Blue Jays designated RHP Cory Burns for assignment.

Burns was designated for assignment to make room for Matt West on the Jays' 40-man roster. The right-hander has been passed around like a bad penny in recent months, as the Jays are the third team to place him on waivers since June.

Blue Jays claimed RHP Cory Burns off waivers from the Rays; assigned him to Triple-A Buffalo.

He's now in his third organization in the last three months, as the Rays claimed Burns off waivers from the Rangers in July. The 26-year-old has spent all of 2014 in the minors, posting a 4.95 ERA and 58/16 K/BB ratio over 63 2/3 frames between Double- and Triple-A.

Burns was just recently optioned back to the minors on August 5 after throwing one scoreless inning for San Diego. He'll again serve in a middle relief role with the Padres, allowing Dale Thayer or Luke Gregerson to fill in as the interim closer while Huston Street (calf) is sidelined.
