Yankees released RHP Cody Eppley.

Eppley was removed from the 40-man roster a month ago, and now he's out of the organization after posting an 8.53 ERA at Triple-A. He was pretty decent for the Yanks last season and shouldn't have trouble catching on elsewhere.

Eppley was designated for assignment earlier this week and cleared waivers. He's appeared in two games with the Yankees this season and will continue to serve as bullpen depth in the minors.

Eppley made the Yankees' Opening Day roster as a middle reliever and should be back up at some point this season. Phil Hughes was officially activated from the 15-day disabled list in a corresponding move.

Cody Eppley gave up hits to all five Tigers he faced and was charged with five runs Saturday.

Eppley entered camp with a good shot at retaining his bullpen spot, but he's turned into a question mark now after giving up 12 runs -- nine earned -- in 5 2/3 innings. Shawn Kelley might replace him in the pen.

He'll take the roster spot of Eduardo Nunez. The Yankees are going with 12 pitchers and 13 position players for their ALCS matchup against the Tigers.

He's posted a 4.76 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over five appearances covering a couple stints with the big club. Eppley will likely get another shot later this season.

The move clears a spot on the 25-man roster for D.J. Mitchell. Eppley, 26, was claimed off waivers from the Rangers earlier this month and posted a 1.69 ERA in four appearances with the Yankees. Mitchell, of course, is expected to be used in long relief.

The move opens up a spot on the Rangers' 40-man roster. Eppley posted an 8.00 ERA over 10 appearances with the big club last season and had a 3.90 ERA and 55/34 K/BB ratio over 55 1/3 innings with Triple-A Round Rock. There's a chance he makes it through waivers unclaimed.

Eppley was impressive upon his initial call-up from the minors, but has struggled of late. The 25-year-old right-hander heads back to Triple-A with an 8.00 ERA and 6/5 K/BB ratio over nine innings with the big club. He'll be back at some point.
