Leonys Martin hit his first home run of the season Sunday against the Mariners.
The Rangers went off on Aaron Harang, with Martin, Nelson Cruz, Adrian Beltre, and Mitch Moreland all hitting home runs. Martin added a triple in the fifth inning to finish 2-for-4 on the night. He should continue to get the majority of playing time in a platoon role with Craig Gentry. Apr 21 - 6:47 PM

Leonys Martin will start in center field Wednesday against the Astros.

Craig Gentry started in center on Tuesday against Lucas Harrell, but Martin is back in there with Philip Humber going for Houston. The Cuban outfielder should get the majority of the playing time with this arrangement and is worth owning in deeper mixed leagues which allow daily lineup changes.

Rangers manager Ron Washington said Saturday that Leonys Martin will have a green light on the basepaths this season.

Martin stole 10 bases in 55 games last year at Triple-A Round Rock. He has five steals in 25 games this spring in the Cactus League. "We told him at the beginning of spring training that we were turning him loose," Washington said. "We’re going to stay aggressive. Some nights, it’s going to turn us off the field. Some nights, it’s going to run us into some big innings."

Leonys Martin went 2-for-3 with an RBI single and two stolen bases in a 5-4 win over the Padres on Friday.

Martin has faded a bit after getting off to a hot start this spring, but he still figures to start in center field against most right-handed starters. Craig Gentry should get most of the playing time against southpaws. Even with the platoon arrangement, Martin has a chance to be relevant in deeper mixed fantasy leagues.

Leonys Martin singled, walked and scored a pair of runs Thursday against the Athletics.

Martin has filled up the statsheet nicely this spring, batting .400 with two doubles, two triples, two stolen bases, seven RBI and 11 runs. He'll be the Rangers' regular in center field against righties and could offer some nice fantasy production.
Mar 14 - 6:34 PM

Leonys Martin (hamstring) is back in Thursday's lineup.

Martin was scratched from Wednesday's lineup with a tight left hamstring, but it was never a major concern. The 25-year-old is hitting .381 (8-for-21) with two doubles, two RBI and two stolen bases so far this spring and appears to be the favorite for the starting center fielder job.
Mar 7 - 12:36 PM

Leonys Martin was scratched from the Rangers' lineup on Wednesday because of a tight left hamstring.

The Rangers are labeling Martin as "day-to-day" for now. Mike Olt will get his first start of the spring in right field.

Rangers manager Ron Washington indicated Leonys Martin could be used as the everyday center fielder.

The Rangers were expected to use a platoon going into the season, but Martin is a strong candidate to win the job outright. "I'm getting him in against everyone and he isn't showing any sign of giving in to left-handers," Washington said Wednesday. "If this continues, and we feel like he can handle lefties as well as righties, which he has always handled in his career, it's a possibility."

Leonys Martin went 2-for-3 with a run scored in a loss to the Rockies on Monday.

Martin is off to a good start in his quest to secure the starting center field job. He's 5-for-9 (.556) so far and has back-to-back two-hit games under his belt. The Cuban defector will be worth a look in deeper mixed fantasy leagues if the gets the opportunity.

According to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan, the Rangers' high regard for Leonys Martin is the main reason why they didn't pursue a free-agent outfielder.

Sullivan's opinion isn't breaking news, but part of a growing consensus around the league. The Rangers are giving Martin every opportunity to be their Opening Day center fielder, and he faces little competition in the way of Craig Gentry and Julio Borbon. In his limited time in the majors last season, Martin batted just .184/.262/.395 in 17 games, but the 24-year-old has excelled at the top levels of the minors, and is a worthy late-round pick in mixed fantasy leagues.

Rangers optioned OF Leonys Martin to Triple-A Round Rock.

Martin was added to the roster on Friday after Ryan Dempster left the team for personal reasons, but he'll head back down to the minors now that the veteran right-hander is back. Look for the 24-year-old outfielder to return when rosters expand in September.

Rangers optioned OF Leonys Marin to Triple-A Round Rock.

Martin gets the boot to clear a 25-man roster spot for the return of Mitch Moreland. The 24-year-old Cuban outfielder is batting .189/.250/.405 this season in MLB.

Leonys Martin tripled, doubled and drove in three runs as the Rangers topped the Rockies 4-2 on Sunday.

Martin has three hits in three starts since being called up, all of them going for extra bases. Power is the question mark with him, but he's looking good so far, and it appears he might get most of the starts against right-handers for the next couple of weeks. Don't leave him unowned in AL-only leagues.
