White Sox activated RHP Jake Petricka from the 15-day disabled list.

Petricka missed the first two weeks of the season with right forearm soreness. He posted a 2.96 ERA in 73 innings last year for the White Sox and should quickly move into a setup role ahead of closer David Robertson.

Jake Petricka (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment on Thursday.

He'll appear in games on Thursday and Saturday before the White Sox determine the next step. In other words, Petricka will be activated from the disabled list early next week if all goes well. He's been out since late in spring training with right forearm soreness.

Jake Petricka (forearm) could rejoin the White Sox' bullpen as soon as this weekend.

Petricka got through a 25-pitch simulated game on Monday with no issues. He's expected to be activated no later than early next week, but this weekend remains a possibility for the setup man. "We’re still hoping he can come back at some point over the weekend," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said.

Jake Petricka (forearm) is scheduled to throw a 25-pitch simulated game on Monday.

Petricka felt some right forearm soreness near the end of March and has been working his way back from the injury. The simulated game is a good step forward for his recovery. Barring setback, a return in mid-to-late April seems likely, at which point he'll take over setup duties for the White Sox.

Jake Petricka (forearm) threw a bullpen session Tuesday.

Petricka is on the 15-day disabled list due to a right forearm injury, but the reliever will likely require only the minimum stay on the DL. He's due back by mid-April.

White Sox placed RHP Jake Petricka on the 15-day disabled list with a right forearm injury.

Petricka came down with arm soreness in late March, but tests have ruled out structural damage and he's making steady progress in side sessions. The right-hander should be on Chicago's active roster and entrenched in a setup role by late April.

Jake Petricka (forearm) played catch Wednesday.

Petricka said afterward that he felt like he was "on the right track." He'll open the season on the disabled list, but an MRI on his sore forearm showed no structural damage. The earliest Petricka might be available for the White Sox would be April 11. Once healthy, he'll serve as set-up man to new closer David Robertson. Zach Putnam and Javy Guerra will share 8th inning duties until Petricka has recovered.

Jake Petricka will open the season on the disabled list.

The stint can be backdated so that Petricka is available for activation on April 11. And the White Sox feel he should be ready by then. Petricka came down with some forearm soreness late last week, but an MRI was taken and showed no structural damage. He'll work in a setup role this year behind White Sox closer David Robertson.

Jake Petricka is still feeling soreness in his right forearm.

An MRI last week revealed no structural damage, but Petricka resumed throwing Saturday and it apparently didn't go well. With Opening Day just a week away, it's looking like he could be headed for the disabled list. Petricka is coming off a fine season, having put up a 2.96 ERA while recording 14 saves.

Jake Petricka (forearm) will resume throwing on Saturday after an MRI came back clean.

Petricka is dealing with some forearm soreness (the same ailment White Sox closer David Robertson has), but it appears to be of no concern. Barring a setback, the setup man will be fine for Opening Day. Robertson is expected to be OK, as well.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Thursday that Jake Petricka is dealing with some soreness in his throwing arm.

The skipper indicated that it's merely "normal spring training soreness" and that he expects the setup man to be fine. "We have a few guys that are doing that right now," Ventura said. "When they are ready to go, they are ready to go. I don't think it's anything that's going to make them miss the start of the season." Closer David Robertson is also nursing minor soreness in his forearm, so it's possible ninth-inning duties could fall to Zach Putnam should Robertson and Petricka recover more slowly than expected. At this point, though, the White Sox don't seem to be worried.

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Wednesday that the club doesn't "feel the need to go out and get a quote-unquote proven closer" this offseason.

The club used a committee in the ninth inning for much of the season before finally settling on Jake Petricka, who converted 14 of 18 save chances while posting a 2.96 ERA. While the White Sox might not get any marquee relievers, it sounds like they'll acquire at least one arm or two to challenge Petricka for the closer job. "He certainly did an admirable job in the role, and if it came down that the mix we had indicated he should be back there, we have confidence in him doing that," Hahn said. "We certainly want to have multiple upgrades, and if some of those upgrades give us viable back-end options as well, that’s great."

Jake Petricka left Saturday's game against the Royals with a stiff lower back.

Petricka pitched a third of an inning and gave up a walk before exiting the game. Javy Guerra entered and picked up his first save of the season. Petricka will likely be unavailable for Sunday's finale.

Jake Petricka got four outs against the Tigers for his 14th save Monday.

Petricka came in with two outs in the eighth and struck out J.D. Martinez to strand Victor Martinez on base. He then pitched a perfect ninth. Petricka is 14-for-16 in his ninth-inning save chances since becoming the White Sox's primary closer (he had one other cheap blown save in there after allowed an inherited runner to score in the eighth). He's not going to be assured of keeping the job next year, but he'll be the top choice among the incumbents.
