Leonys Martin hit safely in both of his at-bats in Wednesday's rain-shortened game against the Yankees, going 2-for-2 with a triple and a run scored.
Martin singled and scored in the third, then tripled and was stranded with one out in the fifth, when the game was called. Martin owns a substandard .273/.328/.382 slash line with five home runs, 28 RBI, and 18 stolen bases. Jul 23 - 10:48 PM

Leonys Martin finished 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Astros.

Martin hit a solo home run in the second inning and added an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Martin also hit his fourth triple of the season in the game, boosting his average up to .274 with a .725 OPS. Martin should continue to start almost every day going forward, and with an injury-riddled Rangers squad the 26-year-old will likely continue to get more RBI opportunities as he hits near the middle of the lineup as well.
Jul 9 - 12:57 AM

Leonys Martin had a nice night at the plate in Sunday's loss to the Angels, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored.

He was also caught stealing for the seventh time on the season. Hitting atop the Rangers lineup, Martin raised his season slash to .273/.328/.370 with the strong effort.
Jun 22 - 11:07 PM

Leonys Martin singled in Luis Sardinas in the top of the ninth Saturday to lead the Rangers past the Mariners 4-3.

It wasn't one of Martin's better swings, but it worked, as he snuck a ball down the third base line to plate the run against Fernando Rodney. Martin, who was batting leadoff for the third time this season, also had an earlier single and a walk in the game. He was 2-for-3 stealing bases. If he can hang on to the leadoff spot, he should be quite a bit more valuable in mixed leagues.
Jun 15 - 1:56 AM

Leonys Martin's solo home run off Tanner Roark in the seventh inning was all the offense the Rangers would need in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Nationals.

Martin owns a respectable .277/.325/.375 slash line this year but Sunday's homer was just his third. He does have 11 stolen bases, however, and still makes for an excellent fantasy play because of that speed.
Jun 1 - 6:11 PM

Leonys Martin doubled his season doubles total from two to four and scored three times Thursday against the Twins.

Martin entered the day with exactly two doubles, two triples and two homers in 170 at-bats, but that symmetry is gone now, likely never to return. More power would be nice, given that he entered the game with a Juan Pierre-like .071 isolated slugging percentage (.347 slugging percentage - .276 batting average).
May 29 - 5:10 PM

Leonys Martin went 2-for-4 at the plate after subbing in for an injured Dan Robertson in Thursday's game.

Martin missed his third straight start due to a neck injury, but obviously he was feeling well enough to play. He should be in the lineup Friday.
May 23 - 3:51 AM

Leonys Martin (neck) is out of the Rangers' starting lineup again on Thursday against the Tigers.

Martin has been absent from the Texas batting order for three straight games because of minor neck soreness. He is available off the bench Thursday afternoon in Detroit and should return to the lineup on Friday night.
May 22 - 10:52 AM

Leonys Martin (neck) was used as a defensive replacement in the Rangers' win over the Mariners on Wednesday.

Martin was held out of the starting lineup for a second straight day because of neck soreness that he blamed on a bad hotel pillow. It's obviously not too serious.
May 22 - 8:44 AM

Leonys Martin (neck) remained out of the Rangers' lineup Wednesday.

He's now missed two straight games with a neck ailment. The Rangers are still considering Martin day-to-day for the time being. Michael Choice is starting in center field Wednesday.
May 21 - 11:23 AM

Leonys Martin was scratched from the Rangers' lineup Tuesday versus the Mariners due to neck pain.

It's not believed to be a major issue. Martin has two homers and nine steals in 42 games this season.
May 20 - 4:57 PM

Leonys Martin went 2-for-4 and hit a two-run homer Friday against the Red Sox.

Martin didn't get a real look in the two hole during Elvis Andrus's brief demotion -- largely because the Rangers are already lefty heavy at the top of the order -- but he doesn't need to hit second in order to be of use in mixed leagues; he's still pretty good batting eighth. The homer tonight off Chris Capuano was his second ever against a left-hander.
May 9 - 11:42 PM

Leonys Martin went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the Rangers' 6-3 victory over the Mariners on Saturday.

It's kind of disappointing that Rangers manager Ron Washington won't use Martin as a leadoff hitter even with Shin-Soo Choo out, especially considering that it was expected to be Martin's role prior to the Choo signing. Martin has performed like a leadoff hitter, with a .312 average and six steals in 23 games this season. However, he's scored a modest nine runs while mostly hitting eighth in the lineup.
Apr 27 - 12:54 AM

Leonys Martin homered, tripled and drove home four runs, leading the Rangers in a 12-0 rout of the White Sox in Texas on Friday.

Martin wound up 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored in the game, finishing a double short of the cycle. He's doing everything in his power to show that he deserves to be hitting higher in the lineup, slashing .315/.373/.444 with a homer, nine RBI and two steals on the season.
Apr 18 - 11:29 PM

Leonys Martin went 2-for-4 with a triple and helped the Rangers walk off in the ninth inning with an RBI single to left-center in Wednesday's win against the Mariners.

Martin tripled and scored in the eighth inning to cut the Rangers' deficit to 2-1, then fueled the Fernando Rodney tire fire in the next inning, driving an outside fastball to the opposite field. Martin has been slow to get it going thus far, but the Rangers are hopeful Wednesday's performance spurs him.
