recently converted from third base to corner outfield.

Mariners recalled 3B Francisco Martinez from Double-A Jackson.

Martinez had a rough go at it Jackson this year, batting an ugly .227/.315/.295. He obviously needs plenty more seasoning.

Marinerts optioned 3B Francisco Martinez to Triple-A Tacoma.

Martinez batted .289/.321/.426 with 10 home runs, 69 RBI and a .746 OPS over 509 plate appearances at the Double-A level last season. The 21-year-old needs to work on his plate discipline before he's ready for a taste of the big leagues.

Mariners purchased the contract of 3B Francisco Martinez from Double-A Jackson.

The move protects him from December's Rule 5 Draft. Martinez, a 21-year-old third baseman, was acquired from the Tigers in July as part of the Doug Fister deal. He batted .289/.321/.426 with 10 home runs, 69 RBI and a .746 OPS over 509 plate appearances at the Double-A level this season. While his plate discipline needs improvement, he has held his own offensively against older competition.

Mariners acquired 3B Francisco Martinez from the Tigers in the Doug Fister deal.

Martinez, 20, was ranked by Baseball America coming into the season as the Tigers' fourth-best prospect, but he was blocked by Nick Castellanos and thus was viewed by Detroit as expendable. He hasn't been terribly productive in the minors to this point and sports a .279/.316/.402 batting line with seven homers this season for Double-A Erie. He's young for the Eastern League, though, and profiles as a solid regular if he can reach his potential.
