Christian Villanueva went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in an 8-5 victory over the Pirates on Sunday.
The homer gives Villanueva 12 on the season, and this one came off of Trevor Williams in the fourth inning to give the Padres a 2-1 lead. The hits haven't fallen like they were early in the season, but the 26-year-old infielder has still posted an impressive line of .250/.322/.568 along with the dozen homers and 26 RBI over 39 games. It also makes back-to-back games with homers on the season, so another streak could be coming. May 20 - 5:07 PM

Christian Villanueva went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in a win over the Pirates on Saturday.

He laced a double to left field that plated a run in the first inning, then jacked a solo bomb off reliever Tyler Glasnow in the eighth. The rookie third baseman started the season on an epic hot streak, then fell into a deep slump and now seems to be back on top. He has a .242 batting average with 11 home runs and 24 RBI on the season.
May 19 - 10:10 PM

Christian Villanueva finished 2-for-3 with a two-run homer Tuesday in the Padres' win over the Rockies.

Villanueva was stuck in a deep offensive rut entering this week, but he singled in Monday's series opener versus Colorado and crushed a no-doubter in the bottom of the sixth inning Tuesday. The 26-year-old third baseman has a cool .841 OPS with 10 home runs in 36 games this season.
May 15 - 6:41 PM

Christian Villanueva is hitless in his last 36 at-bats.

It's the longest hitless streak ever for a Padres rookie. The 26-year-old got off to a monster start this season, but his batting average has tumbled from .317 to .226 during the slide. If that wasn't bad enough, he banged up his knee crashing into the netting while trying to catch a fly ball on Saturday. Fortunately it's nothing serious, but he was held out of Sunday's lineup with Cory Spangenberg making the start at third base.
May 14 - 10:12 AM

Christian Villanueva went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's game at San Francisco.

Villanueva smashed his ninth homer of the season off of Andrew Suarez in the top of the first inning to get his team off on the right foot. He is just one homer off the major league lead, and he is hitting .317 with 23 RBI and an impressive 1.112 OPS. He has belted eight of his nine homers against left-handed pitching, and he'll face another southpaw on Wednesday against Derek Holland.
May 2 - 4:43 AM

Christian Villanueva went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, a walk and two runs scored in Saturday's 12-2 rout of the Mets.

Villanueva is making a huge impact in San Diego, slashing .348/.438/.768 with eight homers and 18 RBI across 69 at-bats in 21 games. He has now hit safely in 11 consecutive games, going 17-for-36 (.472) with 11 runs scored, three doubles, five home runs and 12 RBI to raise his average from .212 to .348 just since April 12.
Apr 29 - 2:45 AM

Christian Villanueva (hamstring) returned to the Padres' lineup on Friday.

Villanueva has been sidelined since Sunday due to a sore hamstring, but he's back in the third slot in the lineup and ready to rock against Jacob DeGrom and the Mets on Friday. The 26-year-old is off to a terrific start, hitting .355/.444/.774 with seven homers and 16 RBI in his first 19 games.
Apr 27 - 7:11 PM

Christian Villanueva (hamstring) remains out of the Padres' starting lineup on Wednesday.

Villanueva has been out all week with a sore hamstring, though the expectation is that he will be ready to rock Friday after Thursday's scheduled team off-day. Chase Headley is starting at third base and batting fifth Wednesday afternoon against Rockies right-hander Jon Gray. Wil Myers is at first base and batting third with Eric Hosmer still away on family medical emergency leave.
Apr 25 - 12:29 PM

Christian Villanueva (hamstring) likely won't return to the Padres' starting lineup before Friday.

Villanueva was scratched from the Padres' lineup Monday with a sore hamstring and he's not playing Tuesday either. "We just want to make sure he gets this behind him," manager Andy Green said Tuesday evening. "Then it probably leads to the question: If we don't play him tonight, is it even smart to play him tomorrow, because we get the off-day (Thursday) as well? Probably better judgement would prevail, and we'll see him in the lineup again on Friday."
Apr 24 - 9:19 PM

Christian Villanueva (hamstring) is out of the Padres' starting lineup again on Tuesday night.

Villanueva was scratched from Monday's lineup due to a sore hamstring and will take another day of rest. Cory Spangenberg is starting at third base and batting seventh Tuesday versus Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland. Chase Headley is at first base and batting fifth with Eric Hosmer away on family medical leave.
Apr 24 - 5:42 PM

Christian Villanueva was scratched from the Padres' lineup Monday due to a sore hamstring.

Villanueva is available to pinch-hit, so it appears that the club is just being extra cautious here. Still, it's a bummer that fantasy owners will miss out on a Villanueva start at Coors Field while his bat is red-hot. Cory Spangenberg has replaced him in the lineup.
Apr 23 - 6:48 PM

Christian Villanueva went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Villanueva was the only one who could solve D'backs starter, swatting the two-run shot in the sixth inning. It's opposing pitchers who have yet to solve the 26-year-old, as Villanueva continues to be one of the best hitters in the league through the season's first few weeks. A nine-game hitting streak has his season line up to .355/.444/.744 with seven homers, 16 RBI and 13 runs scored.
Apr 22 - 9:03 PM

Christian Villanueva (hand) returned to the Padres' starting lineup on Friday.

The hard-hitting third baseman is batting cleanup against Matt Koch and the Diamondbacks. He's off to a tremendous start, slashing .340/.450/.780 with six long balls and 13 RBI in 60 plate appearances.
Apr 20 - 7:07 PM

Christian Villanueva was forced from Wednesday's game by a bruised hand.

Villanueva was hit in the fifth and departed a couple of innings later. X-rays were negative, so he's day-to-day.
Apr 19 - 2:01 AM

Christian Villanueva went 3-for-4 with a homer in a loss to the Dodgers on Monday.

Villanueva's shot gives him six on the season, and this one came off of Hyun-Jin Ryu in the second inning with a runner on. What a start to the season it's been for Villanueva; a former Cubs prospect who showed talent while a member of the Chicago organization but never quite put it together. It's too early to say that's what's happening now, but the eye test says that Villanueva has a chance.
