Leonys Martin went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two walks versus the Reds on Tuesday.
Someone is going to want to grab Martin eventually. He's not as rangy in center as he once was, but he's hitting .266/.337/.464 in 237 at-bats and he's making just $1.75 million. He'd sure seem to be a nicer stopgap for the Indians than Rajai Davis. Jun 19 - 10:52 PM

Leonys Martin went 1-for-4 with a homer in a loss to the Indians on Sunday.

Martin was the only run-producer for Detroit's offense against Corey Kluber on Sunday. The homer gives the Tigers leadoff hitter nine on the season, with this one coming off of Kluber in the sixth inning. He also had an RBI groundout in the third to score John Hicks. This is a volatile profile, but Martin now has his line at .262/.329/.478 to go along with the nine homers and 24 RBI over 54 games.

Leonys Martin had another nice night at the dish in Friday's loss to the Indians, going 2-for-4 with a double.

Martin doubled to lead off the game against Trevor Bauer, then came in to score the club's only run on a double by Nicholas Castellanos. He also singled and stole a base in the contest. Martin has become mixed-league relevant with his strong play this season, slashing .264/.330/.473 with eight homers, 37 runs scored, 22 RBI and three swipes.
Jun 8 - 9:57 PM

Leonys Martin went 2-for-4 with a triple and a two-run home run to help the Tigers top the Red Sox 7-2 on Thursday.

Martin's two-run shot in the first inning capped a five-run outburst for the Tigers against Sox rookie Jalen Beeks. Martin later tripled, his third triple of the season. The 30-year-old has eight homers -- his second-highest homer total of his career, through just 51 games -- with 22 RBI and 36 runs scored to date.
Jun 8 - 12:28 AM

Leonys Martin went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored in the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Yankees.

After going 0-for-4 as the leadoff man in the day game, Martin hit sixth in the nightcap, even though the Tigers were facing another righty. It wouldn't seem to be much of a matter of production, as he entered the day 6-for-20 with two homers, two doubles and four walks in his previous five games. He probably should lead off against righties for the most part.
Jun 4 - 11:37 PM

Leonys Martin homered for the seventh time this season in a loss to the Blue Jays on Sunday.

Martin also walked twice, and he scored two runs on the afternoon. The homer came off of Aaron Sanchez in the sixth inning, and it was the only run Sanchez allowed in his six innings. Martin was red-hot earlier on the year, but the results have started to drop to what we've seen from the outfielder for most of his career with a .257/.325/.453 line over 46 games.
Jun 3 - 4:25 PM

Leonys Martin is not in the Tigers' starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Blue Jays.

Martin has been battling a hamstring injury in recent weeks that the team is approaching with caution. Niko Goodrum is starting in left field while JaCoby Jones slides over to cover center.
Jun 2 - 1:03 PM

Leonys Martin (hamstring) is back in the Tigers' lineup Friday.

Jun 1 - 4:56 PM

Leonys Martin (hamstring) expects to return to the Tigers' lineup on Friday.

He received a cortisone shot and also had fluid drained from his injured hamstring on Thursday. Martin owns a .256 average with six homers in 172 at-bats this season.
May 31 - 5:57 PM

Leonys Martin is out of the Tigers' starting lineup on Thursday due to a left hamstring issue.

Jason Beck of reports that Martin is having fluid drained from the hamstring, though this apparently isn't going to be another DL situation. The 30-year-old center fielder missed 10 games earlier this month with a left hamstring strain. JaCoby Jones is in center and batting sixth Thursday against the Angels and left-hander Andrew Heaney.
May 31 - 11:09 AM

Leonys Martin went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored against the Angels on Wednesday.

He singled twice and walked twice to reach base four times in the win. The solid day boosts his line to .256/.319/.436 with six homers, 18 RBI and 29 runs scored on the year. He has stolen as many as 36 bases in one season but today's bag was just his second of the campaign, and he's been caught three times.
May 31 - 12:23 AM

Leonys Martin launched a solo homer Monday against the Angels.

It was his only hit in five at-bats. Martin has scuffled since coming off the disabled list. Including Monday’s game, he’s batting just .105 (4-for-38) over 10 games. The hope was that he would provide some value on the basepaths as Detroit’s leadoff man this season, but he’s just 1-for-4 in stolen base attempts.
May 28 - 4:35 PM

Leonys Martin is not in the Tigers' starting lineup for Saturday's showdown against the White Sox.

He'll get a day to rest with left-hander Hector Santiago on the hill for the White Sox. JaCoby Jones will slide over and cover center field and bat in the leadoff spot for the Tigers while Victor Reyes draws a start in left field. Daily Slant: With Martin out today, JaCoby Jones moving to the leadoff spot makes for a great value play in all formats. With some pop and speed, Jones should easily hit value and has big upside on a Tigers lineup with a 4.9 run total.
May 26 - 12:55 PM

Leonys Martin had a nice night at the dish in a come-from-behind victory over the White Sox on Friday, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Martin also had an RBI single in the eighth inning, driving in the first of three runs in the frame that would propel the Tigers to victory. He has settled in nicely as the Tigers' leadoff hitter this season, slashing .260/.321/.435 with five homers and 16 RBI. The one place that he was supposed to be a major contributor though, stolen bases, he has struggled to get anything going. Martin has successfully stolen just one base in four attempts on the season.
May 25 - 10:22 PM

Tigers activated OF Leonys Martin from the 10-day disabled list.

He'll jump right back into the leadoff spot in the Tigers' lineup for Friday's game against the Mariners. Before the hamstring injury put him on the shelf, Martin was slashing .294/.355/.508 with five homers, 15 RBI and a stolen base.
