Cory Burns - R - Rangers

Rangers recalled RHP Cory Burns from Triple-A Round Rock.

Burns will take the place of Alexi Ogando (biceps) on the active roster. The 25-year-old had an impressive 1.38 ERA and 18/4 K/BB ratio over 13 innings in Triple-A and will pitch in middle relief.

Rangers acquired RHP Cory Burns from the Padres for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Burns was just designated for assignment by the Padres last week. The 25-year-old right-hander had a lousy 5.50 ERA in 17 appearances at the major league level this season, but he has posted some impressive numbers in the minors. It's a worthwhile pickup by the Rangers.

The Pads needed to clear some 40-man roster space with the Rule 5 Draft coming up. Burns posted a 5.50 ERA in 17 appearances for them in 2012.

Padres recalled RHP Cory Burns from Triple-A Tucson.

Burns was just recently optioned back to the minors on August 5 after throwing one scoreless inning for San Diego. He'll again serve in a middle relief role with the Padres, allowing Dale Thayer or Luke Gregerson to fill in as the interim closer while Huston Street (calf) is sidelined.

According to the player's agent, the Padres will promote right-hander Cory Burns to the majors on Friday.

Burns, who was acquired from the Indians for outfielder Aaron Cunningham last December, has an excellent 2.63 ERA and 77/16 K/BB ratio over 65 innings of relief this season with Triple-A Tucson. The 24-year-old right-hander will likely start out in lower-leverage situations before being trusted in the late innings.

Burns, 24, posted a 2.11 ERA and 70/15 K/BB ratio over 59 2/3 innings this past season with Double-A Erie. While he has racked up 88 saves over three seasons in the minors, he projects as a set-up man in the big leagues.

Harrison underwent an operation on April 23 to repair a herniated disk in his lower back but began feeling additional discomfort this week, necessitating another procedure. According to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com, the Rangers are "operating under the assumption that Harrison will pitch again this season, but he will be out for at least three months." 	5	Nick Tepesch Sidelined Nick Tepesch has been scratched from his Wednesday start due to a blister on his right middle finger. Ross Wolf will take the mound in his place. Tepesch should be fine by his next turn in the Rangers' rotation. May 21

	7	Colby Lewis D.L. Colby Lewis (elbow) acknowledged on Monday afternoon that he's unhappy with his fastball velocity. Lewis was sitting around 85-86 mph in his rehab start Monday at Double-A Frisco and wants to be closer to 89-91 mph by the time he returns to the major leagues. The hope had been that he would be ready to rock during the first week of June, but a more realistic timetable calls for him to be activated near the middle of the month. Lewis is on his way back from major right elbow surgery. May 20
