Eppley had some nice moments last year with the Yanks, but he struggled early on this season before being sent down. It's possible the 27-year-old could draw some interest on waivers.

Yankees optioned RHP Cody Eppley to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Eppley made the Yankees' Opening Day roster as a middle reliever and should be back up at some point this season. Phil Hughes was officially activated from the 15-day disabled list in a corresponding move.

Cody Eppley gave up hits to all five Tigers he faced and was charged with five runs Saturday.

Eppley entered camp with a good shot at retaining his bullpen spot, but he's turned into a question mark now after giving up 12 runs -- nine earned -- in 5 2/3 innings. Shawn Kelley might replace him in the pen.

The move clears a spot on the 25-man roster for D.J. Mitchell. Eppley, 26, was claimed off waivers from the Rangers earlier this month and posted a 1.69 ERA in four appearances with the Yankees. Mitchell, of course, is expected to be used in long relief.

The move opens up a spot on the Rangers' 40-man roster. Eppley posted an 8.00 ERA over 10 appearances with the big club last season and had a 3.90 ERA and 55/34 K/BB ratio over 55 1/3 innings with Triple-A Round Rock. There's a chance he makes it through waivers unclaimed.

Eppley, 25, has fanned nine batters in eight-plus scoreless innings this year at the Triple-A level. He may be able to secure a permanent spot in the big league bullpen if he can carry over some of that momentum.

Teixeira has been taking batting practice in the cages but still needs to take live BP on the field. "I would say the next step would be some live BP; we're not there yet," manager Joe Girardi said. It's believed to be minor, but the Yankees don't want to take any chances with the 40-year-old southpaw. Vidal Nuno is slated to replace him on the active roster and will likely get a start or two. Yankees manager Joe Girardi didn't disclose any plans about a rehab assignment, but he expects Pineda to pitch in the majors at some point this summer. "We’ll continue to build him up," said Girardi. "Starters, as you know, take a lot longer than relievers because you have to get them to 100 pitches.
