Jose De Paula has a shot at winning a bullpen job with the Giants.
"I don’t know a lot about him, but he’s been the talk around camp right now with his early success," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "It’s a good arm, good breaking ball. He pounds the zone on both sides. I didn’t know a lot about him coming out of San Diego, but he’s really opened up some eyes." De Paula was claimed off waivers from the Padres in November, and while he's still got some work to do, he could sneak onto the Opening Day roster if he continues his strong spring. Mar 5 - 7:11 PM

Padres purchased the contract of LHP Jose De Paula from High-A Lake Elsinore.

De Paula, 21, compiled a 5.22 ERA and 87/37 K/BB ratio over 112 innings in the California League this season. Right-handed hitters enjoyed much more success against him, so he may be looking at a career as a left-handed specialist out of the bullpen.
