Petricka is currently rehabbing from nerve transposition surgery on his right elbow. He is expected to resume throwing in time for spring training -- if he gets invited to one. He registered a 7.01 ERA in 25 2/3 innings with the White Sox this year. He has a 3.84 ERA and 16 saves in 181 career games. Dec 1 - 9:45 PM

Date:

Jake Petricka had a nerve transposition in his right elbow on Friday.

The operation was performed by Dr. James Andrews. Petricka will begin a throwing program in 3-4 months, so he should have a relatively normal spring training if all goes well during his rehab.
Oct 20 - 4:50 PM

White Sox placed RHP Jake Petricka on the 10-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.

Yet another elbow injury for Petricka, who's been limited to a total of 33 2/3 innings over the last two seasons. If this is hit for him in 2017, the 29-year-old right-hander will finish with a 7.01 ERA. He's a non-tender candidate this winter.
Sep 7 - 2:06 PM

Aaron Bummer and Jake Petricka combined to give up three runs in the ninth in a loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Juan Minaya, who threw 23 pitches Tuesday, faced just two hitters while finishing the eighth tonight. Gregory Infante then got the first out with a 4-2 lead in the ninth, only to be replaced by Aaron Bummer. A single followed, and in came Petricka, who entered the night with an 8.05 ERA and a 1.895 WHIP in 19 innings. The end result was unsurprising; Petricka retired none of the three batters he faced as the Dodgers came back to win. We can't imagine Petricka will see a ninth-inning lead again anytime soon. Minaya really seems like the best choice for Renteria.
Aug 17 - 2:06 AM

White Sox activated RHP Jake Petricka from the 10-day disabled list.

Petricka returns to the White Sox bullpen after throwing three scoreless rehab innings across two appearances at Triple-A Charlotte. The right-hander might see some save opportunities down the stretch in Chicago given that David Robertson, Tommy Kahnle, Anthony Swarzak have all been traded. Tyler Clippard could be flipped at some point too.
Jul 26 - 11:52 AM

Jake Petricka (elbow) threw two scoreless innings at Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.

Petricka could take over the roster spot left vacant by Tuesday's trade that sent Anthony Swarzak to the Brewers and he might even be in the running for saves down the stretch in the patchwork White Sox bullpen -- if his health cooperates. Petricka has been out since June 29 with an elbow strain and he's logged just 18 2/3 total innings over the last two seasons.
Jul 26 - 11:46 AM

White Sox placed RHP Jake Petricka on the 10-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.

Petricka was obliterated for five earned runs in one inning of relief Wednesday night against the Yankees and is now probably looking at a lengthy absence. There's no official timetable yet. Juan Minaya has been recalled from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding 25-man roster move.
Jun 29 - 1:06 PM

Jake Petricka was ejected following the top of the sixth inning in Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Hunter Wendelstedt was not making any friends in Chicago in this one. Manager Rick Renteria had already gotten tossed earlier in the sixth. Petricka followed suit at the close of the inning, but not before he had given up five runs -- three of those coming home on a guided missile of a long ball by Aaron Judge.
Jun 28 - 10:34 PM

White Sox activated RHP Jake Petricka from the 10-day disabled list.

Petricka has been out since Opening Day with a strained lat but made it through a rehab assignment with no issues. He figures to be eased back into high-leverage situations but it shouldn't be too long before he's trusted in a setup role again.
Jun 9 - 1:21 PM

Jake Petricka (lat) worked a scoreless inning in his first minor league rehab game with Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.

Petricka suffered a strained right lat on Opening Day and hasn't pitched since. He's finally making tangible strides toward a recovery and should be ready to rejoin the White Sox bullpen by the end of next week.
Jun 3 - 9:50 AM

Jake Petricka (lat) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte this coming weekend.

Petricka was sidelined by a strained right lat following his first appearance of the 2017 campaign in the season-opener. He threw live batting practice in extended spring training last week and with his minor league assignment rapidly approaching, he figures to rejoin the team at some point in early June.
May 31 - 5:14 PM

Jake Petricka (lat) threw live batting practice at extended spring training Monday.

It's the first time he's faced hitters since he went down with a strained lat in his first appearance of the season. Petricka is starting a throwing program over from scratch, so it will be a while.
May 22 - 6:49 PM

Jake Petricka (lat) still hasn't resumed throwing.

Petricka landed on the disabled list April 5 after straining his right lat muscle in Chicago's season opener. The right-handed reliever probably won't be back to full health until sometime in early-to-mid May.
Apr 18 - 5:26 PM

White Sox placed RHP Jake Petricka on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 5, with a strained right lat.

Petricka tossed a scoreless inning in Tuesday's opener but evidently must have tweaked his lat in the process. It's unclear how long he'll be sidelined, but it's an injury that typically requires longer than a minimum DL stay. Tommy Kahnle has taken Petricka's spot in the bullpen.
Apr 6 - 10:40 AM

Jake Petricka (hand) will play catch on Tuesday.

He was drilled by a comebacker on Monday but X-rays on his right hand came back negative. Petricka is still on track to pitch against the Brewers this weekend. The right-hander will be fine for Opening Day.
