Angels sent LHP Michael Roth outright to Double-A Arkansas.

Angels designated LHP Michael Roth for assignment.

The 24-year-old southpaw appeared in 15 games out of the bullpen for the Angels in 2013, compiling a 7.20 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 17/6 K/BB ratio over 20 innings. He shouldn't have any difficulty finding another squad willing to take a chance on him.

Michael Roth will undergo surgery to have cyst removed from his left thumb.

It's a minor procedure and won't affect his ability to start spring training on time. Roth will compete for a bullpen job during Cactus League play.

Michael Roth took a loss in his first big-league start after allowing five runs in 3 1/3 innings Wednesday against the Rangers.

Roth got through the lineup OK the first time, but he retired just one of the six Rangers he faced in the fourth. Texas ended up scoring nine times in the inning. Roth might be returned to the minors now because of the Angels' need for fresh arms.

2012 ninth-round pick Michael Roth will make his first big-league start Wednesday against the Rangers.

The Angels were originally planning to start Jerome Williams, but that was always tentative. It's still a rather interesting switch given that Roth just pitched in relief on Monday. He's allowed two runs in five innings since being called up on April 13.

A ninth-round pick in the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft, Roth had not allowed a run in five innings at Arkansas. He'll operate as a situational left-hander in the bigs.
