Leonys Martin went 0-for-4 and struck out twice in Monday's loss to the Astros.
The Mariners should be sitting either Martin or Jarrod Dyson against left-handers in favor of Guillermo Heredia, but they had both in there against Dallas Keuchel tonight, perhaps to give them the honor of starting on Opening Day. Most likely, Dyson will do more sitting versus southpaws than Martin. Both would be platoon players on an ideal roster, but there's no way the Mariners can make that work while carrying 13 pitchers. Leonys Martin contributed three hits Wednesday in the Mariners' Cactus League win over the Indians.

Not a bad day at the office for No. 12. Martin's monster afternoon included a first-inning single, a double in the third and another two-bagger in the sixth. Martin had been hitless in five spring at-bats prior to Wednesday's explosion. One of the only outfielders left after Seattle's offseason remodeling, Martin is penciled in as the Mariners' everyday center fielder.

Leonys Martin arrived in Mariners' camp on Wednesday.

Martin was late to camp because he testified Tuesday in a human-trafficking trial in Miami. It shouldn't take him long to get up to speed. The 28-year-old batted .247/.306/.378 with 15 homers, 47 RBI, and 24 steals over 143 games last season. He'll function as Seattle's primary center fielder again in 2017.

Mariners manager Scott Servais said Tuesday that Leonys Martin could arrive in camp on Wednesday.

Martin is currently testifying in Miami regarding a Cuban human-trafficking case. Previous reports indicated that his testimony could stretch into Wednesday, but either way, it shouldn't be long before he officially reports.

Leonys Martin will be a late arrival at Mariners spring training.

Manager Scott Servais said Martin might not arrive until Tuesday or Wednesday. Martin is reportedly healthy and is back in Miami dealing with a personal matter. The 28-year-old blasted a career-high 15 homers in 2016.

Mariners and OF Leonys Martin avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $4.85 million contract.

It's a nice salary bump for Martin in his second year of arbitration eligibility. He batted .247/.306/.378 with 15 homers and 24 steals last season and will function as the M's regular center fielder again in 2017.

Leonys Martin went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Martin and the Mariner offense was mostly helpless outside of a two-run triple by Robinson Cano, as they ultimately fell by a 10-2 score. With the hit-less, three-strikeout showing under his belt, the 28-year-old outfielder is hitting .247/.306/.389 with 15 homers, 44 RBI and 19 steals over 478 at-bats.

Leonys Martin finished 4-for-4 with three doubles and three runs scored Monday against the Angels.

A rare outburst from Martin of late. Martin has just five homers since the beginning of June after hitting nine the first two months. Factoring in his defense, he's still been a solid regular for the Mariners.

Leonys Martin is not in the Mariners starting lineup on Saturday against the Athletics.

It's nothing more than a routine day off for the dynamic center fielder. Ben Gamel will start in his place and bat eighth against Kendall Graveman and the Athletics on Saturday.

Leonys Martin had a single, a sac fly, a stolen base and two outfield assists Wednesday as the Mariners edged the Angels 4-3.

The Angels made a couple too many outs on the basepaths in this one. Martin has been awfully quiet offensively of late; he had 10 homers the first two months before going on the DL, but he's hit just four in 58 games since. He's unlikely to go back to being of much use in mixed leagues, but the Mariners will keep him in the lineup for his defense.

Leonys Martin delivered a two-run double off Aroldis Chapman in the eighth inning on Saturday, propelling the Mariners to a 4-1 victory over the Cubs.

The Mariners entered the eighth inning trailing 1-0, but started a rally with a pair of leadoff walks against Jake Arrieta. Hector Rondon was summoned to face a pair of right-handers, retiring them both before Chapman came on to face Martin. Martin crushed a 1-1 offering to center field, plating the tying and go-ahead run. He then deftly swiped third base and scampered home on a wild pitch providing valuable insurance. Martin finished the day 2-for-4 and is now hitting .250/.324/.427 with 13 homers, 32 RBI and 11 stolen bases.

Leonys Martin secured the Mariners' only hit in Sunday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Martin's little single was all the M's could manage against J.A. Happ and company. While he has had a few big moments this month -- including a two-homer performance against the White Sox on July 20 -- Martin has struggled for the most part since the calendar flipped. He entered Sunday's contest holding a soggy .188/.316/.359 triple-slash over 64 July at-bats.

Leonys Martin launched a walk-off solo home run to end Wednesday's 6-5, 11-inning win over the White Sox, his second homer of the game.

Martin's first shot was of the two-run variety. He socked it off White Sox starter Miguel Gonzalez in the second inning. The 28-year-old outfielder waited until the bottom of the 11th to crack homer No. 2, this one coming off reliever Dan Jennings. Unfortunately for Jennings, it would finish off the game. For the season, Martin is slashing .245/.324/.427 with 13 homers, 29 RBI and 10 steals over 274 at-bats.

Leonys Martin went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and run scored in Saturday's win over the Astros.

Martin led off the sixth inning with a triple, his second of the season, and came around to score one batter later on a Robinson Cano RBI single. A hamstring injury in late May derailed what was looking to be a breakout year for the 28-year-old, and he's struggled since returning in mid-June. Martin is batting .249/.322/.418 with 11 home runs, 26 RBI, 36 runs scored and nine steals overall.

Leonys Martin went hitless from the leadoff spot Friday and is 4-for-30 with 12 strikeouts to begin July.

Martin has fanned 18 times in his last 10 starts, and he's not looking like much of a leadoff hitter of late. If his slump continues, he could find himself returned to the bottom of the Mariners order.
